LanguedocFox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Why do we have to discuss this every other month? This topic has been done to death. Come on, Bilbo: we're City fans - we do every topic to death. Pearson Out! what about a furry brown/orange kit to make us look like foxes? Sorted. I'm in!
Captain... Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 It’s not just shirt colour though. Blue is the colour of the club. It’s part of the club. But OK, to answer your question I’d probably prefer to play in red than be where Portsmouth are. The trouble though, is that it won’t stop there. It’s easy to chip away at a club’s identity – and each time the fans are forced to say “well it’s only a colourâ€. “Well it’s only the name of the Stadiumâ€. “Well it’s only a bit of gold they want to add to the coloursâ€. It’s only a little thing. “Well it’s only a nameâ€. Chip chip chip. You let them change the colour and then 3 years later it’s the Fox on the badge changing for a dragon and we say “well it’s only a badgeâ€â€¦ In twenty years’ time you’ll be watching the “King Power Red Dragons†with a big foam finger on your hand, shouting “Gooooo Dragonsâ€. I really feel for the Cardiff and Hull fans and the crap that they are having to go through. The reason that English football is such an attractive commodity to foreign investors is because of the heritage and history of all the English clubs. If you let anyone come in and start changing anything they want to, then soon the heritage disappears, and with it the investment will go too. Once it’s happened to Hull, what is there to stop the rest of the foreign owners changing their clubs’ names to better suit their foreign markets? What does the City of Cardiff mean to Malaysians? Wouldn’t the “Malaysian Reds†be more marketable that “Cardiff Cityâ€? Chip chip chip. What does “Leicester†mean in Thailand? Surely “King Power Foxes†would increase our revenues – make us more successful. So why not? Let me ask you a question: Would you let them change the name of the club if it meant European football? Would you let them move us to a different population base? If not, then why let them change the colour? I want success for my club – but not at any price. If they moved outside the city/county or took Leicester out of the name, then that would be it for me, we can play in red, green or mauve for all I care, and be called, Leicester Fosse, City, Foxes, United. But it is because the club represents my home city, whatever the colour or name, as long as those wearing the clan tartan with the Peacock on the crest still make me proud they represent my city I will support them. It is not for success or fashion or identity I support The Roaring Leicester Lions, it is because I just bloody have to.
Voll Blau Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 It wouldn't be the same club me and generations of my family before me supported if we didn't play in blue. You'd not see me for dust.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I knew we had fickle fans but this just shocks me the amount of supporters that would stop because of the colour. I'd be disappointed but I couldn't just suddenly stop. I think you need to ask yourself if this is the right club for you? Why not just bugger off now and go and support a club that possibly won't change colours. On a side note, i was 100% against us sharing with those bastards at Welford Road. Green seats and carpets...fvck off. I don't think we would change colours though to be fair.
Fox Ulike Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 what about a furry brown/orange kit to make us look like foxes? This would be a grevious insult to our proud history. Unless it came with the following mask: In which case I'm in...

There's people on here (and on threads like this before) who say they wouldn't mind changing colours if it meant success/a better financial footing etc and you're accusing US of being the fickle ones? Hope the irony isn't lost on you there...

I would prefer to see a blue LCFC making me proud in League One, than I would to see the "KP Leicester Flying Dragons" winning the Champions League. After all, let's not forget that the money the Thais have brought in is a passing phase in the grand scheme of things. We're a small/medium Midlands middling club, and we will return to this status once the Thais have fiddled with us and left us shivering by the side of the Road. Either way, I'll be following the Foxes/Dragons/whatever. It just won't be as much FUN! UP THE PEACOCKS!
fuchsntf Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Just because people respect the tradition and identity of the club doesn't mean they are more attached to the colour of the shirt, Finners. Lots of people support Leicester even though they have no affinity to the City itself. People from Syston, Loughborough, Melton and further afield - why do they identify with the Club? Can't just be because they all love the clock tower or lost their virginity in Highfields. I lost mine one cold night in abbey park, to a girl from loughborough, just finished game playing for syston, eating a picnic of melton pork pies and a pint of marsdens, ....if found please return to following address........#$÷=%_€ , 17 @#$/% road,New parks.Leicester.Silly .....not my virginity, but my........................Blue +White city shirt
Chilwell_Fox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Forgive me, I was born in 1985 and remember reading in a book that Leicester played in white in the Early 70s for one season.

That's absurd and these are probably the people who would sell their grannies for success.

Shovel is leaning up against the shed.
-blue- Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Someone made the point earlier that if you lose your heritage you're just like MK Dons, chane in the name of progression is good, drastic change of a clubs identification purely for marketing/financial gain must necer be tolerated. I'd never go again.
80footgiraffe Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 If it ultimately benefited the club then fine. I'd still go, because it's my club, my city and my right.
80footgiraffe Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I've been going for 50+ years and we've played in a variety of colours and combinations with different badges. I can't say I've ever taken that much notice in our colours for me it's all about the players not what they are wearing. I was much more offended by the introduction of shirt advertising than I ever could be about the colours. That's not to say I'd be happy for them to change but it wouldn't stop me going. The nearest I've come to that was during Mandaric's ownership. This
Culletonfox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 You can think what you want but you misjudge people terribly. Not everyone is that weak and pathetic. I'm put off if the atmosphere is shit, I can certainly be put off if some team in red/green/pink were playing in our place and using our name. Still your club is it not? It's the people that make a club not the outfit....
Guesty Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I think it would be the straw that broke the camel's back. I'd still follow, but I doubt I'd give any money. That being said, I wouldn't begrudge anyone for carrying on. But, I bet there were a lot of Cardiff fans saying, 'I'd support my club no matter what', etc when Tan did it to Cardiff and they were riding high - I doubt as many will still be singing from the same hymn sheet if they get relegated. And if you let an owner like that (who cares nothing for the fanbase) get his way when all he cares about is profit, what else will he change? Plus, if it all goes wrong will he really care about upping sticks and leaving Cardiff in the shit? I doubt it! A large part though does depend on the owner. I'm answering this question from the viewpoint of having Tan as an owner.
sylofox Posted 7 March 2014 Author Posted 7 March 2014 Forgive me, I was born in 1985 and remember reading in a book that Leicester played in white in the Early 70s for one season. Yes we did white and blue but still our colours to a point. My point is we change to shite n white or sky blue. Anything in our infant years but not r&w or sky blue.
Soup Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Image going back to the 70's and saying what would you do if 99% of the ground sat in silence.
iamafox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I'd still go. But I wouldn't see a logical reason behind changing our colours at all. I would understand people getting pissed off about it (if it were to happen but I'm sure it won't) because Leicester have been playing in blue for donkeys years and it represents the image of our club. But at the end of the day, they still need our support for every match and that is just as important as the colour of our home kit.
bluebeau Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 These foreign owners are really only here to make money on their investment. A large part of a succesful clubs revenue comes from sales of replica kits etc. If sales of this merchandise flopped due to changing the clubs colours, this would surely make the owners realise what a gigantic bollock they had dropped? Fortunately our owners are not as stupid as the asshole that owns Cardiff. Take a look around the supporters when Cardiff are playing at home, can you spot a red shirt being worn by them? IMO these supporters will never switch to red, Cardiff are The Bluebirds not the Red Robins/Dragons! I guess the players at whatever club you name, don't give a toss what colour shirt they wear, but the supporters do. Ask yourself, would you buy a shirt from the club shop if we switched from blue to red, yellow, green etc? Personally I could accept a gold trim being added to our blue, in fact I think it would look pretty good, even our badge in gold I would accept as long as blue was our predominant colour. IMO we have good owners who actually do care about the football club & its supporters.
fuchsntf Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Yes I know it was a long time ago, but Liverpool did play in blue. And what did Leeds fans do when one of their greatest managers decided to change to white? It's not a new thing to change kit colour, and although I wouldn't like to see us play in any other colour it wouldn't prevent me supporting my football club. It's so easy to say "yeah I'd stop going", but when if it came to it people would still turn up. Liverpool played in blue 1892-1896 in their first seasons. Leeds changed their colours several times as leeds city, but thenThey were expelled in 1919. Since 1920 Leeds utd their colours have been blue and white.dabbling with quarter/half yellow parts, but always with blue and white.Even in their White days and coming upto date, they have been white with blue and yellow flashes somewhere in their full kit.Their official kit 1961-1971 was all white, but even then on socks or tail ends on the Shirts they played many games with a flash of yellow or blue, or both. Actually since the 1920s even many since 1900s all top league teams have kept their basic colours in one form or another. Cardiff are as far as I can recollect, the only top league team that have changed the major colour of their club. Leicester in the 70s did play in white but again somewhere with a blue flash. Think of your best outfield player playing his best games or moves, you remember them in blue n White. Mine is K.Weller, Davie Gibson, G.Cross. I have never wanted to bite off the arms that feed us, without a chairman or owner spending his or their dosh, there simply is no club....That said Tan and the Hull bosses were wrong, not to have or open a fan discussion. If our owners had any thoughts in this direction, I would expect some decorum and form, that they would at least ask the Fans on their thoughts, ........bcos without the fans theres no club, what you can spend your dosh on. But I am an old codger, who gets down to the ground 2-3 times a year, I would leave it to the younger fans who are regulars who would have a modern take on needs and changes.
LCCFox96 Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I could never turn my back on the team. Too big a part of my child hood and social life etc. I know people won't agree but that's their choice. Hopefully the below is something we can all agree on; Here's to Vichai and Top for being great foreign owners and living up to our confidence/ trust in them. Can't see them ever putting us in that position. Unlike Vincent Tan they have respect for English football culture - essential for everyone aspiring to work in football, from the billionaire owners to the kit lady. I don't even care if that sounded like marketed crap from the club...it's true regardless.

HitchinFox Posted 8 March 2014 Posted 8 March 2014 Come on people, just all vote to "leave and never return" - the Thai's will see the result and won't dare change anything. Simples.
