surrifox Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 as we are not classed as football aristocrats we rarely start as strong favourites but there must have been occasions when we were expected to win then bossed the game for a 2 or 3 goal lead then collapsed in a heap against spirited opposition. I cannot think of any- I expect it would have been a cup game and of course there have been the unexpected reverses against lower league sides but not on the scale of last sunday.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 Would like to say it was against a much smaller club than us, although at the time, they were top flight and we weren't. It was when we played Oxford United in the League Cup in 1987 - 2-0 up but lost 3-2.
davieG Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 We weren't favourites but we were 3-1 up after 68 minutes against Newcastle and lost 4-3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUrftdKkFzU

Haydos Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 Ah Jesus as a 12 year old that hurt. It really did. I think it was the first match I ever watched on Sky, we didn't have it so we went round to one of my dad's mates houses to watch. I just sat there in disbelief as Shearer tore us apart and then there was like 7 mins stoppage time. Ruined me.

ScouseFox Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 In terms of being comfortable favourites who messed up a decent lead gotta be brighton in league one. weren't we 2-0 up after about half an hour but then lost 3-2? in the shittest tuesday night game ever
Vicki Vixen Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 We weren't underdogs or favourites in this game, but we badly threw it away. One of the most frustrating games I've watched us play.

ScouseFox Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 League One? Hobbs own goal last minute? Yeah league one. Something like that. Think Fryatt bagged twice early doors then we pissed it up the wall. Think that's the last time I can remember us losing a comfortable two goal lead despite clearly being the better team on paper?
bovril Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 We weren't underdogs or favourites in this game, but we badly threw it away. One of the most frustrating games I've watched us play. Talk about a car crash. Another painful one. I might be imagining this but I'm sure Channel 4 did a documentary where they wired up Bassett and Allardyce to test their heart rates. Made for some brilliant quotes from old Harry - "where's Jonesy?", "what do we do now?". I'd love to watch a rerun.
Fox Ulike Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 I'm pretty sure in the 94/95 relegation season we were 3-1 up against Wimbledon at home and lost 3-4. Horrible.

They also had microphones and video in the changing rooms and I remember Allardyce's heart rate going through the roof at some point in the match.
lestajigs Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 WOLVES?! Was at this one, couldn't believe it
bovril Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 This is a horrible thread 03/04 still pains me. If we continue playing as we have done this season then I'll finally be able to get over it...
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 26 September 2014 Posted 26 September 2014 Living in Wycombe, I still keep thinking about that horrific Cup defeat, which was the start of our massive slide downhill. We got our revenge, than God.
