Fraizer Campbell

Well we know who's guaranteed a goal or two against us next season should he sign for Palace.

Could we not just pay him £40k a week and not tell the other players?

Don't they just give a massive signing on fee and pay them the same as the others per week.

hardly "frightened off" better expressed as "unwilling to be held to ransom by a bench warmer/ squad player's deluded agent's aspirations"

This decision is absolutely right in my opinion- we have been signing up players on long term deals why jeopardise the spirit to accommodate him - hope palace tell him the same but I bet they don't . It's certain that clubs with inequitable pay structures and differentials are making rods for their own back and undermining the team spirit

Something doesn't quite add up to me:

If we have bid £7 million for Ulloa, and Campbell would have cost £800K, the difference is £6.2 million.

There are 156 weeks in 3 years, £6.2 million divided by 156 is £39,743 (basically £40K per week).

So we could sign Campbell on a 3 year contract on the £40K he wants before we even pay Ulloa a penny in wages?

i suspect he wants a huge signing on fee plus the 40k wages. he knows 800k isnt a realistic price for him.

lol 40k, if people like Drinkwater arent on that much then he can get focked

The sad thing is some club in the premier league will be willing to pay him 40k a week and he will get his deal.

Thing is, it's not that we can't afford it, it's just we don't want to pay over the odds!

if it all goes bandy and you get relegated you are left trying to off load players on £40k a week on to other clubs or more likely carry on paying their wages out of your dwindling resources

Most clubs have relegation clauses these days where wages drop by x amount and there's often a release cause where the player can leave for a bargain price.

yes that would certainly make sense

A Balanced wage structure is better for all round moral in the squad. Everyone on similar basic salaries with top up bonuses being paid for appearances in the team , league position,so much for wins and draws. Number of goals scored per game.

2,3,4,5 goals bringing higher bonuses.

How far in the Cups you go and a percentage bonus should we be lucky to win any trophies.

This way everyone knows where they stand at the start of the season and strive for results throughout as it put's more money in there pockets.

This system ensures they should all work for each other and if they fail then they all suffer the same loss.

I understand the need to keep everything harmonious, but IF we do really well next season and want to build on that, surely the caliber of player we will want to be signing will be on upwards of £40k a week, so what do we do? Offer everyone like Danny, Matty, Kasper et al a new more lucrative contract as well? It obviously makes sense now, but being (doesn't seem it) optimistic and hoping we do well over the coming years, if we want to compete we'll have to pay bigger wages.

If we do well and stay in the Prem then it's a whole new scenario . We can then look after our established players that kept us up and still have parity with new players signing on fees and wages. It really is vital that we stay up.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself, just a thought.

They could have already thought about this and put in a percentage increase for year on year survival in the prem? Would certainly help average out the distorted wages that higher quality would bring, as our own ambitions increase, without renegotiating every year.

It's one season at a time, But all success should be incentive led and not salary led. Otherwise we'll end up with more Logans, Gally's and Beckfords.

While were fighting relegation saddled with expensive misfits and and end up like Wolves.

We're a long way from competing with the M/cs and Chelsea's of the transfer market. That doesn't mean we cannot compete on the pitch though.

Consolidation and slow progress is better than throwing money at it hoping for the right results. Surely Taylor and Sven has taught us that lesson.

I've every confidence Pearson will get it right and we can become the new Southampton or Everton of the premiership. With modest spending but still managing to be competitive.

There are players I'd be happy if we went to £40k for. Fraizer Campbell is not one of them.

Happy ?? There is not a player anywhere worth £40k a week.

I think genuine quality of the kind which would categorically represent an improvement is worth paying for, but Campbell's proved nothing and given no indications that he's any better than we've already got.

If all this is true, then probably the right call. He isn't the player we want to break a wage-structure for, (if we actually do have one). However, he is a lot of player for less than a million and we won't easily find his level of performance elsewhere at that price or someone who is willing to join the 'relegation favourites'.

Posted

How are we relegation favourites? Surely you would get a good return on your cash if we DO go down... All the teams who finished on 100 points have stayed up!
