sk3since03 Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Definitely the type of player I think NP would go for if promotion was achieved! Would be a great signing and not too unrealistic
Bayfox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Watching that last night, I think James and DD would have done a better job than than the 2 in the middle for united and I rate Carrick normally. Also thought, Smalling looked the most uncomfortable right back ever, so delaet would get in that team as well.
Alfie_flowers Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 would be interesting to see danny and james play in a 4-5-1 formation just behind a new world beater of an attatcking centre mid next year if we go up ...
Buzzell Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Definitely the type of player I think NP would go for if promotion was achieved! Would be a great signing and not too unrealistic James, Drinkwater and Cleverly in a 3 man mid-field, oh the thought of that makes me do a sex wee
Callabinho Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Could you imagine a midfield three of Cleverly, James, and Drinkwater........ Like Bert I think we will go in for him.
Buzzell Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Could you imagine a midfield three of Cleverly, James, and Drinkwater........ Like Bert I think we will go in for him. It would be a realistic Pearson signing if we was to go up. You would think Man Utd will be looking to strengthen a lot of areas of their side, especially midfield, so possibly Cleverly goes down the pecking order, a loan deal would be realistic, signing him permanent would be unbelievable.
Alfie_flowers Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 would be alot of passing between the 3 but would there be a massive attatcking driving threat through the middle? reckon we would need a mata esque type of attatcking playing to compliment them better...

Moyes needs an overhaul, Cleverly will been seen surplus to requirements after this season, more due to the shit around him in my opinion! but I think we will sign him!
Alfie_flowers Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 btw htat doesnt mean us buy mata... i think we need to spend big on 1 or 2 players to stop us being dragged into a horrible relegation battle..
Sharpe's Fox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Cleverly is a tidy player but not at Champions League level. Like others I think it's realistic he will do the same as Huddlestone, Shelvey and Johnson and come to a lower level club, play week in week out and show what he can do. He is a better player than Drinkwater and some of the bias on here is pretty unbelievable, but that's not saying he could become as good in a few years.
Super_horns Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Drinkwater didn't really impress with us but then he had a shortish loan spell in a side off form. Cleverley was very good getting forwards alongside Lansbury under Mackay but as stated its a rather different level! Man U could do with 7/8 new players TBH...
GingerrrFox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Agree. If we go up I wouldn't be surprised to see us go back in for him. Too similar to Drinkwater in style for me Bert, I'd much rather we went for a real box to box midfielder. Someone with a good engine who can support the attack but also help out on the counter. A player in the Yaya Toure/Ramires/Pogba mould.

Someone with a good engine who can support the attack but also help out on the counter. A player in the Yaya Toure/Ramires/Pogba mould. I've said that for a while, only problem is you have to be extremely careful when looking for a player of that style, if you get it wrong you could end up with a liability! but I agree If we could find a player who fits that description then brilliant!

But I think Drinkwater is more of a dictator of the game whereas Cleverley seems to get forward a bit more. This is all conjecture of course and might not even happen yet.
DennisNedry Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Haven't watched him enough at Man U to know how good he is now. Drinkwater / James are better for us than Cleverly was.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Cleverley was never that good for us. Because he came from man u we look at him through rose coloured specs. In my opinIon he was a very adequate player but didn't make things happen. Drinky is far superior, dictates play, is fitter and is more a team player. NO CONTEST! It wasn't till Cleverley's Watford loan that he actually looked like a good talent.
LAprice_ Posted 26 February 2014 Author Posted 26 February 2014 I don't want to over-excite anyone BUT James, Drinkwater AND Cleverley have all played in the same starting 11 before! Late 2008, a reserve team game against Everton
LC/FC Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Cleverley is a fantastically gifted player who unfortunately will probably never be able to let that shine at Manchester Utd or even if that chance could happen it would be years away from being so. The lad is only young and he's practically been asked single handedly to repair that wretched corpse of a midfield that Sir Alex has left to die over the last 5 years, at Manchester United. One of the most scrutinised clubs ever from all walks of life and he's supposed to fix that midfield hole that's been blatantly getting bigger for at least 10 years? During the clubs most biggest upheaval and change for a quarter of a century? I think the lad obviously lacks confidence from all the pressure around him and therefore unable to play his natural uninhibited way. He really needs a Nige hug from the looks of things. A gaffer that can give him the confidence and man management he needs to bring him out of his shell. A "knocky" tunnel moment and obviously Moyes being at his first time is overwhelmed too, it appears. I do rate Cleverley but I can see him play differently to Drinkwater. I don't know if he along with DD and James played together in the UTD youth teams but I'd assume they know each others styles of play, if not actual styles, I'd assume that a midfield of all 3 playing together and in form with some Nige love would get raves everywhere. James' all round dynamism and hussle, Drinkwater's tempo and dictation play and Cleverley's flair and skill. Now I'm going to have to go cool off...
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Tom Cleverley for me is the better player. Drinkwater is playing better than last year, but has a long way to go to match Cleverley, imo.
FoxInTheBox89 Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 All we can say really is that who performed better for city. Drinkwater shits all over Cleverly there. Drinkwaters bin bossing games in arguably the most competitive leauge in the world consistently. Cleverly did olrite for a league 1 side never bossed one game. Drinks for me
hackneyfox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 'arguably the most competitive leauge in the world'?????
FoxInTheBox89 Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Yes. Any team can beat any team. Correct?
Father Ted Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Cleverley always seemed to be more of a wide man when he was with us as opposed to a centre midfielder.
