Feed The Yak!! Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 It gets worse... Promotion at the first time of asking constitutes 'an awful job' now.. Oh dear... Seriously? You think he's done well? Look at the squad at his disposal - there's no way it should've had to come down to the play offs.
Charl91 Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 It gets worse... Promotion at the first time of asking constitutes 'an awful job' now.. Oh dear... I don't care if they got promoted. Holloway did the same with Palace, fluking his way into the play-offs with dreadful football, and I think he did an awful job too (and it showed when they got to the premier league). A few lucky play-off games does not change how they have performed all season. Unless they either change manager, or drastically change how well they play, they will come straight back down. QPR had a higher wage bill than most premier teams, and someone who is supposed to be an amazing manager. They should have been not only challenging for the automatic promotion spot, but running away with it. Instead, the football they've played has been truly dreadful. Not once have they looked convincing when I've seen them, or looked like playing as a team; they're still a team of individuals, and that is the managers fault. They were utterly dominated in the final - barely came out of their own half, and were saved only by their keeper and Derby's poor finishing. Frankly, I don't care about QPR. I don't dislike them, but I don't have the raging boner that you seem to have for Harry Redknapp. But yes, given his apparent managerial prowess, the wages they have and the manner they play football/achieved promotion, he has done an "awful job" with them. I will stand by that. For a team with a higher wage bill than Athletico Madrid, finishing 4th and luckily scraping through the play-offs with dreadful football is not a good result. How you think he's done a good job is truly laughable. Though I guess you'd rather convince yourself of that than accept you were wrong about something.
Corky Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 It gets worse... Promotion at the first time of asking constitutes 'an awful job' now.. Oh dear... I'm pleased, they were worse than Derby this season, scored the second lowest amount of goals in the top half and need major restructuring during the summer.
Guest ttfn Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 QPR don't have a higher wage bill than Atletico, or at least there is no evidence to suggest that is the case this season. Obviously their spending over the last 2 years has been obscene and I have stated time and again that my personal opinion is that they have underperformed this season with the resources at their disposal. But as we should know as much as anybody else, their fans probably don't want their club run this way and those I know are as embarrassed as we are with hindsight (and many/most at the time) of the Sven era.
Carl the Llama Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 It gets worse... Promotion at the first time of asking constitutes 'an awful job' now.. Oh dear... In this particular context it's hardly a job to be proud of. The closest team I can think of to QPR in terms of having Premier League experience amongst squad members and a budget that was the envy of the league in recent Ch'ship seasons is the Newcastle side from 09/10. They still didn't have QPR's resources but went up as champions with 102 points. QPR have achieved the bare minimum of expectations this year and Harry deserves no plaudits for being the guy in charge of the half hearted stumble over the line.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 surely West Ham and they went up via play-offs too.

That's just a quick glance at the article.

theessexfox Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Saying that it's 'mission accomplished' for Redknapp this year is a massive twisting of the facts. Hope they implode next year.
Zapp Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Promotion in any way shape or form counts as success to me. Doing it ugly is better than failing. And QPR achieved their goal. Saying they should have won automatic at a canter means they would have needed 100. Ridiculous comment undermining Burnley. Accept they deserved it by getting the 4th most amount of points, then winning the playoffs. Anyone saying different is very bitter, and for no reason!! They hardly seem a threat next season.

They hardly seem a threat next season. ^ That's the point. I don't care that they get promoted (I don't have the hate for QPR that others seem to, and I actually would rather them then Derby went up). I just think the football they have played this season has been astonishingly poor, and that's without taking wages into account. If they play like that next season, they'll get relegated. Promotion is always the aim, but it needs to be put in context somewhat. It's fine margins in football, and Harry was hugely lucky to have it gone his way on the day. Anyone who thinks he has done a stellar job this season really needs to drink a little less.
Charl91 Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 surely West Ham and they went up via play-offs too. However, at least they finished 3rd, and were only 2 points off the automatic places (not 13). And I still wouldn't have said they did a "great job".

Guest Col city fan Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 The reason why I bumped the thread is to highlight two things: 1. The apparent hostility that some of us seem to have for clubs that aren't even considered our rivals. 2. How quickly (and eagerly) some will jump to say that someone and something has 'failed' before they/it actually have. I got my fingers burnt for doing the same thing with Pearson after our terrible run. And look how that turned out... I bet you this. That the QPR fans are waking up this morning, after yesterday not even contemplating the way they've gotten promotion.. just the fact that they have. And Arry will go down in their history for having done so. The end..

theessexfox Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 They're similar to us under Sven, and in hindsight I can say that as a neutral, I would have despised us under Sven. They're doing things the wrong way - huge contracts for Prem rejects who don't care for the club. Any club with Redknapp and Barton are automatically despicable.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 not really similar to Sven because they succeeded.
ScouseFox Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 loving that col is much more blinkered and positive about qpr's chances under harry than 99% of qpr fans. they all want rid because they know they got lucky and they know only a massive fraud of a manager could've led that squad and resources to 4th in the 2nd division. and they know they'll finish bottom next season unless arry hires someone to do the coaching for him or just leaves altogether.

Its that easy. You have no idea how they might do next season, whether Redknapp will stay/go etc etc. You're already doing it and they only got promoted yesterday! Hows about.. wait and see?
MPH Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Harry will no doubt want to spend bug to stay in the prem, and if they fail for some reason then that's them finished.
