Babylon Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 I thought Pearson said we wouldn't have heard of the players he was after? What's changed? People taking a throw away comment literally.
Nick Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 We'll all sit here at the start of the season with half a dozen new signings wondering what we were all worried about. God I hope so because as we all know, there's no hindsight transfer options in the Prem. I genuinely think we'll sign at least four more players.
smudger63 Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Personally i would have liked this to happen, because i think he would have been good competition for Vardy, but if it`s right that he wanted top dollar wages, that would have been above what we are paying our other top players, then i think we would be right to say no, in my opinion. There are certain players that i would like to think we would happily push the boat out that little bit further for, but Campbell isn`t one of them, not for me anyway.

I don't think he would have sat on the bench for the team if he wasn't picked in the starting XI.
Thracian Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Who cares, we know by now it's not worth chasing i.e Nicky Maynard, forget and move on. Their is no value in the English game, especially for strikers. They either cost ridiculous over priced amounts, or either demand a higher wage salary. Ulloa for example, Brighton holding out for £10 million is ridiculous, Dwight Gayle last season going for about £5 million was strange, I'd love it if we took a punt on Britt Assombolonga, but he'd probably cost £5-6 million as well. If we go looking abroad, fans will then say, well he isn't proven in the English game, like a lot of players their is a lot of risk involved, they will either be good or either be bad, it's a chance we may have to take. Anything you really want is worth chasing - be it a player, a woman or a trip up the Amazon. Sometimes the bigger the want, the harder it is to attain but that doesn't mean giving up at the first signs of setbacks. Didn't someone sign for Steve Bruce because he went back (in person) time and again? I don't know what Ulloa is worth or whether he's good enough. But I do know that if I wanted to sign him, I'd never give up until the opportunity was gone. Neither on him nor anyone else.
CosbehFox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Well, you rubbished our chances last year and we did ok. Perhaps they are good enough, nobody on here knows if they are or not. It seems like people want to load the squad with players just in case they aren't.... I fall into the same trap as well. You look at Hull last year and the team that was doing well at the start of the year only really contained three new signings. Davies, Huddlestone and Livermore. They went up with a considerably worse team than we did, they had 23 points less than we did, scored 22 goals less and conceded 9 more. Perhaps we don't need strengthening as much as we all think. My worry is the lack of a new left back. A position we were just about getting away with in the Championship.

But then that £10 million could be the difference of greatness or failure, splashing that kind of amount if always a scary thought. You can chase & chase, but at the end of the day, sometimes you have to give that chase up, that Maynard debacle did us no favours & took the micky. This Ulloa business is kind of going in the same direction.

kingfox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 They are totally different. Bristol didn't want to sell full stop. Brighton have put a stupid price tag on his head. The longevity is going in the same direction is what I'm trying to say. Whether Bristol didn't want to sell, whether Brighton are holding out for a ridiculous amount, the time scale has been very similar. Bristol didn't really want to sell, yet we still chased, Brighton have been kind of similar, they don't really want to sell hence the ridiculous price tag, yet we still chased, probably up until this point. Like with Campbell now, forget & move on, would not surprise me if we turn our attentions to Andy Delort after this.
Dr The Singh Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 I don't think anyone was knocking one out, merely getting a striker for £800k seemed a bit of a steal given the outlay for a player of similar quality. Now we look elsewhere, and find someone who wants to play for the team, not play merely for his wallet. I was, Thracian was and so was TBJS!! 22 pages later and...... Come on guys, you gotta see the funny side!!
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Of course it could also be that Pearson has met Campbell and did not like what he saw and heard from him. We all know Pearson can be bloody minded about a player if he takes a dislike or perhaps Pearson felt that he was not worth the wages he was demanding. Either way after last season I'm going to trust Pearson from now on with his judgement.
glen parva fox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Time to move on, remember Pearson saying he only wanted players who wanted to play for the club, look like the money is more important
Tuna Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Time to move on, remember Pearson saying he only wanted players who wanted to play for the club, look like the money is more important Yes, true and he isn't that much better than what we have. Plenty of fish in the sea and all that.

Reading info from a few Peterborough fans, they don't think Assambolonga is anywhere near Premiership quality yet. Would be a massive risk.
kingfox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Reading info from a few Peterborough fans, they don't think Assambolonga is anywhere near Premiership quality yet. Would be a massive risk. Anybody will be a risk, unless you take them for around £1 million like we would of done with Campbell. Anything over our current transfer record, will be seen as risky. Fans are like can't we just break our transfer record, yet that player who breaks that, could just be as bad as Akinbiyi.
MrandMrsF Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 What I don't understand is in the simple world of transfer negotiations, you would think the first question from both Agent and club would be:- "How much is he looking for ?". Save a lot of time and media bollocks. Simples
dave_the_fox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 How do We know he wants more money? Maybe he would be signed if Nugent went? As it looks as though Nugent has signed his New contract we have decided against signing campbell

muzzy1981 Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Don't believe everything you read in the papers, might not just be to do with wages. Perhaps he didn't show the ambition and desire when big nige met him. He's got a pretty poor goal scoring record. Would prefer Wickham still young enough for nige to whip into shape Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 We'll all sit here at the start of the season with half a dozen new signings wondering what we were all worried about. Going to keep that one in the locker and quote you on that later.
