TrentFox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 To be fair, Hughes has been good in the team that has reached the dizzy heights of the play-off zone. I think it's important to recognise that over and above the achievements of a stand-out player in the runaway, table-topping team.
The Doctor Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Ings - has been very good, can't begrudge him it, although as an allround performer anyone who didn't say Drinkwater is wrong. Will Hughes - Bang-average player, one press rumour and being an English midfielder who can pass a ball further than he can trap it has won him this, not performances
Bayfox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Hughes is an albino twat in a shit side with no wins against the top 6. Did feck all against us. But he has a left foot and has been hyped by the media. dear oh dear.
Mark_w Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I'm sure Will Hughes must be fairly good, but he was bang average in all three of our games with Derby this year. Hughes is an albino twat in a shit side with no wins against the top 6. They beat QPR.
Bayfox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I'm sure Will Hughes must be fairly good, but he was bang average in all three of our games with Derby this year. They beat QPR. Dam forgot about that. Do qpr count?
Bert Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Congrats to both recipients. One probably deserved one not so. Ings has had a fantastic season. Of course we are biased and will say Danny is the best and should have won. That's all natural. What I can't understand is the Hughes award. 4 goals and 4 assists. I can't believe how massively hyped up he is. I've never seen him have a good game. In one sense it keeps the limelight off of our lads which is never a bad thing.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Some of you guys need to take off your blue-tinted specs occasionally. Hughes hasn't performed against us but I've seen a fair bit of him and he's been terrific more often than not. Hughes has been much more important to Derby than Liam Moore has been to us this season so perhaps that played a part in the vote. I'm a massive fan of what Drinkwater has done this season (on the pitch, at least) but I can't argue with Danny Ings winning it, he's been sensational, as has McCormack. Any of the three would've been a worthy winner.
Libertine Dream Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Anybody know who got the fat bastard award? I had A tenner on Andy Reid. GTF edged it in the end

He plays the football, the media hype him.

But he has a left foot and has been hyped by the media. dear oh dear. Pretty much it, at best Hughes is a flat-track bully. He disappears against the top sides, so how can he be the best young player across the three divisions?
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I'd have been disappointed if Hughes had beaten Drinkwater to an award but he's been slightly better than Moore this season IMHO. Opinions etc.
Mark_from_USA Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Ings is arguably more valuable to his side that Drinkwater is to Leicester. Personally I think midfielders should be given more recognition, and Drinky is the best midfielder in the division, however Ings has personally meant more points to his side. As for Liam his future in the PL is bright. He will hopefully have the chance to do much more, even perhaps get some caps. But this year he has had an injury and during the time of these votes he has lost his place to Was. So his résumé this season isn't what it could be. That's probably part of it at least.
C-man Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 What I can't understand is the Hughes award. 4 goals and 4 assists. I can't believe how massively hyped up he is. I've never seen him have a good game. I would have thought Drinkwater only having two assists would be enough to dissuade people from judging players solely on their stats? Hughes must be doing something right more often than not as he plays every week and Derby have had a surprisingly good season. Moore has missed at least a third of the year through injury and Wasyl's form to really warrant the award (as well as he's played!)
Babylon Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Was watching online last night... although I turned off after about a minute when they said the voting took place in January.
MC Prussian Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Was watching online last night... although I turned off after about a minute when they said the voting took place in January. I don't get it - why can't they wait until the season's actually finished?
Mickey O'Neil Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Fair play to Ings and Burnley, they definitely deserve some recognition this year. Saying that, it p!sses me off that it's always about the strikers. Off topic but one of my biggest hates is when a penalty is saved and it's always reported as a miss. The keeper never or very very rarely gets the recognition for saving it. Moan over.
Babylon Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I don't get it - why can't they wait until the season's actually finished? Because everyone in football will be on Holiday probably!! Is it based on calendar year, or just the season... I think someone said Deeney's goal was up for best goal so it must be calendar year, yet they only vote for players based on this seasons performances seemingly. They may as well not bother.
Xen Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 The awards are 'of the year' rather than 'of the season'. So I assume the reason voting was done in January was because the year had just finished (which is stupid, but whatever). That's why Deeney's goal against us in the play-offs was in the shortlist for 'goal of the year'.
cityfanlee23 Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 It's easy for our fans to say drinkwater.. When we only see the other players a few times a year....
Guest Col city fan Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I agree with everyone who says it should happen later in the season. A couple of weeks or so before the season ends would be about right IMO. It's easy for our fans to say drinkwater.. When we only see the other players a few times a year.... I can only think that some must see sonething in Will Hughes that we don't?

Fox Ulike Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Point about this for me though is that LCFC’s success has been a thorough TEAM effort… It’s probably fair to say that without Ings, Burnley would not be in the position that they are in – but if we didn’t have Drinkwater, I think we’d still be top of the League due to our strength in depth: James and King would probably be more-or-less equally as effective as James and Drinkwater. So fair play to Danny Ings – his goals have carried Burnley to promotion so he probably deservers it. But we are top, they are not… So let him have his tin pot. Same with Hughes. He’s a great young player, but Derby seem to be pretty much a one man team. LCFC could have hosted their own young player of the year competition with Moore, Shlupp and Knockaert as nominees. Liam Moore will soon be able to shove his Championship WINNERS’ medal in Will Hughes’ ghostly face.

Can't all be wrong He seems to be that sort of player who can't seem to do any wrong in the eyes of the footballing fraternity. A bit like errrm Stevie Gerard. You could well be right. If Derby don't go up though, he will need to be looking to move to further his career.
