I would love to know why people expect us to be able to compete with already established premier league clubs, it makes no sense.

It's quite defeatist to simply state there's no way we can. It's hard to, of course it is as players will look at the likelyhood of which side will do better and of course the more established sides can risk paying more money than newly promoted clubs. That said, a good manager should be able to use his personal skills to sell the vision the club has. Some newly promoted teams are scared of showing real intent and ambition, which will put players off.

Good, he's really not that great.

I dont agree.

He'd have been a very good signing for City.

I'm starting to get itchy feet now and I'd class myself as a fairly patient chap. This constant stream of players going elsewhere which would have been decent for us is starting to grate and we're fast running out of time.

If we don't look to smash the transfer fee record or wage structure on one or two players we will come up short. Injuries will do us, we don't have anywhere near enough strength in depth across all positions.

Need to start taking some risks.

I agree.

I think he is a class act, watched him at Crewe a lot and knew he would go onto bigger things!

Would be a cracking signing.....

That being said.... It won't happen

Need to start taking risks?? Christ man don't panic. We've not even kicked a ball!

Panicking ends you up with Ade Akinbiyi.

Chill the fvck out.

The only concern for me is whether clearly identifed targets (are they?) are choosing other clubs over us for various reasons.

It may well be that, to get who we need, we have to start upping the anti somewhat.

This wage structure thing, though great in principle and probably for morale, will fail if it results in almost everyone we fancy going elsewhere.

I dont know this, its all speculation on my part, but we have to strengthen.

This has already happened with at least 4 targets. Cresswell chose West Ham for more money (and arguably a more stable Premiership club), Inan signed a new deal at Galatasaray, Campbell wanted more money than we would pay him and Pelle wanted too much money when we held initial discussions on potentially signing him.

I think we need to take some risks. We can't play it safe with everyone we bring in.

In terms of risk I'm thinking someone like the guy who played for Ecuador who's gone to West Ham for 12 million.

That would be classed as this marquee signing that's being branded about as well.

We need a game changer, someone who can pull off something out of nothing, we don't have anyone apart from Mahrez imo.

Looks to be off to Swansea. Another missed opportunity.

Nevermind. We still have a week until pre-season starts. :nigel:

The most crucial part of the season. Sod the Premier League games, we need the squad ready and prepared for Ilkeston.

Agreed, he's got all the attributes to be a superstar.

It is a crucial part of the season. Get them to gel in the squad, smash a few goals for us pre season, build confidence, adapt to our style.

Otherwise, They come in late after a preseason learning a different style, not adapted to our style, get terrorized at the start of the season by the fans, Lose all their confidence, stop playing well, get devalued and end up bench warmers. Seen it many times!

I have to say that I am beginning to feel a little concerned. With the traffic moving quite freely now, transfer wise, we need to do some business. With pre season training beginning shortly, Pearson needs to act fast, and use his skills to convince players to move here.

I still have faith in him to bring in the right players, but the clock is ticking.

Targets chose us over other clubs under Sven because of money and it didn't end well.

Taking risks in our position will be pointless. We have the most exciting core side for years. I'm amazed so many are willing to put that at risk for the sake of panic

Try and remember that our most successful period in the top flight came with just two summer signings, a keeper and a centre back.

The Premier league is competitive due to the weakness of a lot of sides not there strengths.

Without any further signings we'll finish around 12th. A couple of quality additions and a ywhere as high as 9th is achievable. Either way, nobody needs a weeping fanny.

Missing out on some target earmarked is a concern, but i think the bigger concern for me is the fact NP keeps clearly stating he only wants 2 more players. Personally i think more than 2 bodies will be required for next season, i'm not saying 7-8, but i think maybe 4 as a minimum.

So true though...

We finished the season with over 100 points in a league that is not as far away from the bottom half of the premiership as it used to be.

The problem with bringing in so many new faces is it can upset the moral..

Germany this year are a prime example of moral and team chemistry. A solid gel'd squad is as good as having a world beater in your team and thats what we have... You could see last season that they were all genuinely close friends in the team... I'm sure we've all had that friend that we loved playing footy with because you were on the same wavelength. That is how it seems at Leicester now.

Look at Southampton... They came up with all these unknowns... Kept them in their team and made a fortune from um!

I have faith in what we have...

A few editions would be good but are not a necessity. We will be safe with what we have.

Your final sentence is a big shout.

I haven't advocated tons of additions, nor big time charlies. Hell no.

But to say 'we'll be safe with what we have?'.. big shout that. Not sure I agree.

ASS man, you're going to have a great season whinging because in all probability we might just fail to secure that CL spot.

Mahrez didn't need a pre-season to fit in, Chris Wood didn't when he joined. We have a month to get the squad right for the first game, Pearson seems to me like a manager who looks for players who will fit in to our style and philosophy so that gelling time won't be as crucial.

We have no idea whether we're being knocked back, who we are looking for, what wages we offer, Pearson is a considered man with regards to transfers so we can go on paper and Twitter speculation. Who knows, we might have several players lined up?

We are in a tough position, we are the new boys and no matter how much money you have, there are more attractive offers out there, clubs who are established.

Exactly what I was going to say, well put. We should be looking for players who are going to compliment our set up and style of play, not adjust our style for the benefit of a new player.

Like you say, Pearson and his staff have previously brought in players who they know will fit in well with our existing set up - I think this 'time to gel' thing is a bit of a myth really. The only thing I would be concerned about is if new signings haven't had as rigorous a pre-season as our lads have. Fitness will be key next season and we'll need our whole squad in top condition. IMO the whole reason that Zak Whitbread failed while he was here was down to his fitness, he was never quite up to the required standard in that regard.

Exactly if the squad isn't in tip top shape for Ilkeston away then we are absolutely screwed.

People need to chill out a bit, this is not a bad thing that we've missed out on him. I know season ticket holders at Wigan who said he was awful from January onwards last season and couldnt even get in Wigan's team, so why would we want him. Hes a big headed twat who thinks he's better than he is and is not the type of player we need. In a few seasons he may be good but not now and we need players that can do a job now.
