Albert Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 They were petrified of him as soon as he came on. Put him out wide where he couldn't influence the game. Why he wasn't either put through the middle or given a free role is beyond me

Never know. PL safety assured, maybe he will stay with us for the foreseeable future. Positive rapport with the fans, seemingly happy family life. How many of the "big" teams would put up with his laid-back lifestyle, whose players are expected to be the ultimate professional? Anyhow, today showed he's still our best player by a long way. He wanted to leave last summer. He will leave next summer. Why should he stay? Arsenal is waiting.

Not with us, not in France, not in his national team.

Raj Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 We will only know how good this man is,when he plays with players at his level. Our team is bringing him down. He is the only player we have at the moment who has the ability to weave any magic
dayday Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 When he committed to us last summer, we should have bought players to compliment him. Such a shame really.
Foxhateram Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 He did well yesterday. Buts let's not pretend he's having a good season. He has been wildely out form, just like the entire squad. I haven't seen anything from him this year that suggests that he should be able to cement a place in a consistent top 4 team, infact he has looked like a winger who isn't capable of coping with being double marked. He does too much with the ball sometimes and runs into blind allies and until he learns to draw players in and switch to the man in space, he will never be a great winger like Ronaldo, Beckham etc.
jon1bc Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 I think it's harsh to judge him like that when he is surrounded by a bunch of dross. To a certain extent you're only as good as the players around you. He should have played from the start last night. Make the most of him because in a few months he'll be gone and we will never get a player of his quality again
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 Said for months he'll be gone at the end of the season. He's underperformed this season, but he's too good to be playing alongside this midfield. Imagine playing alongside Kante, Hazard, or maybe Pogba or Mata? Who knows..possibly even Yaya and DeBruyne? Instead, he's been fed in this season by Amartey or King. Or Albrighton has overcooked yet another cross to him. Yeah, he's been poor himself but imagine how frustrated he must be.
shiv Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 He did look better last night. However, one thing that irritates me about him this season is that he's stopped coming over and clapping the fans at away games.
lgfualol Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 His talent is being wasted here. He must absolutely destroy our defenders in training.
MattCan Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 I was hoping that Sporting midfielder would join to help him but looks like that option may never have existed.
Leamington Fox Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 He's the most skilful player to wear the shirt in my 43 years. Vardy has been much worse this season, in my opinion, but for a great number of City fans is immune from criticism.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 He was good last night, looked refreshed coming on and his link up play was great at times. If we became a possession based team he'd flourish because his control and on the ball ability is top draw.
coolhandfox Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 Great player, who has no desire to be here, will be gone in the summer and will shine for his new team. Should have sold him this summer, all the season is doing is reducing the fee we will receive, if we had sold him this summer we would have got 30-40 million. Can see him going for less than 30 now!
Guest the fox Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 Needs a RB as soon as possible. I have no problem with Simpson. I would even consider him as a CB. But, with the kind of personnel we have, his play style is not helping us move forward.

Yeah, a prime player of the year going for the same fee as sissoko. No chance.

Wonderful player when on song but I'm not sure I see anyone paying much over 30m for him at the end of the season and we'd be in no position to play 'hard ball' if he wanted to leave. I hope you're right and I'm wrong as we're going to need new players having already spent a fortune and not improved.
Thracian Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 9 hours ago, K1FOX said: To think last week I had to comment on a thread that said should we have sold mahrez. He is 10 levels above every single one of our players. Keep the ball like we did second half and he will do amazing things for us. Simple I can't see what that comment would have to do with his performance last night. Credit where it's due every time. I've never doubted or questioned Mahrez's ability or his incredible contribution last season. But this year he's been a shadow of his best overall, and so inconsistent he's gone from brilliant to appalling. Would I sell him and Slimani for £100m? You bet so long as I had replacements signed and sealed. Our team needs a major overhaul. And I don't like the idea of us losing so many people to AFCON. It's disruptive. One I could cope with but three or four is too many. The Mahrez of last season I'd retain and marvel at. But this season his inconsistency - for whatever reasons - has contributed to our problems just as much as other things. Yes, managerially, I'd try to get to the root of his problems but I'm not the manager and the situation doesn't seem to change so why keep a part-time weak link if there's no sign of it mending? We need X1 big hearts on the pitch every game, every week. I'd likely sell Vardy too. Where main strikers are concerned I'm not much bothered about the way they do things, just whether they score 18-20 goals a season. If they don't - and if the support striker doesn't score 10-15 goals - it's a weakness. Vardy's not Mahrez. I don't know what's bugging him and, at 29, I'm not sure there'd be that much point taking time to find out Football is a people trading business. Sell high and buy low but always be a step ahead. That way you build strength in depth and we're not even close to being in that position with half the team feeling the strain of passing time and others underperforming for their various reasons. But none of the above would stop me judging individual performances on their merit. I'd love Vardy, Mahrez, Slimani etc to be playing every week, doing the job they're capable of and enjoying every minute. But you can only hold people's hands for so long. They're grown men with a responsibility to get their own thoughts in order and that seems pretty simple to me in terms of attitude. Do your best every week for yourself and your team, whether you're happy or not. Anything less and you might as well be somewhere else.

I would say he will be going for 35-40M, Newcastle got relegated and still got 30 for sissoko. a 35M for mahrez would considered a bargain if any one got him this summer. Just look at mane last season. Mahrez had a better carrier than him but he have gone for 35M.
Matt Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 He did look a little better last night, let's see if he can do it for a full 90 on Tuesday.

Don't get me wrong Fox, by todays standards Riyad is worth 50m plus, even during a poor season for him personally. If he had genuine quality players around him he could cause mayhem for a top side when the opposition have several skilfull players to contend with. I just think we'll be in a tough bargaining position and when the fateful day comes, he may be so unhappy by that point that we'll have to 'offload' him for well less than his market worth to avoid the club/unhappy player stand off that has reared it's ugly head with plenty of other players like Payet and Berahino to name but two. I sincerely hope a similar situation doesn't arise with Riyad and it will be a sad day for all City fans when he leaves whether we get 25m or 80m for him. That said, he will leave us all with wonderful memories when he does go.
Corky Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 Hopefully he can have a great three months, get us to safety then I wouldn't begrudge him moving to a better team.
