Silverdaz Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 As a lot of out players are getting praise for their performances at the moment I just thought I would give a shout out to our captain who I think has had a steady influence on the team and very rarely (hope im not tempting fate here) put a foot wrong. So keep up the good work Captain Fantastic
Jimmy Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 He's been solid but I think Liam was outshining him this season to the point Wes was the 1 being targeted by their strikers
westernpark Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 He's recentley been outshone by big Wasyl, but he's still been solid this season.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 He's been fairly solid, but hasn't really shone this season, for some reason.
suffolk fox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Due to his lack of pace he will get tore a new one next season by premiership strikers
ousefox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Probably had less to do this season so we haven't noticed him as much. Don't fancy him in the Prem though - imagine him against speedy, trickery strikers every week. Which is odd considering he is probably one of the best CB's outside the top tier. We will see.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 If Curtis Davies can do well in the prem then I see no reason why wes can't do a job
Silverdaz Posted 21 March 2014 Author Posted 21 March 2014 and if anyone deserves a chance in the Prem its Wes
Raj Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 he's immense. keep saying we need to do the Ben Marshall chant for wes ...but no one listens...
Tommy G Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Curtis Davies is a better defender and much quicker, whoever made that comparison. Wes will struggle next season which is a shame as he's been one of our best for the past cpl of seasons
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Wes isn't the quickest but you watch him.. his positional sense compensates for his lack of pace. He reminds me of some of the older Italian defenders. Never the fastest, but you try getting past the fookers... Wes will be ok IMO.

Exactly: back in the day, neither Steve Walsh nor Matt Elliott were fast, but they knew where they had to be - and from what I've seen of Wes, he has exactly that positional skill. Watch him with Moore or Wasyl, and he's always pointing, talking, moving. Top man and I definitely want to see him in the Prem, when/if we get there.
kingfox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 He has been consistent, not as good as last season, as I think Liam & Marcin have stolen his thunder a bit with their terrific performances. However majority of the time he is a 7/10 or 8/10 performer. Wes has deserved a shot in the Premier League for a while now, I hope we can give him it.
deep blue Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Probably had less to do this season so we haven't noticed him as much. That's a very easy throw-away line. "Every week"? How many strikers do you think there are in the Prem that are particularly quicker than Champ strikers? Do you really think that every Prem team has one or more strikers that are quicker than any strikers in the Champ, because that's what you're saying? I would guess that Wes would handle himself well against most teams. He might, for example, struggle against the combo of Sturridge & Suarez, but who wouldn't.
Wilson_6 Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Personally i think Wes will do well in the prem. I dont thinks he's as slow as every one makes out on here and for such a big lad he does have a good first touch and his positioning is very good. Also i dont think he has been outshone by either Moor or Wasl. I think he makes both of them look better because they are paired with him tbh.
CPW22 Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 He's recentley been outshone by big Wasyl, but he's still been solid this season. I can't agree with this. He is one of most consistant performers we have. If anything he add's to Wasyl's performance. Due to his lack of pace he will get tore a new one next season by premiership strikers John O'Shea survives in the prem so I am sure Wes can too. Personally i think Wes will do well in the prem. Haydos Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 This lack-of-pace-in-the-prem-will-detroy-him is a load of lazy, cliched rubbish imo. There are plenty of defenders in the prem who lack pace and make up for it in ability.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Not every CB in the prem is quick and not every striker in the prem is quick I've seen no evidence that he'll struggle in the prem anymore than any other CB struggles against the very best strikers
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Alex Bruce seems to be doing well in the prem(somehow) and I'd have wes over him any day
westernpark Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 I can't agree with this. He is one of most consistant performers we have. If anything he add's to Wasyl's performance. John O'Shea survives in the prem so I am sure Wes can too. Couldn't agree more. For me Wasyl is better, he's a better passer than some of our midfielders, I sometimes even fell like our players are not on the same wavelength as him! The only thing Morgan lacks is a pass. Sometimes when he goes to kick the ball, he looks like he is going to break his ankle! But you can't judge somebody on whether they will be competent in the premier league, when they've never played there.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 John Terry and Rio Ferdinand are famous for their pace as centre half's ...
Leicesterpool Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Wes will do well in the premier league, it's just a shame he choose to play for Jamaica at international level, one good season in the premier league he could have found himself a england cap!

Think his age might've counted against him as far as England are concerned as they never seem to consider uncapped older players(lambert is the exception and he won't get many caps)
