Leicester as an away day?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what everyone thinks coming to Leicester as an away day would be like? Plenty of bars in town so a good away day? Or would you considers ours to be a poor away day?

Boring new stadium, expensive tickets, ground not very close to the centre. Your team will lose.

Not a lot going for it.

Decent pubs if you know where you're going and a piece of piss by rail. Wouldn't be worth going for for the stadium or the price of tickets though, especially if we'd been before. People who give other clubs grief about not bringing massive numbers to us seriously need to have a look at what it offers.

People I know who follow clubs like Man United and Chelsea always speak about Leicester in revered tones though, maybe they're just thinking about Filbert Street. Imagine if we go up the bigger clubs will sell out at our place very quickly.

Saying that, I think Man City were happy with the draw in the League Cup - and I can imagine a lot of the Prem's big clubs being glad to have us back, if anything because they haven't played us in a decade.

Sheffield Wednesday fans seemed pretty upset about the game being moved to a Friday too.

In terms of the overall day I doubt it's much different to Filbert St, in the same area so the day would be similar.

The match and trip to the ground is a different matter, I doubt it's that appealing given the stadium layout and feel of the place.

Maybe you're right on the others but the ground is pretty close to the centre?? 10 mins max. from town and the train station, can't really get much closer!

Depends what you want.

personally other than the price I love ipwsich.

Out the station 30yds a dedicated pub always fun and 500yds to the ground.

Oxford was always good (at the manor)

Depends what you want.

Agreed. In addition, the good position of Leicester in terms of geography is also an aspect to consider.

Ashamed to say this but the best pub I've ever been in is The Trafford in manc.

On a euro night it is amazing they let any away fans in that are brave enough but the lads are great.

Was in for one champs league game they got 8 oppo fans 5 lads 3 women on the stage and got them to sing there anthem.

After they got em of stage and bought them a beer.

Just don't be in there when the Irish come over the locals are fine.

All I am saying.

I don't think I'd rate leicester as an away day. Apart from our central location making it easy to travel too.

Boring stadium, over priced for who we are.

Not really any decent pubs around the ground and city centre not great either.

Plus if you where staying over I think you'd be vastly underwelmed by our bars and clubs.

Thats said what makes an away for me is being with your mates in a different place. I suppose it's cuz it's somewhere different. we had a decent time in Bournemouth and a cracking time in leicester square after qpr. Ended up in a yates or somewhere but it was packed and lively.

Tend to just make the most of what you find. Charlton for example is a pain in the arse on the train as it takes so long to get across london. But once your back in the centre!!

Don't rate blackburn as an away. But chuck in a stop over in manchester and your laughing.

Another 2 I like which I no a lot don't are ispwich and norwich.

Ball ache to get to for most. But I stay over in essex and have a 10min train to ipswich and an hour to norwich. Away pub in norwich is decent.

Ipswich is a bit quiet at night but we can head back to somewhere like colchester after.

I think it would be rated if they had been before, if there a set of decent rowdy fans, then they know they can get something going with L1 atmosphere wise

Easiest way to find out is by reading fan reviews online.

'Although freezing cold after doing two grounds it was made all the more bearable for seeing seven goals and a sending off. Leicester is up there for best atmosphere in a modern built ground for me, something I really didn't expect to be saying. Couple that with friendly locals and the ease of journey it was a great away day.'

'Atmosphere was great! Game, not so much! 1-0 to Leicester, goal scored after 2 minutes, and relatively boring afterwards. End-to-end stuff, but all efforts straight at the keeper. Leicester fans were unhappy from the 5th minute onwards, really on the teams back, when they were winning! Chicken Balti Pie, top-notch, other food expensive (as usual!), toilets weren't bad, and stewards quiet.'

'The atmosphere was electric at times but like in any ground there were moments where it fell silent. Considering we were down for the whole game, the away fans were making a fair bit of noise, the acoustics were great.'

'As soon as he arrived on the pitch the Coventry fans started singing. This was the only time Coventry fans made use of the great acoustics at the away end that day. For the rest off the match there were only a few Coventry fans who were singing, on that day it was the Leicester fans who were the more vocal out off the two sets of fans.'

It seems we may be a bit too hard on ourselves. Of the 5 reviews, great sample I know, only one felt the atmosphere was poor and they all were impressed with the stadium despite one or two having reservations about modern stadia. We also seem to be friendly including the stewards with one person commenting that they were pleased to be allowed to stand although they were told not to bang the paneling at the back which made me chuckle.

Like someone said, Millwall is seriously a great away day! I know a lot of fans that see Leicester as a good away day so I guess the KP is an attractive away day?
