Guest MattP Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Why is it Matt P ? We will win our Qualifying group and it's possible we could make the quarter finals at Euro 2016. Why after 1 bad world cup are you coming up with this ?? Yeah I agree we'll qualify for 2016. 2018 will be a big problem though with a possible second seed and a play off needed for second. Plus it's the poorest group of England players in my lifetime.
Dan Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Not really, over reaction as typical. England will win their Euro qualifying group and be seeded for Euro 16 and will climb back up the rankings. Jesus one bad world cup and your acting like we're Scotland now. You do realise Italy haven't got out of two world cup groups now ... Not over-reacting, just being a realist. I wouldn't expect you to know anything about that though.
The Blur Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Our awful performance in Brazil could well stop us qualifying for Russia in my opinion. This could well be used to our advantage as it may give us the kick up the arse we deserve. Against two sides that we failed to beat in the weeks leading up to the World Cup. Not qualifying for Euro 2008 did not gave us the kick we needed though.
Dan Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Not qualifying for Euro 2008 did not gave us the kick we needed though. Fair point. The only thing that will is if the Premier League bubble bursts - thus forcing us to re-arrange our league structure. Until that happens then any success we have will be a miracle.
The Doctor Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Ok by that logic though, it's like saying Spain and Italy should be seeded lower then Switzerland because they went futher Switzerland got so far in the seedings by playing friendlies against shit teams ... lol - you realise actually that Switzerland were highly seeded for precisely the opposite reason - they didn't drag down their average score by playing friendlies against shit teams.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Is the England side on a downward spiral now which will put us alongside the other British teams like Wales and Scotland? Don't be silly. Scotland and Wales can only dream of playing at the World Cup.
MC Prussian Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Don't be silly. Scotland and Wales can only dream of playing at the World Cup. That may be more the case with Wales, who lack enough depth in squad - Scotland have played on the World stage before, though. However, I would never rule out such a scenario. All depends on the groups they're drawn into and/or an exploit. To put it in a more twisted way: At the current rate, Wales and Scotland are more likely to qualify for a European Championship than England.

MC Prussian Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 I was applying POTM logic. Looking at the table, both England and Wales have a decent chance of going to France in 2016. Wales maybe via playoffs, Scotland could pip Ireland for 2nd spot. England will still finish first in the EC 2016 qualifying group, mind. The question is how convincing that finish is going to turn out.
Bert Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Only England fans could moan that we're higher than we should be in the world rankings. Used to really wind me up that did.
Bert Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 I do considering we may end up in a qualifying group with Germany or Holland for 2018. That said, qualifying via the play-offs would be memorable. Not if we cruise through our euro qualifiers. Which we should.
Marmite Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Not if we cruise through our euro qualifiers. Which we should. Nothing surprises me with England no more, you never know Bert
AyewJoking Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Yeah, why are most of our freindlies against minnows and part timers? they probably give the FA more money to play against a prestigious nation like England, we'd have to pay to take on the good teams.
Thracian Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Quite flattering given the number of nations and the population we have to draw from. I wouldn't back us to beat a cold.
Captain... Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Yeah, why are most of our freindlies against minnows and part timers? Because you get no ranking points if you lose them. The ranking system is rubbish as you will get a much better ranking if you play fewer friendlies, that doesn't mean we should pick friendlies to help our rank though, it means they should change the ranking system.
Grandad. Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Very depressing to see us as the 20th best country in the world, not that I go on these terrible rankings. England should be back amongst the top 9 European sides by next July, when the World Cup seedings are announced, why it is done so early I have no idea. Seedings for qualification are announced 14 months before qualifying even begins. We have 9 games to get us back in the top 9. England v Norway Switzerland v England England v San Marino Estonia v England England v Slovenia Scotland v England England v Lithuania Rep Ireland v England Slovenia v England
Finnegan Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 We should be catching you up by then! Belgium should be our only tough game in qualifying. I really would expect us to beat Bosnia if everyone shows up.
Grandad. Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 We should be catching you up by then! Belgium should be our only tough game in qualifying. I really would expect us to beat Bosnia if everyone shows up. Yeah but in reality Finners, you won't.
Finnegan Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Yeah but in reality Finners, you won't. New dawn #24542. I can feel it.
Bert Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 New dawn #24542. I can feel it.You might finish 4th this time!
Guest MattP Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 We should be catching you up by then! Belgium should be our only tough game in qualifying. I really would expect us to beat Bosnia if everyone shows up. Really? I'd still have Bosnia as comfortable favourites to beat you still. Good side and only missed out on World Cup last 16 due to a horrific referee. I think you'll be in the play offs though.
Finnegan Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 If Bale, Ramsey, Allen and Williams are all fit I'd be disappointed if we didn't beat them at home and at least challenge for a point away. It's time to start performing like the sum of our parts and not bottling every challenging game. Beyond Dzeko they're bobbins. They may be hard working and organised and all of that but there's no reason we can't be too. We've the personnel to come second in that group. No excuses now.
Guest MattP Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Really I think you are a million miles away from Bosnia. They are 3/1 to win the group, Wales are 50/1! Obviously Bale and Ramsey are top notch but I don't think a single other player in the 11 gets into Bosnia's team. I think you're fighting for third with Israel. Which could be a huge bonus now given you might get two home games.
