wight88 Posted 27 June 2014 Author Posted 27 June 2014 What on earth are you basing that on? The probability that we will finish above them next season
Bryn Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 Probability as opposed to your opinion? What factors make this probable?
Dan Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 I can't imagine how Burnley will be better than us next year. QPR are a funny one. They aren't scared to go out and buy a big name but they rarely seem to succeed for them. That could go either way. Hopefully negative. West Brom I think we'll come above. Aston Villa I think we'll come above. Funny one that again - but Joe Cole & Senderos? Is that seriously the calibre of player they're going for? Not exactly the sort of signings I'd expect a club going forward to make. I know people will say the same with us and Upson but I genuinely think him and Albrighton (ironically) are better signings than those two. Lets not forget the negative air surrounding Villa at the minute. I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility for Newcastle or West Ham to have a very weak season either. Like Villa, their fans are disgruntled, their team doesn't perform to it's potential and I could see both having a managerial change. Allardyce looks to be trying a more expansive game next year - will it be well out of his comfort zone? Time will tell. Newcastle are an absolute circus and I genuinely wouldn't be shocked if they were relegated. Their form since Cabaye's gone is atrocious. Sunderland are still an unknown quantity as well IMO and I'm not convinced Palace will be as good as last year either. Hull have the Europa League as a distraction (look at how most clubs of their size tend to perform when in that). I'll be very surprised if we come above Southampton. I think they've made a very decent appointment and have money to spend. They'll stay around midtable. As will Stoke who I think were criminally under-rated last season. Far better side on the eye and finished 9th despite being largely tipped to go down. Swansea I think will come above us. Very decent side who no longer have the Europa League to worry about.
Fox92 Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 Again, there's no logic behind this. Lets be honest, like most/all of us, you'll have only seen us on a regular basis so I don't get how people can then try and compare. I might say we should try and win our home games against teams such as Hull and Swansea but would I go as far as saying we'll be finishing above them? No. Southampton are a good side, Hull are a good side etc. None of the teams have played a game yet, not everyone has finished in the transfer market yet, there's a long way to go and we have no right to finish above any team.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 Again.. wait until you see what the respective squads look like. Then make an informed decision. The season can't start soon enough. Some threads recently have been borne out of bored minds.
Super hoop Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 Much too early to say yet. Hull have already spent bucket loads with, it seems, more arriving next week. As for us, we haven't signed a single player yet and with, for example, only one striker on our books for next season, I've no idea what our 25 will be, so impossible to assess
Corky Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 Southampton are in no trouble at all. Got players coming through the Academy, a strong remaining first team despite the departures and plenty of money in the bank to use if required.
Grewks Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 Burnley and QPR are the only ones you can justify us finishing above. All the other clubs have more experience and arguably financial muscle. Palace have pulis, hull have two good experienced premier league strikers, west ham have the uninspiring but proven big sam, villa's youngsters will be getting more experienced, sunderland finished excellently, newcastle under pardew are boring but sound, swansea play a brand of football which can cause many a side problems and West brom will be a unknown quantity. We need to stay up, that is all.

Ric Flair Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 With the current squad probably only Burnley, West Brom and probably QPR. Squeaky 'arris.
Stadt Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 BURNLEY HAVE SIGNED KIGHTLY FO,R A UNDUSCLOSED FEE WE ATE BEING LEFT BEGING SO WE WILL BE RELEGATED BY XMAS. SEASON OVER PEARSON OUT
Leeds_Fox95 Posted 29 June 2014 Posted 29 June 2014 Seeing Southampton, Hull, West Ham and Swansea being banded about is very very bold. They are all very very very solid lower half premier league teams. We would have to have 1 hell of a season to finish above all this teams. Fair enough they won't take points off the big sides but you can bet they'll be near enough nailed on to take points off the teams around us. For me, no matter how good our midfield is or whatever we aren't on the same level as Southampton (even if they do loose a few players they will still be a strong side) West Ham, Hull and Swansea. I think these are the teams we need to try and replicate. Palace are similar, they looked like a proper top flight outfit with Pulis at the end of last season. If we stay up, there's no reason we can't be put in to the same bracket as these sides, but at the minute, I don't think we're quite there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hull were a championship side that lost a third of the matches of the season 2 years ago and stayed up due to the bottom half last season being a much of muchness and all a bit crap. I'd expect us to finish above the maulers.

wight88 Posted 29 June 2014 Author Posted 29 June 2014 Most of the aforementioned sides we would reasonably have expected to have beaten in the FA cup last season and with stats of 8/9 wins from 38 games are more accustomed to getting turned over as opposed to a Leicester side that's spent 6 consecutive seasons in and around the top six. Regardless of the level winning becomes a mindset as much as losing and I see no logical reason for us to go to the opposite extreme. Swansea Southampton and west brom all have new managers none of who most city fans would want to touch with a bargepole despite what any smart arses on here may try and argue. Pardew and fat sam are both lame ducks that know the p45s have been printed and signed but not yet dated. Hull palace burnley and QPR are our realistic peers that we will be fired up to put one over on. Villa aren't far off emulating the Geordies and the hammers. If/when nige bolsters the squad further and maintains the cracking team spirit and energy there is every reason to presume we can replicate our form of 97-00 in this league.
