Yep, going Palace. Back page of mercury tomorrow

Sadly it's hard to compete with teams who have shown they can survive the league, especially with someone like Pullis who has done an exceptional job.

QPR seem to be doing alright if they snare Caulker

I love London. I'd like to live in one of the suburbs and be able to jump on a tube to get in whenever I fancied.

Won't happen of course.. ridiculously expensive

Tell me about it. My one bed flat in Wimbledon costs me £1250 a month before bills. Could get a 5 bed house back in Leics. Moving back in a few months after 6 years down here, sad times.

Tanner saying on twitter this looks dead now.

What's slightly worrying from Tanners recent tweet is we seem to be focusing solely on a striker, as in that's all we're after. If that's the case I fail to see how we're going to make a real fist of survival with this squad. The back-up is appalling. I always feared Pearson thinks too highly of this squad and he's going to underestimate the beast of the PL, I hope I'm wrong.

We need at least 4 new players better than what we've currently got.

Nice, just pre ordered the new shirt with his name on the back then.

Not sure why you would get a journalists name in a shirt but each to their own.

We must be careful here.

We must attract players, I am afraid players are attracted by pay cheques.

F*** 'em, if all he is concerned with is his paycheck then he clearly isn't needed here regardless of what talent he has.

As for Wickham, he's not signing a contract at Sunderland, but we don't know the reasons why, it might related to the amount, but it also might be the future plans for the club etc. It could be a dozen different factors. He might be tired of the North East.

Seems a bit unrealistic to have all players on or about the same wages. In any Prem team there will be considerable differences in wages that is the reality and it's understood by players and agents alike , so why are we trying to be like a co-op collective ?

We really do need to wake up to the reality of life in the Prem if we are to stand a chance of staying up. Wages are relative to staying up. If you pay a top player a million or more a year in wages and his input kept you up it's chicken feed compared to the 60 million minimum just to hang on in there. We have been out of the top flight too long and the signings and attitude of the club so far is just proving our naivety

Before I get accused of being a pessimist I can assure you I'm not I love my club and always will and think we will stop up , but I still have this feeling we are being over confident in the squad we have got and think we need to strengthen it with at least four prem class players , and if that means paying big wages then so be it . To lose out on a player like Campbell because of wages considering we would be getting him for peanuts seems absolutely absurd .

lol FFS, so many people have been wanking themselves over a mediocre prem player signing for us..........and guess what????...... he bumps us!!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone was knocking one out, merely getting a striker for £800k seemed a bit of a steal given the outlay for a player of similar quality. Now we look elsewhere, and find someone who wants to play for the team, not play merely for his wallet.

Firstly you are presuming someone else has actually bid for him, secondly we aren't going to throw money around like QPR.

Shouldn't we be applauding the Club for a relatively sensible approach to wages?

There are endless complaints about the ridiculous amounts of money involved in football fees and wages, but when a club tries to take a slightly different approach they get criticised for lacking the ambition required for the Premier League

Well, you rubbished our chances last year and we did ok. Perhaps they are good enough, nobody on here knows if they are or not. It seems like people want to load the squad with players just in case they aren't.... I fall into the same trap as well.

You look at Hull last year and the team that was doing well at the start of the year only really contained three new signings. Davies, Huddlestone and Livermore. They went up with a considerably worse team than we did, they had 23 points less than we did, scored 22 goals less and conceded 9 more. Perhaps we don't need strengthening as much as we all think.

Another reason to get scouting abroad then, you don't get enough value for money with english players unless you're signing a James/Drinkwater, players who have yet to play at the top level.

I thought Pearson said we wouldn't have heard of the players he was after? What's changed?

I agree I think we're about there tbh.

All we need is a left back, cover for right back, a striker or two and maybe a young hungry right winger to keep some pressure on Albrighton.

We'll all sit here at the start of the season with half a dozen new signings wondering what we were all worried about. lol

Who cares, we know by now it's not worth chasing i.e Nicky Maynard, forget and move on.

Their is no value in the English game, especially for strikers. They either cost ridiculous over priced amounts, or either demand a higher wage salary.

Ulloa for example, Brighton holding out for £10 million is ridiculous, Dwight Gayle last season going for about £5 million was strange, I'd love it if we took a punt on Britt Assombolonga, but he'd probably cost £5-6 million as well.

If we go looking abroad, fans will then say, well he isn't proven in the English game, like a lot of players their is a lot of risk involved, they will either be good or either be bad, it's a chance we may have to take.
