Non League 2014-15

FC United promoted to the Conference North after winning tonight.  Pretty great achievement given they played their home games at 3 different grounds.  Over 3,500 fans watched them tonight which is more than a couple of League 1 games had tonight.

After 3 successive promotions they spent 7 seasons in the Northern Premier league (they lost in the play off final 3 times)

Their new stadium is set to open against Benfica.

ooops Voll beat me to it.

Jesus its about time they did it. Congrats to them. some serious money knocking about in the conference north. Could be another challenging season. Though youd expect they will be up there.

Have they ever played AFC Liverpool?

Don't think so, but the two don't really compare. AFC Liverpool are a pretty pointless club.

FCUM have made a point of having friendlies against other fan-owned clubs like Wimbledon and Hereford though.

Just got back from a the game. FCUM fans really are something else.

Terraces, beer, flags, chanting, bouncing, pyro. if premier league football prices keep going the way they are I don't think it will be long before I'm a regular at FC

FC United's new ground:

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/exclusive-fc-uniteds-new-ground-9057296

No doubt a success story getting the ground but those wooden planks on the front of the stadium look so tacky and bad. Just means that whatever success they have, they're always going to be labelled tinpot because of the ground

lol

What? You mean belittled for a ground whose construction all supporters had a say in? Looked down upon for pulling through for ten years and getting something like this done by the use of passion, belief and personal donations?

Besides, the planks are there for a reason (as mentioned in the article itself).

I'd suggest you look at a club like Union Berlin, whose fanbase was also actively involved in renovating their stadium.

ah was gonna say thought it'd be about a tenner. not bad. surely if they plan to be competitive at a conference level or even higher they'll have to push up their prices, no?

They take good followings wherever they go too, FCUM.

tbf they're only playing in local leagues atm aren't they? it's not exactly hard to take a big following from, let's say, manchester to greater manchester. will be interesting to see what they do if they hit the conference and someone like dartford or woking tries to charge them £20+ a ticket.

The Northern League is a bit of a misnomer, they play as far away as Barwell. Took quite a lot to Torquay in a Cup tie this year too as I recall.

meh, fair enough. torquay is a trip and a half but is bound to attract numbers, basically a holiday :D

they obviously take great numbers compared to anyone else around them in the league. just it's a lot easier to take numbers for any club if the majority of games are more local and they're never on tele at 8pm on a monday or 12.05 on a sunday and so on.

will they hike prices in an attempt to get up the leagues further? you can stroll through northern leagues just by being a bit better than teams like stourbridge, but when you get to the conference you need some money eventually. and will they boycott when someone like alfreton tries to charge them £20+ based on the whole idea of the club being for the fans etc, ticket prices this ticket prices that? hopefully they don't just become another football club like the rest of 'em.

I would imagine if their past is anything to go by they would boycott they have led successful boycotts previously and sometimes have threatened boycotts then to see the away team relenting, they have also renegotiated ticket prices in the past.  I think a lot of clubs see FC as their meal ticket so bump prices up, this will be accepted by most but not FC.

Yet incredibley FC United get criticism from other fans about that stance.

As for increasing prices themselves, maybe, but it will be done in a democratic way

They were going to boycott Ramsbottom the other week after they bumped up their prices from £9 to £10 just for that game.

FCUM fans threatened to boycott, Ramsbottom shat it and promptly knocked the quid back off.

Aside from the grey area over their FA Cup game against Rochdale being moved for TV a few years' back (which, I think, was done following a vote among their fans asking whether to do it) they're a principled bunch.

As an aside, they also chartered a steam train to that Ramsbottom game for the fans. lol

Fylde is ridiculous. Basically just a vanity project for a businessman who wants to outdo Andy Pilley at Fleetwood. Even with the way Blackpool are going there's no chance of them every having a big enough fanbase to be sustainable. Half the people in the towns and villages they're trying to attract support from are already Blackpool and the other half are already Preston.

Looking forward to FCUM coming to Boston if the latter aren't promoted.

I'll definitely get down for that one!

Yeah FCUM have got a huge away support they to take away games. I see them back in November when they played Barwell in the Fa Trophy, match wise it finished 1-1 but was a terrible game. They didn't quite bring as many they usual do, I think they probably bought about 200 fans, which isn't bad at non league level. I'm expecting they'll bring a big following down the boro next season.

Credit to FCUM how they've built there club, I think there capable of getting the club into the football league maybe in the next four or five seasons.
