If he had genuine quality players around him he could cause mayhem for a top side when the opposition have several skilfull players to contend with. I just think we'll be in a tough bargaining position and when the fateful day comes, he may be so unhappy by that point that we'll have to 'offload' him for well less than his market worth to avoid the club/unhappy player stand off that has reared it's ugly head with plenty of other players like Payet and Berahino to name but two. I sincerely hope a similar situation doesn't arise with Riyad and it will be a sad day for all City fans when he leaves whether we get 25m or 80m for him. That said, he will leave us all with wonderful memories when he does go. I maybe Algerian but, I want my club to drain every single pound out of the mahrez deal. I think 35-40 million is fair for all parties. He have been a Leicester player for 3 years. He played with the club in the championship, fought relegation with Leicester, fought to win the league with Leicester, played in the champions league and pretty much got us to the second round and the club will 100℅ respect his wish if he choose to leave. I might be a little biased but, I think mahrez is the best Leicester player in the modern era ( I will not talk nor disrespect players that I didn't see). I know people think kantè but, mahrez has done a lot more to this club The only Leicester player to win the PFA POTY The only Leicester player to be the best African player of the year The only Leicester player to be in the CL team of the group stage The 7th in the best player in the world voting..... etc... I know he have been inconsistent but, he was with the club through thick and thin and as a club legend I think he would not force a move and the club will not block him.

Credit where it's due every time. I've never doubted or questioned Mahrez's ability or his incredible contribution last season. But this year he's been a shadow of his best overall, and so inconsistent he's gone from brilliant to appalling. Would I sell him and Slimani for £100m? You bet so long as I had replacements signed and sealed. Our team needs a major overhaul. And I don't like the idea of us losing so many people to AFCON. It's disruptive. One I could cope with but three or four is too many. The Mahrez of last season I'd retain and marvel at. But this season his inconsistency - for whatever reasons - has contributed to our problems just as much as other things. Yes, managerially, I'd try to get to the root of his problems but I'm not the manager and the situation doesn't seem to change so why keep a part-time weak link if there's no sign of it mending? We need X1 big hearts on the pitch every game, every week. I'd likely sell Vardy too. Where main strikers are concerned I'm not much bothered about the way they do things, just whether they score 18-20 goals a season. If they don't - and if the support striker doesn't score 10-15 goals - it's a weakness. Vardy's not Mahrez. I don't know what's bugging him and, at 29, I'm not sure there'd be that much point taking time to find out Football is a people trading business. Sell high and buy low but always be a step ahead. That way you build strength in depth and we're not even close to being in that position with half the team feeling the strain of passing time and others underperforming for their various reasons. But none of the above would stop me judging individual performances on their merit. I'd love Vardy, Mahrez, Slimani etc to be playing every week, doing the job they're capable of and enjoying every minute. But you can only hold people's hands for so long. They're grown men with a responsibility to get their own thoughts in order and that seems pretty simple to me in terms of attitude. Do your best every week for yourself and your team, whether you're happy or not. Anything less and you might as well be somewhere else. Agree with all of that! Good post.

I'd rather watch him than most players as he's capable of doing what most others can't and genuinely causing you to jump out of your seat. Whether he's the best Leicester player of the modern era depends on the criteria you place on that accolade and is impossible to judge but he is, at times, the most joyful to watch.

I've no argument with most of that except that Kane and Mahrez are totally different players and Kante quite easily the best I've seen at Leicester in that role. Mahrez has been a good servant overall and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching him for much of the time. His record is well deserved and speaks for itself. His job now is to add some more chapters.

Absolutely love Riyad If rumours are true, his new contract has no release clause but he has some sort of gentleman's agreement to be sold if a club meets his valuation. LCFC was said to value him at 49m in the summer. Seeing what's happened in the last two windows though, with what's come out about Ulloa Schlupp Hernandez etc, LCFC seem to play hardball and make it very difficult for players to leave even when their valuation is met, as long as the manager thinks they still have a slight use as a bench player. I suspect we'll get a bid of 35m or so for Riyad, and tell him he's not being sold because we value him at 50m. And he'll probably sulk, and it depends how forcefully he wants to push a move but I can see a Berahino situation happening. It's no way to treat him, he deserves better, after giving us so much.

Kantè=3 2 their best season: Both a 10 3- loyalty to the club: Mahrez a 7 and kantè a 4( because he didn't leave in the winter) 4- personal accolades: Mahrez a 10 and kantè a 7 5- importance to the team: Mahrez an 8 and kantè a 10 6- international representation: Mahrez a 9 ( pfa and African poty). Kantè a 7.5 ( French international) 7 consistency: Mahrez a 7 and kantè a 10. And that is a 58 out of 70 for mahrez and 51.5 for kantè ( and I think that is pretty fair)

Are you serving a prison term? In the spirit of maintaining Anglo/Algerian relationships and because I'm sat on my sofa doing nothing (listening to Charlie Nicholas and Paul Merson butchering the English language does not count as a pastime), I've taken the time to think about and rate by your above criteria. We disagree on some of the areas you've included for judgement and some of the marks given in some areas but on the whole we agree. For the sake of clarity, Riyad will always be remembered more fondly by me than Kante, for a huge variety of reasons. 1:time at the club: Mahrez= 7. Kantè=4 Kante came, we gave him his big break, then he left. I'm not bitter, just glad he came. We gave him a break but he repaid it with one glorious season. If it was a score for impact during his time at the club, I'd give Kante a 10, but it isn't. So it's 1 from me. 2 their best season: Both a 10 fair enough marks though Kante was so unbelievable in most games I'd give him a 10 and Riyad 9 as Riyad drifts in and out of games. 3- loyalty to the club: Mahrez an 7 and kantè a 4( because he didn't leave in the winter) I would have given Kante 0, not surprised he didn't leave in the winter as we had a chance of winning the title by then. He will look back on his year with City with fondness as he won the title but I don't think he has any genuine loyalty. Mahrez an 8. 4- personal accolades: Mahrez a 10 and kantè a 7 I'm not sure I would even include this but if you do you could argue Kante's remarkable stats across last season are a personal accolade. Mahrez was footballer of the year so I suppose he should shade it but I'd give Kante a 9 5- importance to the team: Mahrez an 8 and kantè a 10 A genuine observance as you are a big Mahrez fan and have marked Kante higher. I'd agree on this, with the benefit of hindsight, Kante has to be a 10. Riyad can be a 10 in games but can be a 5 so I'd give him 7 rather than 8 6- international representation: Mahrez a 9 ( pfa and African poty). Kantè a 7.5 ( French international) This is difficult to judge. The highest honour is representing your country and they've both done it. Kante has much more top class opposition to get past to play for France so I'd rate him a point higher. If pfa player of the year is used in 'personal accolades, it can't be used to score points in this category too in my humble opinion. Mahrez 8 Kante 9. 7 consistency: Mahrez a 7 and kantè a 10. Again, your rating of Kante at 10 is honest and probably correct, certainly for last season. I find it hard to rate Riyad above 5 over his time with the club. Last season alone, an 8 would be fair enough but over the whole time a midway point of 5 is probably more realistic I make it 54 Mahrez, 49 Kante but it's all subjective. Having said all that, I'd be very surprised if anyone remembers Kante with more affection than Riyad in years to come.
