Guest Col city fan Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Which, of the current squad, do you think are going to do very well in the Prem? Football is strange and some that we may think will shine, may struggle and vice-verca. Personally, I'm expecting Jeff Schlupp, Mahrez and Moore to all look very good. Conversely, I believe that Knocky and, maybe surprisingly, DeLaet, to find it difficult to make the step up. Who do you think is going to be good, and make the grade quickly and who do you think might find the going more tough. The start of the season ain't too far off ( and of course there might be more additions) so what do people think? My reasons for Knocky are lack of pace and DeLaet.. I don't think he's that strong.. He might get muscled off somewhat. Opinions please, giving reasons if you wish to.
Soar Fox Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 James, Drinkwater and Mahrez will adapt the best I think. Vardy will be a nuisance for defenders as he won't stop ruining and his pace will scare them. Though I only expect him to get between 5 & 10 goals, which I think personally will be a good return. Schluup, Morgan and Nugent will struggle IMO. If we play Jeff at left back i'll expect teams will identify him as the weak link within 20 minutes and target that area. He looked shaky at the best of times when up against a half decent winger in the championship.
Jaspa Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Lets not write off players before theyve had a go first. You cant say 100% obvs, but Knocky/Mahrez can do something special in any match and all you need is one or two special moments and people will be raving about them again. Kasper has got the pedigree and is a good international player. James/Drinky have something to prove groing up with Manchester and have had faith shown in them by the club with their new deals. We could have a gem or two hiding away somewhere that need the atmosphere of the Prem to shine right. We'll see, its all yet to happen
DennisNedry Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Kasper and our defence will cope in the main, except against the highest quality teams who could run us ragged. I think Knocky and Mahrez will get frustrated and lose the ball a lot trying to do too much. I reckon Drinkwater and James will slot straight in as though they've played there for years Nugent and maybe Vardy too will struggle and probably not score many goals.
Dan Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 The ones I'm most confident in; Drinkwater - His style will be pretty hard to adapt in a very fast paced league, but I think he's got it in him to adapt to it. If he can be as effective in controlling games as he has been in the Championship then he'll continue to be a valuable asset to us and maybe even England one day. James - I've said it elsewhere and I'll leave it to someone with greater knowledge/eye for detail than myself - but can someone please tell me a weakness to his game? He's got it all. Mahrez - Quality winger who I believe can play for a side in Europe one day. Fantastic dribbler, great vision and deceptively strong too. De Laet - Very good going forward and always improving defensively too IMO. I think he'll make a competent Premier League full-back. Schmeichel - Excellent shot stopper and I can see him turning in a few big displays for us next year. He's far from faultless, but I can see him frustrating some of the big boys in the style he frustrated England for Denmark. Vardy - He's gone from strength to strength and I think a raise in level will help him improve even further. Knockaert - Quality player, not as much pace as Mahrez but a similar level of skill, with a hell of a lot of energy.

No worries about James and Drinkwater, one concern i would have would ne Knockaert's naivety at times. He needs to be a better decision maker, at times he can be wasteful on the ball and lose possession too cheaply. Also has an unwanted habit of giving away free kicks in dangerous areas to the opposition. If he can cut these aspects out, he can make the step up for me.
Captain... Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 ...to the streets. Seriously though do you guys have nothing better to do with the summer than repeatedly ask and answer the same questions? I'm pretty sure we have analysed and speculated on the capabilities of the entire squad and their suitability for the prem a thousand times already this Summer, and a thousand times before that during last season. It is ok to open foxestalk, see there is no news and close it again without making a new topic.

What's needed now is to get even better quality players around the guys who won us promotion because there's nothing better than having top players around to feed off and inspire improvement. You can probably only start with two or three but even that starts the chain reaction and I'm quite sure that people such as Vardy, Schlupp, Mayrez etc would quickly benefit.
Guest LCFC_World Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Personally I feel Riyad Mahrez will be by far our best player. In fact - i feel he will be so good that we will be struggling to keep hold of him come January. I also expect Vardy to do quite well, but for some reason i don't feel Knockaert will be as good as he has been, but i hope he can prove me wrong.
Guest MattP Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Drinkwater, James, Vardy, Mahrez and De Laet to shine. Slight concern over Nugent, Wasyl and Morgan. Big concern over Schulpp, he was taking apart by decent Championship wingers could be a massacre stepping up.
lgfualol Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Fairly confident in all but the LB's. Schlupp is great but think we need someone else for starters. I also think Knocky may struggle a bit, but still add moments of quality.
Dan Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 I think Schlupp will get better over time but I agree it'd be a huge risk to play him regularly at left back.
teblin Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 I personally think King will have a place next season. We may play 3 in the centre more often and than may mean he get to get foward more often. Drinkwater, James, Mahrez will shine I think Most of the other will be steady enough. Thoughi still think we need a left back.
Corky Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Drinkwater, James, Mahrez and Vardy definitely. The technical ability of the first three will keep improving and Vardy's pace and energy will cause problems. Maybe the top defenders will cope but plenty lower down the league will struggle. De Laet and Schmeichel should do ok, and I fancy an under the radar success to crop up, maybe King, not over 90 minutes each week but to make an impact with crucial goals.
Babylon Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 My main concern is about the back 4, we often got exposed last year and teams missed easy chances. We'll get punished next season for any slip up.

Set-pieces is what i'll be worried about. Kasper doesn't command his box enough for me and we struggled against teams with height. Andy Carroll will have a field day.
foxfanazer Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Drinkwater, James, Vardy and Mahrez Got a feeling Moore could be a big player for us too
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 I think Morgan, Schlupp, De Laet, and Nuge will struggle a bit. James, Moore, Kasper, and Mahrez will cope well with the transition. All a mere opinion though, and probably a little wrong, but we shall soon see.
Silverdaz Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 Set-pieces is what i'll be worried about. Kasper doesn't command his box enough for me and we struggled against teams with height. Andy Carroll will have a field day. Hence why we signed Upson
Silverdaz Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 I think the will al step up thats why I can see us signing only one more player possibly two
Soar Fox Posted 8 July 2014 Posted 8 July 2014 Hence why we signed Upson Then I'd be even more worried if we are starting a 35 year old every week.
