Hollism Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 I just call it The KP. It sounded awful when it was first renamed but you soon forget these things
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Sorry you lost me when you used meh! I apologise three letters offended you so as to be blind to the rest of the comment. Allow me to republish it for you. I'm happy to have LEICESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB back over the Kop rather than a faded banner that makes us look stuck in the past. The ones outside the ground weren't too bad, but the ones inside looked completely naff.
NewburyFox Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Prefer the Walkers to the KP, primarily because Walkers is something associated with Leicester. Even though Walkers is still just a brand, I didn't really think of it like that because of the whole Walkers/Gary/Leicester theme. Filbert Street still better of course, and I'd love for the ground to be called Filbert Way. Unfortunately that will probably never happen.
Bayfox Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 I apologise three letters offended you so as to be blind to the rest of the comment. Allow me to republish it for you. Much better. But I can't see the banner over the kop as I'm in it. It's not about being stuck in the past. It's about having a soul, a character and respecting what went before. Something we have lost since we moved. But if you're happy being a brand. Great for you. I hear the shopping complex in Thailand is great.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 King Power or the KP Or The dream theatre
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Much better. But I can't see the banner over the kop as I'm in it. It's not about being stuck in the past. Bayfox Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Where were the pictures of our 20s, 60s and 70s legends all over Filbert Street? I must have missed them. Really don't want to get into a whole debate on the issue, Filbert St, was a proper football ground with a history we had created over a long period of time, it had character, 4 stands that all looked different, it was run down and a bit of a shit hole but it was our shit hole. This place actually now feels like home now but it's took me 10 years to start to like it, this season has been great, but as the place just looks the same as, southampton, reading, derby etc, I felt it was a nice touch, if it was walkers or the club, it was a link to our past. I feel it's a shame we don't have a 2 tier bowl so we could have our own banners (fire safety certificated of course) around the middle like at OT and Stamford Bridge. I think it just looks a bit bland now.
DB11 Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 I sort of mix and match between the two terms. I prefer KP for writing though
davieG Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Apart from having a factory here Walkers is hardly a local company anymore being part of the global PepsiCo conglomerate.
Jace Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 I agree its too bland exact same design and structure as St Marys too, I still think its a shame the Bede Island development didn't go through I think the size and design would have been perfect for us but last time I said this I was shot down for it being too big for us.
inckley fox Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 It wouldn't be right to call it Filbert Way - it doesn't feel right to want to bring back 'Filbert' into the name. Filbert Street was Filbert Street - end of. I am warming to the King Power or KP, but personally prefered the Walkers because at least it has something to do with the city's industry / heritage. Not a fan of Freeman's Wharf (too long) and Raw Dykes would get too many laughs. Personally I would just settle for 'Burnmoor' - the groud is on the end of Burnmoor and people would feel the conenction with Filbert Street. You could apply that logic to Wembley, the New Mestalla (when it's open)... Our new stadium is literally next door to our old stadium, so there's no problem acknowledging its past. In fact, that's what you suggest with 'Burnmoor', which sounds worryingly close to 'Millmoor', if we're going to be picky. Raw Dykes may get too many laughs, put people eventually managed to stitch their sides back together after the initial hilarity of Gay Meadow and Pride Park. And, if we're going to be juvenile about it, 'Raw Dykes' is quite a terrifying image anyway. Is that a bad thing? Freeman's Wharf too long?! It's got the same number of syllables as Old Trafford and is shorter than The City of Manchester Stadium; The Stadium of Light, even Saint James's Park! If I were to lump for one it would be Filbert Way, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with Freeman's Wharf. Either would be popular if the board ever chose to sacrifice a good advert in favour of boosting the club's long-term identity.

I think it just looks a bit bland now. I've often wondered whether there was something cheap, simple but standout that could be done to give the place its own identity. Yes, the name would be a start. And I think it would give the ground more of a reputation over time as well - as other grounds' names change by the week, we could establish our home. It could become a place that other fans started to talk of without saying 'what's their ground called these days?' That aside, maybe they can work on some sort of representative piece of art, a metal sculpture or something, to sit on the roof of the ground, in view of the cameras, in view of three sides of it. A scaled down, cheap version of the Wembley arch (no, don't think of Spinal Tap). The only problem is that we'd never agree on what form it should take, half the fans would prefer nothing to something (a la 'Walkers Stadium' vs 'Walkers Bowl', which was an attempt to give us at least a hint of a permanent name)... We'd end up with a humiliating eighteen foot metal phallus or something equally demeaning. It's an interesting thought, though. Could something simple and symbolic be done? And on the cheap? Anal point Is that a suggestion for a new ground name? If so, it would still be better than 'The Liberty Stadium'.
bluesbrothers Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Freeman's Wharf and nothing else.If you have a problem calling it that on the absurd basis that 3 syllables is too long, call it either "Freeman's" or "The Wharf". Simple.
Fox92 Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Not bothered, although I am a fan of simple ground names/names from a nearby road (ala Filbert Street).
FoxInTheBox89 Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Not bothered, although I am a fan of simple ground names/names from a nearby road (ala Filbert Street). Your right. I would happily pay to Watch anything in Raw Dyke Stadium haha!
FuriousFox46 Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 1. Filbert Way2. Freeman's Wharf 3. King Power / Walkers I'd love to change the name to either 1 or 2 but if the Srivdhannaprabbhas (I didn't have to check that) want to name it after their brand then I'm content with that.
Spudulike Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Freeman's Wharf and nothing else. If you have a problem calling it that on the absurd basis that 3 syllables is too long, call it either "Freeman's" or "The Wharf". Simple. Couldn't agree more It will always be Freemen's Wharf to me.
danny. Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 It's a moot point for me, it's called the King Power - therefore I call it that.
itsblueupnorth Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Still call it Filbo, think I always will.and me
