what? Nugent normally plays off of Vardy dropping into midfield, he wasn't helping out there as much tonight

It was more that Hammond and King scored, I think I quoted you by mistake.

Bloody King scoring goals.

....and Hammond

They were both poor tonight but you can't knock them because they've got us the goals.

Still, for the love of god bring Drinky and James back in on Friday.

yeah we play 2 CM's but Nugent normally drops back and makes a 3 in like a triangle, we didn't play that way today, maybe Wood not being as quick meant we couldn't? not being critical of Nugent just pointing out a difference

That's clutching at straws in reality, Nugent usually drops slightly deeper but he in no way makes it a midfield 3. Wood was still helping out in there albeit maybe not as well as Nugent but there were too many passes that went astray in the middle, too many 2nd balls not won and essentially just a drop off in quality from when we have Drinkwater and James in there. Central midfield is an area we need to strengthen for the Premiership next season.

King was absolutely fine earlier this season playing next to Drinkwater, towards the end of last season he was good with James next to him. I don't think King and Hammond will work together regularly as a pairing, Hammond strikes me as a guy to close the game down/ come on if it gets tough rather than start.

fair do's mate, the problem tonight has been a problem for a long time, we cannot cope with defending set pieces

stray passes are bound to happen with 2 players that haven't played in a couple of months its just a lack of match sharpness, both DD and James are more mobile then Hammond too

Hammond wasn't great today (but scored). Kingy was kingy, lovely finish, typical self. Needs someone who can stamp their mark on a game better than Hammond next to him, though.

King/Drinky or King/James is fine in this league, good in fact. The league above? Who knows...

Not sure if this is true but the Leicester page on Facebook says that King's goal last night makes him the highest scoring midfielder in the clubs history. Not bad going for the 'invisible man'

For me King could easily replace Drinkwater or James as long as the other one plays. I thought he was fine against Wigan and took on the Drinkwater role well.

The midfield did get outnumbered because Hammond isn't at his best as part of a 2 man centre. He is best playing in front of the back 4 as part of a 3 man centre when we need to see a game out. He doesn't have the energy or passing range of James and Drinkwater but he is the best holding midfielder we have and breaks up attacks well.

James perhaps, when he's on form, at this level, but not Drinky.

For me he is a bench player at top championship level and above. He goes awol too often and I am always mystified by the love in with him.

It's because he was a shining light from our League 1 days and he's from our academy. He's a solid Championship player for a team in and around the Top 6 but nothing more. Drinkwater and James are miles ahead of him and we need to strengthen for the Premiership alongside those 2.

His first two seasons at this level were pretty good.

Yeah in a team who made the playoffs one season and was mediocre afterwards. I'm not slagging King, claiming he's shit or anything along those lines. He's a good Championship player for a team in and around the Top 6. However starting from last season and even more so this season it has become obvious that Drinkwater and James are a class above King. That can't be disputed.

With promotion to the Premiership looking likely we are going to improve the squad in all areas and I struggle to see King overtaking those 2 let alone any players Nigel brings in to compete at the next level.

People say that King will be better in the Premiership etc but he's not at the standard of Drinkwater and James who are both younger than him and he doesn't warrant a place over them. I can see him staying next season but he's going to have a struggle to get games IMO.

Ok then.

So you don't think Drinkwater is a better player than King? I know football is a game of opinions but that has to be a joke.

My opinion on who is better is irrelevant. I was merely alluding to your point that Drinkwater was a class above last season. I don't know if you remember, but he was pretty awful for the second half of the last season and whilst King had probably his worst season in a Leicester shirt, he was still better than Drinkwater last season.

Drinkwater has been our best player this season and has been instrumental in the success we've had.

The first half of last season when we were flying high coincided with Drinkwater playing quality football as soon as his form dropped and he starting played badly is the same time as when we started to slump. No coincidence that our team's performances dropped as our midfield dictator's dropped.

I've reached the conclusion that some posters on here are very pro Andy King. Dmayne7 appears to be one of them. Trying to suggest that we have consistently looked a stronger, quicker side when King isn't in the team (and our stronger midfield appears to have been a major factor in our promotion credentials this season) kinda falls on deaf ears.

I like King. I've said many times that I respect him as a player and respect his loyalty to the club. I've also said that I don't rate him as highly as many seem to do. And stick with it really.

Totally agreed that Drinkwater and James are better players, they dictate games far more than King does. King should be kept around for his excellent finishing and ability to keep things simple when needed, in the way Hammond has been brought in to do (King will offer more all round than Hammond).

Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Wigan saw Leicester City midfielder Andy King break a long-standing Club record held by the legendary Davie Gibson.

In typical King style, the long-serving Academy graduate latched onto David Nugent’s flick in the first half to curl a delightful right footed finish into the bottom corner and level the match at 1-1.

That was King’s 54th goal in 270 appearances, moving him above Gibson and into 22nd place on the all-time scoring charts – making him the most prolific conventional midfielder in Leicester City history.

The 25-year-old Wales international made his debut in City blue at home to Wolves way back in October 2007, with his first goal coming two months later against Southampton.

Since then King has played a key role in his seven seasons at the Club, and to have eclipsed the great Gibson’s goal tally in such a short space of time is a real indication of his talent.

Club Historian John Hutchinson reflected: “For Andy to have beaten Davie Gibson’s goal scoring record is a remarkable feat. Davie was a Scotland international and one of the most skilful midfield players ever to play for the Club.

“His wonderful skills entranced Leicester City fans for nearly a decade. His contemporaries rated him as one of the best footballers they ever played with.

“Davie played well over 300 games for the City, most of them in the old First Division. He also appeared in the 1963 and 1969 FA Cup Finals and won the League Cup in 1964 as well as appearing in another League Cup Final in 1965.â€

Obviously it's difficult to compare eras and qualities of opposition but King's goal quality compilation would rival any player the club has had.
