You sound an absolute hoot.

Whereas you are an absolute ****.

BANTAAAAAA!!!

You see. Rather than debate issues we can resort to distracting from the issue through ad hominem points instead.

Why out of interest do you personally not condone those chants? (I think you're right but I'm interested in your reasoning).

Because at a public event I think it's inappropriate and it's deliberately offensive. The D word being the most important.

A few West Ham in the pub doing it I don't really have a problem with, a wider audience it's more dubious.

In the same way I don't have a problem with a racist joke between friends, but I wouldn't throw one in at a wedding reception for example.

Banter is some bollocks term for being ****ing rude to your mate which has been adopted by the spotty soccer am crowd. It's never been called banter, it was piss taking or flat out insulting someone (which is fine amongst your mates, provided they can take it). Now it's become a series of stock phrases designed to offend only you can't find them offensive because they are just 'banter'

No banter is light hearted stick among people. Just because some cvnts use it when they're actually being cvnts doesn't mean that's what the word means. Don't invent your own definitions, that's not going to win you any arguments.

Look it up if you don't believe me.

So why are the offensive jokes at the (I assume very public) comedy shows you were talking about okay?

Of course.

If you buy a ticket for Reginald Hunter you should know what you are going to get, it says so on the poster, ticket etc "if easily offended, fcuk off"

I have looked it up.

'The playful and friendly exchange of teasing remarks'

There is nothing friendly about deliberately offensive chants aimed at a large group of complete strangers.

I'd rather go with this definition

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/tomchiversscience/100141906/if-you-like-banter-you-are-an-idiot/

"Banter is not humour; banter is what people have when they lack a sense of humour. Banter is a catch-all word for idiocy that warns the rest of us that Here Be Lads. Banter is Soccer AM. It is Andy Gray. It is middle-aged men on Top Gear pretending that they are edgy outsiders by mocking society's weakest, then going home to Chipping Norton where they live two doors down from the Prime Minister. It is an English stag do in Dublin or Amsterdam with matching T-shirts. It is cruelty unleavened by wit but which is excused because it is a bit like wit, if you look at it from a certain angle. It what is left when humour has died, and just the rotting, stinking carcass remains, bearing a resemblance to the living being but lacking all that made it good. Banter is the Dunning-Kruger effect writ large. If you like banter, you are an idiot."

I'd say "we can see you holding hands" fits that description posted absolutely perfectly.

So you agree Mike is wrong then?

I'd say it's playful. As far as football goes anyway. Certainly not deadly serious.

If these people really hated ethnic/sexual minorities I'm sure there would be a lot more to be worried about than a couple of predictable chants.

Even though a large number of Brighton fans have repeatedly complained about it?

They obviously don't think it's very friendly. So it's not really banter.

Then you're an idiot, because that is not a definition, that is something some cvnt has written.

Don't waste my time.

Let's get this sorted once and for all...........I've made a call, to the man to sort this debate, I'm sure he'll devise a test to label the protagonists from this thread

Much like a lot of our white fans have complained about supposed life threatening racism.

So if a few football fans complain about a chant it should stop?

Not having that, even more so in an age where it's fashionable and encouraged to be offended.

Anyone who seriously complained about that is a right ponce.

I must say for a man who advocates banter you seem to take offence rather easily. I assume you're being ironic.

Don't hide those chants behind the term 'banter' is what I'm saying, because it quite clearly isn't just 'banter'. The Brighton fans have complained about it, so you can't defend it by saying it's banter.

It's you abusing a group of people. If you're comfortable doing that, then fine, it makes you a bit of a dick but I guess you're free to be a dick if you want to be. But don't try to dress it up as something it's not. Same goes for you Kitch.

England fans are world champions for banter.

Twelve German bombers

Two world wars one World Cup

No surrender to the IRA

Etc etc

As I have been reading this thread, I have been trying to think of something funny to lighten the tone.

Obviously I don't want to offend the fatties, the Israelis, the homosexuals, the Indians, the Pakistanis, the ignorant, the unemployed, the rich, the poor, the homeless, the hungry, or indeed anyone who has took the time to read this pointless post.

Two slugs slithering up a garden path, when a snail comes out the grass and on to the slab in front of them, one slug tuts and says to his mate " I ****ing hate caravans"

if 75% of this forum complained about your name (mark_w) and said they found it offensive

would you a) tell them to grow up & ignore them because you don't think there is anything wrong with it

             or b) change it

My username isn't banter and I've never claimed it is.
