Ric Flair Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Because they were prepared to give him a salary. Get used to this because unless we loosen the purse strings by some margin we will be no where near even this quality of player let alone someone who can come in and create a real difference. If you shop at Lidl there are one or two real bargains to be had. Unfortunately the rest of the stuff is pretty shit. Oh well you get what you pay for... Sigurdsson won't be on much more than £30,000 a week that's for sure.
chapero82 Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 every body keeps saying we aren't paying enough, when in truth it's the average wage in the premier league, sterling is on that https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/premier-league-average-premier-league-player-earns-30-124222362.html

Robin JD Popley Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Don't need mercenaries here anymore. Palace are more than welcome to him.
Guest Col city fan Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Don't need mercenaries here anymore. Palace are more than welcome to him. When does this 'mercenaries' type comment end and when do we start to get worried that players we are linked with appear to be choosing other clubs over Leicester. I never had Campbell as a 'mercenary'. What does that word even mean? Is Nick Powell a mercenary, or Gareth Barry or quite a few others we have supposedly been linked with? Would Ulloa be a mercenary if we paid 6/7 mill for him? Or would he not be a mercenary because he joined us? Finally, I presume the striker who's just joined QPR (Icelandic?) is a mercenary? He must be, of course, he's joined QPR.

How are we supposed to convince people, without paying ridiculous amounts, that we're a better option than Palace who performed well in the Premier League last year and have a manager with a great record in this division? It's a shame, but I don't see why someone choosing Palace over us should worry us.
Robin JD Popley Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 I mean it in the sense he appeared more bothered about his wage than destination Col. I don't particularly like the term myself but I can't think of a better word for it? Yes, he has no prior affiliation to us so we shouldn't naturally assume we are to sign him above others, but it did seem he was keen on the move but wouldn't accept the monetary terms we were offering him. If Palace are willing to match his current wage which is rumoured to be near £40,000 then by all means - let them.

So its nothing to with us not paying him enough money then..obviously nigel didn't sell our club to him very well compared to pulis... campbell must think palace are far better club then..fair enough.

Just going off on a tangent though, I don't think we have credited Albrighton enough for the way in which he came to us. As a free agent, he and his representatives could have played the "game" and touted his services all over the place looking for a top deal somewhere. In his interview he said that as soon as Leicester expressed an interest and he spoke to Nigel Pearson, he wanted the deal to be concluded as quickly as possible. All was done and dusted in a few days. Pearson has subsequently commented on how self-motivated he has been in training. I think that is the kind of chap we're after.

It appears that he wanted to join Leicester, because he wanted to join Leicester.. I like him already.
TJB-fox Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Guranteed to bag against us then this season, it's the Leicester way
Itsthejoeker Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 I'll buy a pint for whoever finds an official statement/quote confirming we have a wage cap.
Thracian Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Sounds like NP already did that, Campbell close to joining Palace apparently. And another one bites the dust.......

Bert Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Well with us signing Ulloa (seemingly) and Campbell going to Palace, and this thread going mad off track. It's time it was closed.
