Riyad Mahrez

I've said it before, he's here in body but not in spirit. If he doesn't buck up his efforts soon, his dream Spanish move will be more Real Betis than Real Madrid!!

World class players impose themselves on games consistently. Currently Riyad is well off those levels.

Gray was better than him today.

On the right wing, Albrighton was better than him. Sell him. Sell magic.

He has been with Okazaki one of the most subbed players in the team. Previously, he has never complained about that. Today's reaction (I haven't seen it as I missed part of the second half) would rather indicate that something else is going on between him and the coach.

I saw a hell of a lot of scowling and shaking of his head when he was subbed this after. I think he thinks it's offensive to even consider taking him off, whereas we can see his inconsistency - as well as his magic. I think he needs a 'minder'. Gray appears to also have that maungy attitude. Time they both knuckled down to developing that other essential facet of a pro footballer - consistency.

I think you may be reading too much into this. I've just rewatched that bit, and he started the head shaking when he gave away a throw in, which happened right before being substituted. I think that he was still expressing frustration with himself for that, rather than the substitution.

He did seem a bit mardy on tunnel cam but that could be what he's always like anyway. Or maybe he was upset his buddy Feghouli didn't make the Algerian AFCON squad, they spent quite some time talking to each other.

Anyway he's posted a nice message on facebook after the match "Great game from the whole team congratulations to my brother Islam slimani for his magnificent goal that we bring the victory #lcfc #teamdz#rm26 1f4aa_1f3fd.png?? "

This. Real and Barca don't just go and spend fortunes without scouting not just talent, but also attitude, work ethic, time keeping, personality, everything. If he get's a reputation and it looks like he already is then no big club will want him. And if a player like Gray works his socks off then he will take his place.

Can people please stop looking for a story. He didn't play well today. End of story. Why do people need to read too much into it. Yes his reaction was not ideal after he was subbed off. But that doesn't mean he is looking for problems or any thing. Maybe he was disappointed in him self. Maybe he thought he was subbed ahead of time. But people here seem to interpret every reaction of his as a sign of a bad attitude. And those people need to grow up. We won the game and that's all that matters. Onwards and upwords .COYF :scarf:

Yeah, as if Ronaldo or Messi would hug the coach for subbing them   :D

I liked Riyad's reaction to coming off to be fair, didn't throw his toys out of the pram and throw his shirt on the floor or anything, just looked absolutely gutted. Certainly a good thing.

The story is his body language and form over most of the season. Certainly not one isolated huff.

IMO I think Ranieri is handling Mahrez perfect right now. CR has said things public about his overall play, he dropped him, he started him, he took him off clearly when Mahrez didn't wanna go off. If this lights him up more and makes him basically unplayable against Boro and before he goes to AFCON and then to AFCON on a high then job done

If Mahrez just starts sulking more then it's ultimately his fault! He will end up going AFCON on a low which could affect his performances for Algeria in that competition

Agreed. What's good about all of this is that our manager clearly sees no one as undroppable. Very important and a good message to send out to others. Plus CR is in the right on this one anyway.

I agree. In an article this week Slimani stated how Marhez was instrumental in persuading him to come to Leicester and mixed with him after football. He also mentioned that he now made his own way to training as Marhez was always late and getting fined.

This was corroborated by Jamie Vardy in an interview with Soccer AM. When asked who was the worst trainer he named Marhez that if he did a couple of good skills he thought he'd had a good session. He also remarked that he was always late for training and getting fined (sometimes late or just in time on matchdays). Vardy said he didn't have a problem with this as he always paid his fines.

I on the other hand do! For  £100,000 a week he should get his lazy arse into gear. It's disrespectful to his manager and team mates and disrespectful to the club as a whole. Paying a fine means nothing. Do you think he'd be late if he was at Barcelona or Real Madrid? Would they let him be.

Here I think we have our answer,  he's a Billy Big Bollocks who thinks he's better than the rest. If you're Ronaldo or Messi maybe but he's not, he's a big fish in a little pond and Ranieri's very unusual criticism of him implicitly suggests that he may be losing patience.

He wasn't that industrious yesterday and didn't look as fit as others. He's on a long contract and needs some discipline. A spell on the bench and huge fines if his lateness is a continual problem.

He is not a billy big bollocks at all. He may have ambition to play for a European super club but very much feet on the ground and actually very humble. I think he would be disappointed to see some of these comments.

So perhaps he's just a lazy selfish Bollocks then who needs a kick up the arse then. He won't get to play for a European super club on current performances. Supporters can always forgive drops in form, it happens. The really good players however work even harder to try and regain it. Marhez it seems is lazy on and off the pitch at the moment. European super clubs wouldn't put up with that and neither should we.

Spot on.

He looked pissed off with his own performance more than being subbed. Went close a couple of times but I think he wanted to impress up front and it didn't happen.

One thing with Riyad is that he doesn't come across as a big head.

Didn't play great yesterday.  Too play number 10 every thing has too come through you. We went long to slimani.

Second balls was all he had to contend with but he could have  worked a lot harder... !

Typical fox talk looking for a scape goat. BUT hold on a  minute we won lol

Oh and I actually don't think he's a billy big bollocks but he definitely hasn't had his head quite right for a while now. And like I said I think CR is handling it perfectly

It's up to Riyad in the end if he wants to get back there head wise. CR won't stand for passengers, we just can't afford that risk. I think CR early season was being very generous to Riyad without getting anything back and now he's making him earn it and whether he does? we shall find out

Riyad has to be careful, yes he's an incredible talent but he's not even close to any big money move anymore. Put the work in again, get focused and if you eventually want that big move you will have earned it. Riyad could easily end up at a huge club or end up doing nothing in the end

His wife has not long given birth and there have been a number of other things on his mind. He's a quality player. I think he remains applied but possibly frustrated at all the hit and hope. This last part is just of course my opinion. I suspect we will see much more from him later this season.

That's not really what I said though was it. It was nothing to do with him having a sulk at being taken off most players do and, to be honest, I don't mind that to a point, as it shows passion. It's all to do with him turning up late to training. In the Mercury, Slimani said he has stopped going to training with Mahrez as he's always being fined for being late and Vardy was joking about it on SSN.  That's just not good enough IMO

I think you're going a bit over the top there and the comments made from slim and vardy are meant more in jest than anything else.

We all no flair players are a bit hit and miss and languid in style. That's Riyad to a tee. But this year I have seen him completely drift out of games and show limited interest in getting involved. On top of this I've seen increasing signs of repeated micro-strops, something that was not evident before.

Now you can blame everything, including his missus late night breast feeding if you want. However I think the lad needs to try a lot harder and earn his £100k. He earned the right to a salary hike, but now needs to justify it week in week out.

I hope it's just a form dip, but the micro strop he had away at Watford lingers in my memory. At the time I posted that I was quite shocked by how he gave up in a contest with an imposing full-backs. I said then and I will repeat it - I fear we may never see "our real" Riyad again.

I hope not.

I am a big mahrez "fanboy". But this "late to training" thing should end. You are a professional player and you should respect the laws of the club. I am disappointed in him. I don't think he has a big ego but he has somethings to work on. Get it together, riyad. This is unacceptable!
