Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Is Riyad Mahrez likely to be playing in the World Cup? Has he played for Algeria yet?
Xen Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 He's not been capped yet (at any level), and is eligible for both France and Algeria, but ' has expressed desires to play for Algeria ' according to wiki. He wasnt called up for their match earlier this month, so I think its unlikely he'll be going to Brazil.
separator Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 There's been a few decent players that are French-born to Algerian parents... Benzema, Nasri, Zidane. All opted to play for France. Now Riyad is on the verge of the Prem i'm sure he will be on the Algerians radar. Maybe not for the WC though.
RizLCFC Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 If he keeps up his current level of performance I don't see why he can't make the Algeria squad.
Ric Flair Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 If he keeps up his current level of performance I don't see why he can't make the Algeria squad. It surprises me that Knockaert hasn't made any Under 21 squads since late 2012. Perhaps France don't rate the the Championship standard very highly?

GingerrrFox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Zidane's parents were Egyptian. He's definetly Algerian to some extent. Both France and Algeria were trying to get him to play for their sides.
Langston Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Zidane's parents were Egyptian. I could swear blind they're Algerian.
GingerrrFox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Algeria could have a bloody good team if the players eligible for them chose the nation Nasri and Benzema are two who would make a huge difference to them.
separator Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Zidane's parents were Egyptian. Kablyie region of northern Algeria according to Wiki. Moved to France before the Algerian war.

France U21 squad is full of quality players, there not short on wingers either so maybe that's why, but I see your point.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I could swear blind they're Algerian. I agree... now come to think of it, were they Moroccan??
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 17 March 2014 Author Posted 17 March 2014 The French leagues are full of French Algerian players
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Really like what I'm see from RM. Great technical ability, plays with a smile on his face and most important of all being a leicester city player for me, he has a fabulous arse too. Better than Fryatt's ever was, and he had a cracking little stinkhole.
Ashley Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Algeria could have a bloody good team if the players eligible for them chose the nation Nasri and Benzema are two who would make a huge difference to them. Agreed. Zidane was told he wasn't good enough for Algeria..
Dan Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Didn't realise Mahrez was from Sarcelles. Isn't that meant to be the slum of Paris?
Dan Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 I've decided to update Sarcelles' 'personalities' section as Mahrez wasn't on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcelles
