basically guys, the sound has ballsed up on my laptop.

Volume not on mute

restarted my laptop

i've tried re-installing the drivers so not sure what else to do....

so any idea's?

The only thing i have done is install service pack 2 last night with windows updates, so i kinda think it could be to do with that.

DB11 the floor is yours son

Hi,

1. Run the Microsoft fix it tool for the Sound issues after installing SP2 using the following link,

http://go.microsoft....?linkid=9668690

2. Uninstall the sound driver from the device manager.

3) Do a power cycle on your computer.

Unplug all the devices and remove the battery from the laptop.

Then wait for30 seconds, insert the battery, turn on the computer

then check with the issue.

If the problem still persist get back to Micrsofot Windows Chat using the following link,

https://support.micr...14&gsaid=582034

Regards,

Sag

Microsoft Vista.

Hope that helps.

This might be worth a read My link

Thanks Smudge, by the time I read your post this morning I'd solved it myself, but cheers anyway.

Using the much neglected part of my brain that's responsible for logic and problem solving I wondered what could possibly make two mp3 files different from each other and could affect why one works and one doesn't, and the only thing I could think of that I could actually check is the information in the ID3 tags. As it turns out, there's a lot of superfluous crap stored in the Amazon ones (cover art, genre, reference numbers, even composer and so forth) other than what you actually need (title, track no etc) and when I stripped this out and re-saved it, hey presto, they suddenly work.

I was quite pleased with myself, I can tell you

Out of interest, is there a quick way of doing that or did you have to do that for each and every track?

I was just pleased that I could do it, to be honest, and I don't mind because we're talking about only a dozen or so files in this case, but yes, I'm having to do this for every track. Come on IT boffins, get yourselves on it.

I only have to do this on the Amazon mp3s - I use EAC and LAME to rip mp3s from CD and these contain minimal tag info and I never have any problems with them

Highlight all of the songs, hold CTRL + I, tick the boxes of the fields you want to edit for all of the songs (unticked fields will remain as what they are) and then delete the information.

That's if you're doing it in iTunes.

Pretty easy to do. Which operating system are you running?

Although if it's the true administrator then you can't delete that, but you have to edit some settings. Without knowing which OS you have though I can't say how to do it! A quick Google search will help - "auto log on to user account" or something.

Right, I didn't know if I should post this here or the 'can my computer run this game' thread but I am going to post it right here...

I have obviously had football manager 2011 since the day it come out last year, and I've had this problem since I purchased it and although it has always got on my nerves, it was never as bad as what it is now:

FOOTBALL MANAGER 2011 LAGS!! & I PLAY IT ON THE 2D PITCH!!

Why is this?

The requirments for the game are:

Windows 7 - Got it.

CPU 2GHz or faster - 2GHz, so got it.

Supported CPU's - AMD Athlon - got it.

Memory - 1GB - got 2GB installed.

HD Space - 2GB - got it.

Optical drive - 4x speed - got it.

Video card - 128mb - not sure because mine are integrated.

Now, I've tried:

Installed new video card driver - didn't fix the problem.

Installed new memory - didn't fix the problem.

I'm not sure what else to do!! Please help.

Why does it lag so much? And respond so slowly? Its horrible.

I'm considering buying a new PC just because of this problem, or buying a new graphics card for the system but I don't want to spend loads on a new graphics card just for the problem still to persist.

Alright MPH,

Don't think Live Chat ws the best place to try and offer you advice last night :P, so I've been looking and came up with a few things. Mainly this;

Q, Can I purchase the full OEM version of windows 7 , bootup to that disk, format, and then install the OEM version of Windows 7 on my computer that's now running windows Vista Ultimate?

A, Yes, but you must do a custom clean install, you can't do an in place upgrade with OEM.

Back up your files and settings. To avoid losing anything you'll need to save copies of all the files, photos, and other information you want to keep on to an external hard drive. Windows Easy Transfer (http://windows.micro...s-easy-transfer ) is a free tool you can use.

Did you buy an upgrade kit or the full operating system, if the latter then by the looks of things your going to have to format and clean install 7.

On what basis, did you came to that conclusion?

Personal preference. That, and it's the tool of choice at the local computer repair shop I work at.

I wasn't happy with my anti-virus program installed on my computer so I went out and bought a new one. I installed the new one but cannot seem to get shot of the old one. I've tried several times to remove it through Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall a Program but the fecker won't go.

Any suggestions?

Well what is your old one? Most have a "removal tool" on their web site (NB: Do NOT download a 'removal tool' if it's not from the manufacturers web site as most likely be a virus. Unless it's a reputable site obv)

The one that I want to remove is AVG.
