indierich06 Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 So when Don Revie changed Leeds' kit to all white and Bill Shankly changed Liverpool's kit to all red, those fans should have abandoned the clubs and never returned? Just playing Devil's Advocate here, I wouldn't want us to change colours - but it's happened before and it'll happen again in the future.
Corky Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 If we changed to a colour we've had previously (maybe an away shirt, the 2003/04 and 2009/10 away: black with light blue sash looks nice) then I'd cope, as it has some connection to the club (I believe Fosse had it, though I could be corrected). No chance with red, pink etc, it has no real connection to the club.
sylofox Posted 6 March 2014 Author Posted 6 March 2014 If they did what Cardiff did and changed to red to appeal to the Asian market, I would be livid and protest and not go to the 5 or 6 games a year I do. They probably wouldn't notice, I would still follow the club though and hope sense won through. If they did it for any sensible reason, not motivated by greed, then I would probably be cool with it. For example if we changed from royal blue to a lighter more visible blue because it has been scientifically proven to be easier to spot the other players. Or if they took a colour for a season for a charity, or as a tribute to the fosse, then no problem. Or a season in white as we did in the 70's. The charity think for a year is fine I could accept that. my point was a total change (forever a red) No fvcking way.
Captain... Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 What about if we didn't have an associated colour and changed it every year? Imagine how exciting the new kit release would be then...

Not talking if we dropped the white (had it as a flash) We will get variations not a problem. I'm talking Blue to red or green.
MooseBreath Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 On a scale of things the club could do that would annoy me, changing the colour of the shirts is below goal music and pre-match music and the corporitasation of the matchday experience. It is miles below changing the name of the club. Wearing blue shirts is hardly something unique that identifies us as leicester city, our kit is basically the same as dozens of other clubs. Whereas the name, that is unique and to me a thousand times more important. In summary, I'd be annoyed but nowhere near enough to stop supporting the club
Carl the Llama Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 If we lost our colours I'd check behind the sofa.
Webbo Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 I don't like it when we wear blue shorts but it wouldn't effect my support.
fuchsntf Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I would emmigrate and support Dortmund......oh sh#t I already have!!!!! And do..tho city is my first love. No I know, I would sell my colour Tv and buy a BW one. Then I would have to sell my city subuteo collection.
sylofox Posted 7 March 2014 Author Posted 7 March 2014 If we lost our colours I'd check behind the sofa. No I really can't put what I intended to
Grewks Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Anyone who would go regardless is a disgrace. There, I said it. Why? I get all the arguments from Cardiff, especially with them being called 'Bluebirds' etc. But our nickname is the foxes, and to me it wouldn't have a huge impact. Of course i would rather it stay blue, but i would rather be a fan of a successful club than a fan of a club which 'must wear blue shirts'.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 no chance would i feel the same about lcfc, kit and badge what you identify with
mozartfox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Working in Malaysia as I do, no one gives a toss about Cardiff or what colours' they play in for that matter. Big waste a time by a mis-informed Owner. Personally, would not object to having blue sox topped with the coloured banding of the Thai flag, but that is as far as it goes!
ozleicester Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I must say it surprises me the level of absoluteness about the colours. For me, Leicester City is my team from my town, They can change grounds (Fosse Rd, Vicky Park, Mill Lane, Filbert St) They can change owners (too many to mention) They can change managers (FAR too many to mention) They can change badges (Fox n crop, running fox etc) They can change colours (Black, Brown and Blue, White, Blue) As long as they are Leicester City (and even Leicester Fosse which we should've gone back to when the opportunity arose), ill support them. edit , for those who would walk away, would you just choose another team to support, that play in blue?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 It'd be the straw that broke the camels back and the perfect excuse I'd need to stop going and save a fortune.
dayday Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Anyone who would go regardless is a disgrace. There, I said it. This.
LanguedocFox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I've watched City play in some bloody awful away colours over the years (remember that green strip?) so what we play in is probably not the issue. I think that if we changed from blue-and-white to completely different colours, it would be a manifestation of something bigger, and the chances are that that would change my attitude to the club. What's happening at Cardiff and Hull seem, from an outsider's perspective, to be more than just changing the colours or the name - it looks like the clubs themselves are changing. If the essence of the club changed, although I would continue to support City and go when I could, I suspect that my affection would start to die over time. Difficult to say, but there's something intangible about the club as it is - heritage, shared memories, hopes, aspirations and all that stuff - and it's that which keeps me as a supporter. I just hope that the owners continue to show the good sense that they have demonstrated so far (well, apart from appointing Sven).
broughtonblue Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I'd still turn up at the ground in my blue shirt but not go in, take a radio and a few beers and sit in the area outside the shop and listen to stringer, with hopefully a few hundred like minded folk. Could create quite an atmosphere! And still follow your normal pre/post match routine
Guest Papasmurf Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I would be annoyed but, at the end of the day, it doesn't really change anything.
TrentFox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Half the people who have voted are saying that they will only stay behind this team that represents our city, our corner of the country....... if they wear blue shirts? I'm lost for words.

Could create quite an atmosphere! And still follow your normal pre/post match routine I find that slightly worrying, if you don't mind me saying so, and I think you would be alone. Matter of interest (genuinely) are Cardiff fans not allowed to wear their blue shirts in their ground?
wattolcfc Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I think there is a major difference between us and Cardiff and that is the fact one of, if not our major rivals colour is red. This, I think would be enough to put off the owners as there would be a bigger backlash. Red may be a "lucky" colour in the Far East but we all know luck is just psychological and is not real. Answering the question though, if we were to go red I would still support Leicester but wouldn't watch us live again until we returned to blue and maybe follow a local side and England a bit more.
davieG Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I've been going for 50+ years and we've played in a variety of colours and combinations with different badges. I can't say I've ever taken that much notice in our colours for me it's all about the players not what they are wearing. I was much more offended by the introduction of shirt advertising than I ever could be about the colours. That's not to say I'd be happy for them to change but it wouldn't stop me going. The nearest I've come to that was during Mandaric's ownership.
Fox92 Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Of course it wouldn't stop me going. It's still Leicester City Football Club, with all our history, regardless of colour. We've had a variety of badges in our history, and as Davie said as a much older poster he's seen us in different colours. Cardiff weren't the first to change their kit colour, they won't be the last.
Renart Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I think that it is a really interesting debate. I really wouldn't like it but would I stop supporting the team - no - of course not. How such things are judged by history is where it becomes interesting. I think that the person who brought up the LCFC name change from Fosse is getting it right - as is the poster who highlights the kit change of Leeds Utd. All change, especially if emotionally charged by nostalgia, is going to be difficult to take but nostalgia, comfort and expectation can be re-established in different circumstances. They are about association after all. You could imagine a set of circumstances 50 years from now where a grandfather is flicking through an Official History of Leicester Foxes Football Club and pointing out to the grandson that once-upon-a-time the team played in blue with the child being indignant and suspicious and unable to comprehend that his beloved team could play in any other colour than Green and White. A change in name, a move to a new stadium or a change in kit colour simply becomes a chapter heading in a much bigger story of the club. Difficult to deal with at the time but in the scheme of things... Having said that, keep them in blue please.
