Hack Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I have it on very good authority that LCFC approached Mark Schwarzer to become our GK for next season while negotiating with Kasper. He was very seriously considering taking the offer, but is likely to take one more year at Chelsea to be in London because his son is in the Fulham development squad. The club were not sure Kasper was going to resign and was very serious in looking elsewhere. Schwarzer was seen as a good character guy, international experience and long term great PL GK. It was close to happening. Before you ask me to prove it, you will have to take my word as I am in Sydney, Mark's home town, and know common people to Mark. After watching Schwarzer performance for Chelsea against Liverpool, he showed he still has it.
StanSP Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 That last line really confirmed it to me. A good performance means we nearly signed him. And just cos you said it in your post...
Danizen Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I would've been happy with that. Even happier that Kasper signed, though.
Hack Posted 21 May 2014 Author Posted 21 May 2014 I would've been happy with that. Even happier that Kasper signed, though. I agree. I also prefer kasper's signature. My post was not me saying I wanted Mark to be our keeper, just that it nearly happened and why.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Ok, I'll take your word for it cos your in Sydney and it's a small town were everyone know everyone
Tuna Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 We would never go into the premier league with a 42 year old as 1st choice GK. That would have been ridiculous.
Hack Posted 21 May 2014 Author Posted 21 May 2014 Ok, I'll take your word for it cos your in Sydney and it's a small town were everyone know everyone Doesn't mean I don't have the contacts I refer to. Take the information or not. This was happening. I love the way people on this site always seem hungry for information from people that may have such information, but when someone offers it, almost everyone knocks the information or the person giving it. Tuna, It didn't happen but if it did, you would have to take it up with the manager!!
foxoffderby Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 More like MS agent approached LCFC offering his services as KS was taking his time over his contract.

Or maybe I got the wrong end of the stick.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 I think Soccerroo Fox was trying to belittle Sydney, being a Victorian and all. Or maybe I got the wrong end of the stick. Was more due to this line "you will have to take my word as I am in Sydney, Mark's home town" Sydney only has 3-4mil people there, hardly a small town where everyone knows everyone. Not stating the OP hasn't heard things, but by claiming his from Sydney his home CITY is hardly proof regardless it's a non-story. Kasper signed within 2 weeks of the EPL season finishing so the discussions if any wouldn't of been very far along the line.

Hack Posted 22 May 2014 Author Posted 22 May 2014 More like MS agent approached LCFC offering his services as KS was taking his time over his contract. I can assure you it went further than an agent approach. An offer was made. Not as much as he will make sitting on the bench at Chelsea, but he really wants to stay in London for his son. He really did consider accepting the offer.
Hack Posted 22 May 2014 Author Posted 22 May 2014 I think Soccerroo Fox was trying to belittle Sydney, being a Victorian and all. Or maybe I got the wrong end of the stick. Maybe, but I thought he was having a go due to the fact there are over 4 million people in Sydney and doubting that I either Know Mark or people close to him.
EnglishOxide Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 So? Id have been more concerned if we werent eyeing up replacements with the possibility of KS not re-signing.

Jace Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 I have heard on good authority that Nigel Martyn also would have liked to be our goalkeeper too next season, and before you ask I live in his home town and also know common people to Nigel. He was also a decent Premiership goalkeeper in his 30s

Fox92 Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Not sure about potentially having him here now, but he's been one of the Premier League's top goalkeepers. Always rated him, just needed that move to a bigger club earlier like Van Der Sar.
