5-Live and the stench of jealousy

It's started. Pre-match interview with Burnley chairman ...

Dig no. 1 "Burnley are not owned by foreigners";

Dig no. 2 "Turf Moor did not come out of a box";

Dig no. 3 "We want to get promotion in front of our fans".

All true statements but clear who they had in mind.

Later, Jimmy Armfied "Wigan are the best side in the Championship".

Expect more, sod 'em :rolleyes:

I really don't get this 'Wigan are the best side in the Championship rubbish'.

We are 22 points ahead of them and have taken 4 points from them this season. If they want to base it on their cup run in comparison to ours, we were the only Championship side to make it to the quarter finals of the League Cup. Wigan start with Martyn Waghorn up front who couldn't even get into our 18 man matchday squad.

We are the best side, that's why we are top. A team might get "lucky" and beat a team better than them (Wycombe at Leicester, Barnsley at Liverpool, Palace at Man UTD etc) but over the course of a 40+ match season the table doesn't lie and the best team wins the division, and the worst get relegated.

Wigan are a good side though, who play attractive football. They are well run as well. They made an error giving Coyle the job (he isn't that good of a manager) and if Rosler was there from the start of the season then they might be higher in the league.

Water of a ducks back. Not sure why people bother themselves with such comments, we know we're market leaders on merit and everything you've listed what the Burnley chairman has said is factual.

We've got 7 more points than Wigan since Rosler took over.

I think they'd have been bloody close to us had Rosler been there all along, but he wasn't. Leicester are the best team in the Championship.

Just imagine how they'd be getting on if they'd had the right referees.

Dig no. 1 "Burnley are not owned by foreigners";  ---   Im very jealous of their financial firepower, its not everything but i know which owners id prefer.

Dig no. 2 "Turf Moor did not come out of a box";   ---   We must envy their 22k seater that is 60% full on average, with less facilities to boot.

Dig no. 3 "We want to get promotion in front of our fans".  ---   Not even a dig tbf just a statement literally everyone would like.

Later, Jimmy Armfied "Wigan are the best side in the Championship".   ---   He's entitled to his opinion, although with opinions like that not many will respect his future ones.

not people know burnley have 3 seasons to replace there wooden stand because of the fire risk fa dont want a bradford happen again so it got be replaced

We've seen enough evidence this season that so called football experts and that includes fans are very insular, inward looking and media headline led on their knoowledge of what it happening at other football clubs and in the case of professional pundits any football club especially those outside the pl.

Best ignored.

The foreign owners dig is the mark of a moron - examples of british owners include SISU at cov and Wankleman at MkDonalds. I'd rather have the thais than those club stealers... Nationality has nothing to do with ability to run a club.

Was just having a look at Burnley's squad to see how many nasty foreigners they had in their squad. Turns out they're a bit UKIP on that front too, but I didn't know Ashley Barnes had made an appearance at youth international level for Austria!

Posted

I'd hope the foreigners dig isn't at our owners, given how professional and in the background they've been this season (and last when there was a clamour to change manager).

Burnley have done very well, just grating how much they play the little club/ little resources line. Just enjoy your promotion without digging at other people.

Little club, no resources my arse. Whats happened to the £48M parachute payments they've received in the last 3 years. Perhaps their oh so english honourable chairman has stolen it? I hate the Dingles, tin pot wannabes. Still, 6 points for us next season.

Makes me laugh most of their fans think they only spend what they make... £7m loss last year says other wise!

Jimmy Armfield is nearly 80 and doesn't get out of the North West. Probably hasn't seen is play this season! 23 points ahead of Wigan!!

They are having an off day today by the looks of it, losing to a team worse than them.

My favourite quote from him in the first half 'There isn't much difference between the top and bottom teams in the Championship.'

55 points says otherwise.
