Because at a public event I think it's inappropriate and it's deliberately offensive. The D word being the most important. A few West Ham in the pub doing it I don't really have a problem with, a wider audience it's more dubious. In the same way I don't have a problem with a racist joke between friends, but I wouldn't throw one in at a wedding reception for example.

I'd say it's playful. As far as football goes anyway. Certainly not deadly serious. If these people really hated ethnic/sexual minorities I'm sure there would be a lot more to be worried about than a couple of predictable chants.
