Merging Cultures Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 The 'what do you think?' Popping up was v annoying. But I'm enjoying your videos. Keep it up.
Mack Posted 15 August 2014 Author Posted 15 August 2014 Thanks for all the feedback, we'll take it on board, and keep trying to improve. We are going to be filming tomorrow outside Kazkazini bar (the one next to the Holiday inn by King Power) around 1:45pm before the game, and then again right after full time in the same spot. We'll be looking to get passing fans involved so please do come and say hello and get involved.
PerfumePonce Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 If you really wanted to add some professionalism and interest you could invest in a cheap drone to take aerial footage and create some really cool camera angles. You can pick them up cheap these days... Just remember less is more so don't go too over the top! Thanks for all the feedback, we'll take it on board, and keep trying to improve. We are going to be filming tomorrow outside Kazkazini bar (the one next to the Holiday inn by King Power) around 1:45pm before the game, and then again right after full time in the same spot. We'll be looking to get passing fans involved so please do come and say hello and get involved. Nice work, however I'm in agreement with the others that having a studio/base would be the way forward. With that you could mic up with lapels or a multi-directional mic. The microphone switching gives it too much of a 'interview' feel, and while that works with Walshy etc, it doesn't work when you are both together. You shouldn't really be interviewing you friend (co-host?) but instead chatting and talking about Leicester in an informal (but informative) manner. Also as mentioned the 'What do you think?’ that keeps popping up is annoying and it would work better (not just aesthetically but constructively) if you addressed the audience more. Keep referring back to the audience, "What do you think? Who would you play up front this weekend? Comments in the section below". What you want is to get the viewers responding so that you are not just talking to essentially nothing. The more you address the audience the more people are likely to tune in again as they feel a connection with the presenter. Same with all shows that have a presenter, they need to be charismatic and engaging - not saying you aren't that but just saying how it is very important to have that connection with the audience. By having a sofa studio sort of setting you’d get a more laid back ‘down the pub’ feel and you could crack jokes to the audience etc. I think with these sort of programs it’s good to be something different to what is already out there. BBC, Sky Sports etc, are all very formal and to the point and in order for your show to stand out from those coverages it needs to be different. Not saying you should be swearing and cracking jokes all the time but unless you have information or access that the BBC etc, don’t have then why would I watch your show instead of theirs? I think somebody mentioned this earlier in the thread. In order to get people interested, you create the informal ‘down the pub’ (sorry that I keep using that) atmosphere, Wayne’s World sort of vibe where you are constructing the games pre-match/post match but in a funny laid back chatty way, I don’t think the interview approach works – you should be a contemporary alternative to that. [bearing in mind I’ve not watched all of your shows so apologies if what I am suggesting you are already doing!] In terms of shows - I’d recommend splitting them up. It’s all about hits and subscribers. The more shows you put up the more traffic you’ll be getting. Which is good for you advertisement wise but it also gives the viewer more content. For example if you are releasing videos throughout the day or say 5 videos a week instead of the 2 , it makes the viewer feel they are getting more and will keep tuning back in. For example the video I just watched, could have easily of been three videos. They would be small videos but they would be divided into different subjects. For example “Everton Match build-up” “Leicester back in for Deeney?” “Leicester and Cambiasso” “Schlupp on the wing?” “Vary injury update”. By labelling it as “Leicester Gossip and Transfers” you are missing the opportunity to make your videos seen by a wider audience and generating more hits. If you had a 2-3 minute show called “Cambiasso to Leicester?” you would have got more than double the views you already have on it through people searching the deal on twitter/google. Not just Leicester fans but fans from other clubs/press. They search that and your video comes up – gets you 100-200 more views than you would have got. And once they’re on your channel they have become aware of your ‘product’ and will tune back if they like it. If they don’t, you have already got their ‘view’ and have therefore succeeded and your ‘product’ has been seen. Otherwise where are people seeing your video? Where putting match build-up and gossip together can save you time - it is missing out on video views/hits which would be beneficial to you on a business front but is also convenient for the viewers. Internet user’s attention span is pretty small. What if I wanted to hear about Deeney but I couldn’t be bothered to listen to a whole match build up? I don’t want to have to scroll through and look for it. Time wise you could film that all in one day and release them staggered across the week. You should be promoting your other shows through the different videos, “We’re going to be talking more about that deal in the Deeney video so look out for that.” Also keep pushing the ‘subscribe’ element and don’t leave gaps in between videos. There needs to always be another video impending to get the audience hooked. Promote forthcoming videos constantly on twitter to build it up. Make it seem as if there is always material even if there isn’t. Constant tweeting and plugging videos is the key. Don’t just submit a show and leave it to collect views, keep promoting it. “Can’t wait for Saturday? Watch our Everton match build up show now” “Here's what we had to say about our first home match in TEN YEARS in our match build up show” etc, etc. But yeah I like the look of it and the market is there. Especially now we’re in the Prem. If you can (and it looks like you have) establish yourselves as the main LCFC youtube/media channel then it will no doubt be very successful. I know there are a lot of other channels similar from different clubs so it’d be beneficial for you to be in contact with them (if you are not already doing so) in the build up to fixtures – contributing and doing Skype chats or whatever. It’s all about establishing yourself in that market and getting to know your competitors but also peers when it comes to what’s right and successful. Apologies for the essay and keep up the good work. I hope through all that drivel I’ve suggested something useful.

We do have a studio, and will be using that for live streamed shows as the season gets going on a weekly basis.

OzFox Posted 16 August 2014 Posted 16 August 2014 What's your goal for these videos, Mack? The suggestions in this thread (better mics, two cameras, more cutaways, noddys etc) are very good if you want to take it to a more 'professional' level and maybe make money out of it. Obviously though it's more expense and hassle, both to shoot and edit. If you're making web videos for a hobby then you're doing fine as you are (although you could probably find a better location than the Snibston car park )
Mack Posted 16 August 2014 Author Posted 16 August 2014 See you at the Spur bar under the Holiday inn Express if you are passing come and get involved. 1:45pm ish and again after the match. OzFox the aim is get better and provide quality content to Foxes fans, we dont make any money and do this in our own time, so it is done as and where we can fit it in.
Carl the Llama Posted 16 August 2014 Posted 16 August 2014 good stuff. Not sure i like the cut to B/W...but that's just an preference/opinion and you're not going to keep everybody happy all the time...keep it coming! Seconded. That;s the sort of editing that only looks good(imo) in 'legacy' videos when you have something like Henry talking about his time at Arsenal or our Gary listing off his best ever World Cup XI in that video released in the run up to WC'98.

Would offer to give you a hand shooting and editing but I'm not exactly local Good luck

80footgiraffe Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Sit down, deck out a room with some memorabilia and get 2 microphones. Simple
Jonezy Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Love the discussion, but please work on the sound.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 I've done stuff for online TV channels and the bite sized videos, as others have said, often work a treat - 3 or 4 mins max. Good luck guys.
Captain... Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Mack, you've got to either sit down, or hold the microphone or something, your hands are in and out your pockets, fiddling with your shirt, round the back, at the front. Very off putting, if you're sitting down it will look a lot more natural.
danny. Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 and mix it to stereo, listening in headphones there is only sound on the left channel
