Babylon Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Just like Nile Ranger, Can't wait to see him win the World Cup for England this summer.... Ahhh the "new Ronaldinho" as sky dubbed him when they played us and he was... well average.
shade Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 He seems to be that sort of player who can't seem to do any wrong in the eyes of the footballing fraternity. A bit like errrm Stevie Gerard. You could well be right. If Derby don't go up though, he will need to be looking to move to further his career. are you implying gerrard isn't extremely good ?
Guest Col city fan Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 are you implying gerrard isn't extremely good ?No of course not. Just that he can't seem to do any wrong. For me, Gerrard has rarely really shone, for example, in an England shirt, yet has been pretty much ever-present under successive managers. And he has had bad periods in his career, playing in a struggling Liverpool side for many years. I like Gerrard.. my point was that some players, over the years, seem to br massively in favour, even when their form dips. Perhaps its a personality thing? Gerrard always comes across as a consummate professional (apart from the odd extremely reckless challenge). Maybe Will Hughes is the same.. just liked per se.
Leicester Lass Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 @WhoScored Daniel Drinkwater: Made more passes in the final third (38) vs Blackpool than any other player has in a Championship match this season #LCFC
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 It’s probably fair to say that without Ings, Burnley would not be in the position that they are in Not sure I agree. Vokes has scored plenty. Marney is close to how good Drinkwater is. Trippier is the best RB in the division, and with the most goal assists I think. Shackell is the best CB in the division in my opinion. Add in the likes of consistent performers like Jones, Kightly, Mee etc and you'll realise that Burnley has been just the same team effort as us.

I think we have a bit more quality in every area, as indicated by our gap in points. But it's not a large difference in quality in truth.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 These awards are a bit shitty really with about a quarter of the season still to go. I just hope we win the main awards at the end of the season like . . Promotion and the title hopefully
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Agree. I think we have a bit more quality in every area, as indicated by our gap in points. But it's not a large difference in quality in truth. Goalkeepers are of similar quality, I think we have a slightly better defence and midfield but not much to choose between the strike partnerships, possibly Ings / Vokes better than Nugent / Vardy. As you said, not a lot between us. What Burnley have done on relatively limited resources is outstanding this season. Dyche did a good job at Watford - getting a higher finish in his one season than Malky Mackay managed in 2 or 3 seasons - and he's proving his worth this year too. Quality, grounded bloke too - and he loves Kasabian and especially The Smiths. What's not to like?

Quality, grounded bloke too - and he loves Kasabian and especially The Smiths. What's not to like? Hmmmm. Well admittedly I don't know too much about Burnley players. But given that their Goalkeeper Tom Heaton was playing for Bristol City last season I'm surprised to hear that he's now of 'similar quality' to Kasper Schiemcal. That must make Tom Heaton the free transfer signing of the season! My point about Ings was that if you took him out of the Burnley side how are you going to make good those 25 goals he's got? Can't agree that Burnley would still be in second with their reserve striker and Vokes playing up front all season.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Just to clarify, Schmeichel is a better quality of keeper than Heaton for me but in terms of this season, I think they've been on a par. If you took Ings out, they might have had a player who scored even more. One of those things we'll never know. What I do know is that Burnley are a very good side and having a fantastic season. They're definitely not a one man team.

davieG Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 David NugentImage by: Plumb Images Three of Leicester City’s star performers have been recognised in the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year Top 10 list, released by the Football League on Wednesday. Each Championship manager was asked to list their top five players from the 2013/14 campaign in order, with the overall winner – Danny Ings of Burnley – being announced at the Football League Awards earlier this month. City and second placed Burnley were the only teams to each have three players in the top 10 list, which underlines just how impressive each side has been this term ahead of their meeting at Turf Moor on Saturday. For the Foxes, Danny Drinkwater placed third, followed by top scorer David Nugent in fifth with in-form Jamie Vardy a further two places behind in seventh. The trio have scored 42 times between them in all competitions this season and along with their team-mates, have played a vital role in the team's march to the top-of-the-league. The Top 10 most voted for players in the Sky Bet Championship are as follows: 1. Danny Ings (Burnley) Ings' goals have rocketed Burnley into the Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion places, alongside his prolific partnership with Sam Vokes. Three England Under-21 caps and two goals has highlighted his ability at international level. 2. Ross McCormack (Leeds United) McCormack's form has been one of the bright sparks for Leeds United this season. The Scotsman won the Player of the Month award for November after scoring seven goals, all without another Leeds player netting, including four against Charlton Athletic. 3. Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City) Following McCormack, Drinkwater was the next Championship Player of the Month, in December, after several notable performances. His energy and strength in midfield, plus seven goals, has played a large part City’s success so far this season. 4. Andy Reid (Nottingham Forest) In his second spell at Forest, Reid's five goals in the first 10 matches of the season underlined the team's promotion credentials as he was nominated for August's Player of the Month award. 5. David Nugent (Leicester City) Nugent's two Play-Off Semi-Final goals against Watford weren't enough to help Leicester win promotion last season, but he's returned in fine form with goals and assists as he heads up the Foxes' attacking threat. 6. Sam Vokes (Burnley) He has been overshadowed by team-mate Ings, but without Vokes' threat the Clarets wouldn't be as high as they are. Continuing to represent Wales, it's undoubtedly been the former Wolves' striker's best year. 7. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) Vardy admitted he initially struggled with the step-up from non-league football with Fleetwood Town but, after a move to the Foxes, Vardy has flourished as he causes havoc amongst Championship defences week-in, week-out. 8. Kieran Trippier (Burnley) The full-back is not only a solid defender but also has the energy to support Burnley's attacking moves. With the ability to whip in dangerous crosses, Trippier is a forceful weapon. 9. Aaron Cresswell (Ipswich Town) Left-back Creswell has been part of a miserly defence under Mick McCarthy but has also contributed at the other end with a couple of goals. 10. Will Hughes (Derby County) The Football League's Young Player of the Year was also in the Top 10 for the overall Sky Bet Championship Player award. Playing as an attacking midfielder with mature, composed performances, it's hard to believe Hughes is still only 18. Have to say that I'm flabbergasted that Will Hughes has made that list, looks bang average at best every time I see him. Surprised at the absence of Lloyd as well, he may not have a started for a month but from the beginning of the season he was terrorising defences week in, week out for fun. Well in Nuge as well, comes under a lot of criticism from our fans but clearly he must be doing something right.
shade Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 two things I noticed from this video: 1. drinkwater has let himself go close up. 2. he sounds quite angry. http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=xmWXVHBo84A
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 Surprised at the absence of Lloyd One of the best 10 players in the division this season? You drunk? Having his best season for us but wouldn't even come close to even making the bench in my Championship XI plus subs. Bryson, Shackell and Marney unlucky not to be included though, all having amazing seasons.

Bryson, Shackell and Marney unlucky not to be included though, all having amazing seasons. If it was the "half season team of the year" then Lloyd would have cruised in at LW. As it is he's been poor over the late winter and has barely played recently. Can't argue with Nugent, Vardy and Drinkwater being in there. Although I suspect many on here wouldn't have Nuge in there at all...

cjslcfc Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 He wouldn't be in my best 10 Championship players of the year. I suppose opinions are opinions. Thinking about it though I don't think he's been consistent enough to get on the top 10. I'm sure most people would disagree with the exact 10 that have been chosen by managers, anyway. I'm intrigued as to who you would have picked?

Absolutely unthinkable a year ago that Drinkwater and Vardy would have made the top 100, let alone the top 10. Astonishing turnaround from the pair of them. In fact our entrants in the top 10 last year were Chris Wood (#6) and Anthony Knockaert (#8).
Dan Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 3, 5 and 7. Great effort. Will Hughes isn't even Derby's best midfielder. The over-hyping of him is an embarrassment.
lgfualol Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 Even if Will Hughes hadnt even played a game this season, or played one but was sent off and murdered a referee, he'd still make these top 10 lists.
ScouseFox Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 no way is there 6 players better than jamie vardy.
Corky Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 3, 5 and 7. Great effort. Will Hughes isn't even Derby's best midfielder. The over-hyping of him is an embarrassment. I know, surely Bryson would be ahead of him?
Dan Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 I know, surely Bryson would be ahead of him? Bryson isnt a young English midfielder who got linked with Barcelona though. How dare you be so ridiculous as to claim it's down to who's had a better season rather than who's the bigger name.
