3 Year Contract For Morgan!

Was going to ask you to explain what you mean, then realised Suarez will be playing in Spain next season!

Are you joking? Although that's true that isn't the point. The point is that every bloody defender in the game gets mugged off by your Suarezs and Agueros.

Don't agree, but we shall see.

Look at Distin. 36 years old and still going strong at Everton. Defenders make up for a lack of pace with positioning, awareness and reading of the game. Morgan is very much in the Distin mould, although not as good.

Not convinced he'll be a success at top level but deserves a decent contract.

If he is not good enough why does he deserve a decent contract.

For what he did last season?

Like the rest of the players he was paid well for that.

No player deserves a contract if they are not good enough we are not running a local village shop.

No room for sentiment in this game any more and players don't earn a few hundred quid.

personally glad it's sorted and think he will do a good job for us.

I also think we have been very lucky with our out of contract players our owners played a dangerous game with the new contracts.

We risked loosing half our first choice players and as much as we have kept them all we could have lost them all.

Good news on Wes' deal. His leadership will be important next season and we all know with Wes we are highly likely to get solid, consistent performances. Important contract to get signed up imo.

You don't need pace unless you play a high line where you leave space behind the centre backs. If you have slow centre backs (and ours aren't particularly slow) then you have to adapt how you shape up to allow for that

Shocked at 3 years he's to slow for the premier league

Ever watched Per Mertesacker before?

You'd think Wes was geriatric the way people go on. He's not even that slow.

Three seems a hell of a lot considering the refusal to give Dyer a two year.

Not really as Wes is 1 year younger, a better player and doesn't rely on pace.

Taggart and Elliot were not the fastest.

As someone has said if you can read the game and as long as you keep mistakes to a minimum you don't need to be lightening quick.

Plus you may see they work one to one on his pace pre season.

Also teams in the prem play clever football they won't be throwing balls forward like last season.

They will all know we break quick so will play probing football most won't want to take us on in an end to end game.

Like last season we will allow teams to come on to us so we can hit on the break.

Why as much as I love Dyer he is a one trick pony.

Once his pace has gone at this level he's had it.

Big risk at this level to give him a long contract.

FFS Morgan, our captain, has probably had the season of his life for us last season, been an absolute rock at the heart of our defence for us and helped us become champions of the Championship and back into the PL and now people are questioning his ability saying he's this and that.

Some people on here make me laugh. He's been immense for us since moving here from Forest, he deserves his chance in the PL along with the rest of the squad. Get off his back.

2 years isn't really that long and last season he proved that he's more than just a one trick pony. I'm not really questioning Dyer not getting a renewal, just find it odd the three year after refusing to give a guy similar to his age a two year. I guess it shows how much Nige and co value him at the club, it came as a shock because I could have sworn Wes got an extension in April.

He will have a torrid time in the Premiership. Far too slow.

Very worrying, imo. Hope he will only be used as cover.

How many fast centre-backs are there in the Premier League right now and how many out of those are actually any good?

I can count maybe a handful, and that's about it. And David Luiz is heading for Paris St. Germain, as well.

I'd have been more excited about this news this time last year. Immense first season has been followed up by some very suspect performances. Hope he ups his game for the Premier League.

Found it hard to get behind him since i was with alot of Forest mates in a pub and he told them all he'd leave us for any Prem club at the time. He's a red :(

Have to agree with this. Where as Dyer has just had the season of his life and looking in superb condition, the best condition hes ever been in, Morgan wasnt as good last yer and out of the two is the one showing more signs of decline.

We are entitled to our opinion, just like you are, geezer, so on yer bike.

My biggest concern with Wes is how he often he grabs players and it largely went unnoticed at championship level; I fear he'll get caught out doing it next season.

Shawcross and Skrtel amongst others constantly get away with that so you shouldn't worry too much about that.

I don't know where this whole "Wes is really slow" idea has come from but he's really not. When I hear "slow defenders" I think of players like Demichelis, Mertesacker, Van Buyten etc... Wes isn't quick but he's actually relatively sprightly for a CB. His positioning is also very good so I feel he doesn't have too much to worry about!

Do not understand all this nonsense about how he is not up for it etc.

With a good coach and the right tactical setup many defenders can succeed at any level. I hardly anticipate Pearson asking big wes to play a high line against the likes of aguero etc.

He is no slower than the likes of Shawcross, gabbidon or Fonte, but all proved to be decently effective over the past few years under the guidance of pulis and pocchettino (SP?).

Remember not only was Pearson a defender, but he was a defender and captain at a club featuring the likes of juninho and ravanelli, Pearson would have been defending against these players every day. He knows what we will be up against and clearly believes Morgan will be adequate.

Lastly, don't forget the importance of team spirit. Playing with a very similar side to the one which won promotion has certainly benefited promoted sides recently, and the sole reason QPR and cardiff fell short of southampton and hull success.

in my opinion the prem is just as lenient on the pushing and shoving as the championship.

after every single game on match of the day you always hear 'It is a foul, but if the ref gave it we would be stopping the game every 10 seconds'.
