itsaknockeart Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Think Ings is fortunate to get in. He's been either average or injured in the last few months (one goal since Feb 8th). You could make a case for Rhodes, Deeney, Vokes, Vardy, Martin all to be ahead of him.
LAprice_ Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Does Schmeichel deserve to be in there ahead of Heaton? Just a thought...
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Does Schmeichel deserve to be in there ahead of Heaton? Just a thought... Not much between them this season. You can make a good case for about 15-20 other players across various positions who have had superb seasons.
Jimothy Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Wouldn't have liked to see one more Burnley player in that team than City, but surely Arfield must have been in with a shout of making a midfield spot.
Guest ttfn Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 I think they've got that pretty much bang on, with the obvious exception of Hughes who should have been replaced by Vardy, Austin or Marney. Or Kightly. Or Arfield. Or Barton. Or Rhodes. Or Vokes. Or Nugent. Or Dyer. Or Knockaert. Or basically 1/2 of the midfielders and forwards in the division.
sdb Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 I'm not bothered about assists- they're an added bonus surely when you're talking about a full back? I bet he's nowhere near as quick as De Laet and this attribute means no one ever seems to get past him. Err people do get past RDL!! He's had a good year but Trippier has had a better season, no doubt about it.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Jason Shackell? Fook off. You're kidding, right? He's been magnificent this season.

StanSP Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Jason Shackell? Fook off. He and Ben Mee have been great for Burnley at the back. Not sure why it's such an absurd shout.
itsaknockeart Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Yep, they are going to leave out the football league player of the season. He was also fortunate to win that. Dunno why they can't wait until the end of the season to vote/decide on awards.
DennisNedry Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Would have thought James deserved a place but they wouldn't put 2 CMs in from one team. Hughes? Seen him twice this season and he was shite both times, he must be inconsistent but brilliant when he's on a good day.
gcah2013 Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 He was also fortunate to win that. Dunno why they can't wait until the end of the season to vote/decide on awards. He almost certainly would have still won it. Managers of the league voted on it and many had already played him twice by that point in the season. I would argue that Drinky deserved it more even at the time but there is no doubting that Ings was a class above for most of his matches this season. Goals are always going to stand out more than a midfield who controls a game.
leicesterisme Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Can't really argue with that side apart from Will Hughes, how on earth has he got into it.
itsaknockeart Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Goals are always going to stand out more than a midfield who controls a game. I'd agree with that but his final tally of 20 isn't really that impressive - Rhodes, Deeney, McCormack and Grabban all have more. And has he been a more important player to Burnley than Vokes, who has also scored 20 and is the spearhead of their attack? I would guess that a lot of the voting took place for these awards in Feb/March and at that stage he probably was the worthy winner. Now - not so much.
Kitchandro Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Agree mostly but it wouldn't be a very good team with 4 centre mids and no wingers. Who's the manager of this team, Sven? 3 of them probably deserve to be in there as individuals. Then there's Will Hughes who was selected for this team before the season actually started, and no actual performances were going to impact on that since he is the next Messi.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 All the Wes Morgan haters on here. Pipe down lads.
Langston Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 I'd put Dyer in there ahead of Reid. Don't even get me started on how Zak Whitbread's little brother got into that team. Matty James is the best midfielder in the league. Well, definitely in the top 2. Meh, as much as I hate Forest with an intense passion it's hard to say Reid isn't in this side on merit, he's bloody fantastic.

I would guess that a lot of the voting took place for these awards in Feb/March and at that stage he probably was the worthy winner. Now - not so much. It isn't necessarily his tally that stands out - he is a game changer for Burnley. With 20 goals to his name, he has been Burnley's first scorer in 15 league matches this season. But he offers more than that with his play. He's strong, holds up the ball well and is determined to hassle defenders all game. If Leicester were given the option to him or any of the four you mentioned, I wouldn't even have a second thought before snatching Ings. On a side note; David Nugent has 19 league goals and 11 league assists. Surely worthy of a mention among those names? You're right, probably a topic best served in another thread.
teblin Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Its based on voted isnt it? The intetesting one is the full back cresswell. Deserved his place and will be on our radar I think
DB11 Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Pretty close to what I predicted, just thought one of Vardy or Nugent would have made it. Forgot about McCormack though but it's hard to not include him and his 27 goals or whatever he has. Well done to Kasper, Morgan and Drinkwater though. Thought they'd be certs. Players voting for other players won't vote for Vardy if they perceive him to have dived for a lot of penalties (I don't think he has)
BlackburnClaret Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Burnley have missed Vokes, probably more than we missed Ings when he was out. Dare I say the the title would have been a hell of a lot closer if both had stayed fit? What people miss with Ings is his incredible work rate, the space he makes for other players. He's a proper team player, which is exactly what Rhodes isn't. Even the horse fiddlers get frustrated with him.

MC Prussian Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Delighted to see three of our players making the best XI of the season. Can't complain about that. As for the other eight, credit where credit is due. They all deserve it.
