theessexfox Posted 15 June 2014 Posted 15 June 2014 Went ballistic at Sterling's early effort, took everyone ages to realise it hadn't gone in. First time I can remember feeling relatively optimistic about an England loss - gutted at the result but thought we showed full effort, ambition and promise. People are scapegoating Welbeck (who played brilliantly, especially first half) and Baines (who had a lot to cope with; when you're playing on the biggest stage, something like allowing a cross in which ends up in the net is so heavily criticised and scrutinised, it's such a minor mistake that no one would have considered if it hadn't resulted in a goal - fine margins.), but I thought everyone played fairly well. Itally are tactically brilliant and are very good on the ball, not great going forward but a very good team. It's no shame to lose to them. You can't watch that and say Gerrard is better than Pirlo. Sure, we should have got tighter to him, but he is on another planet. I wouldn't start Rooney, great cross but he's not involved enough for England and would rather Sterling or Barkley in the number 10 role - he can't play out wide. Gerrard and Henderson were anonymous but did a lot of unseen work, their job doesn't entail seeing loads of the ball necessarily. Why is Phil Neville being lambasted? I thought it was G Nev until I saw him on the bench and I thought he was equally as competent as his brother, no problem whatsoever. Hart - 7 - Fairly composed and dominant Johnson - 6 - Didn't do too badly Jagielka - 6 - Coped alright Cahill - 6 - Composed, maybe could have prevented the second Baines - 6 - Wasn't as awful as he was made out to be Gerrard - 6 - Could've got closer to their midfield Henderson - 6 - See Gerrard Welbeck - 7 - Great energy and very bright Sterling - 8 - Magnificent talent, so exciting Rooney - 6 - Anonymous bar the assit Sturridge - 7 - Good finish, some good play Encouraging but disappointing, we can do this!

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 15 June 2014 Posted 15 June 2014 Hart was worht 6/10 for me, did **** up in the first half and was saved by Jags on the line
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 15 June 2014 Posted 15 June 2014 Well he fell to the side for the first goal rather than dived for it. The only save I remember him making was straight at him and he spilled it 10 yards in front of him but luckily a defender was there to get it rather than a France player (things like this get forgotten when it's cleared up, but could so easily of cost us a goal) and when he rushed out to Mario he was happy to just stand well out of position for what seemed like an age and luckily Jags was very alert. So he made 2 huge errors which he was lucky to get away with and though that first goal was good it wasn't unstoppable. Looked very shaky to me.
theessexfox Posted 15 June 2014 Posted 15 June 2014 Absolute crap, why are people so irrationally negative about England? Couldn't have got near the first, collected anything from crosses or balls over the top with command and control. He held up Balotelli and, admittedly luckily for him, he was slightly bailed out by Jags. He was far from shaky in my view.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 15 June 2014 Posted 15 June 2014 Yeah he collected a few crosses(unchallenged, mind), but he's an international goalkeeper, if he isn't doing that then something is wrong, IMO the starting National and Premier League winning goalkeeper should be doing the routine things as second nature. The only other save of note he made should of been routine and he made an absolute hash of it. I don't think tarring me with the 'all England fans are so negative' brush really detracts from the fact that he looked incredibly unsure on more than one occasion. He had very little to do and what he did was far from convincing.

theessexfox Posted 15 June 2014 Posted 15 June 2014 I'm not having this not being a very elaborate wind up. He's definitely the cleverest on here, no doubt about it.

Jimothy Posted 15 June 2014 Posted 15 June 2014 I'm not having this not being a very elaborate wind up.I'm not having he's a wind up, I genuinely just think he's a bit simple. He's makes too many grammatical errors to be clever enough to be that good as WUM.Unless he's doing that to fool us into believing he's real.......

Not normally a grammar Nazi but calling someone out for using bad grammar with even worse grammar is... Well, abnormal.

CosbehFox Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Sterlings goal would have stood in the Bundesliga. Pathetic officiating
Haydos Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 'Grandad' has been pretty quiet after Gerrard was again outshone by Pirlo, wasn't he posting constantly in the run up to the game? Interesting to hear what he thinks.

Interesting to hear what he thinks. I've not re-watched the game yet, saying that I don't think I will. I can't remember any of the game bar Sterling's shot, Sturridge scoring, Gerrard's wasted free kick near the end and Rooney's corner. Not going to make many comments on the game, sounds like we didn't play badly, sounds like we again gave Pirlo too much space and time, not that he did anything to make him the world class footballer everyone thinks he is, Gerrard didn't seem to have control of the game like he does for Liverpool, think that is partly down to the formation.. Actually I can remember Welbeck being bright, looking to attack and seemed to do well enough to play v Uruguay. I remember waking up and seeing Rooney played for 90 minutes, painful. On to Uruguay we go. I still wouldn't have Pirlo over Steven Gerrard. Sorry if you don't like that opinion, by all means stick me on ignore if you can't deal with that.

Same, definitely had too many beers to remember it properly. Your opinion doesn't bother me, just wanted to see what you made of it as he clearly had a very solid game. Uruguay should be beaten.

The opinion part wasn't aimed to you mate, directed towards the GingerFox who reminds me of Adrian Durham when he posts and I don't care what anyone says, he is definitely a closet Man United fan but that's a different debate for another day. I'm hearing Henderson had a solid game as well? Worrying how much I can't remember.
