I headed towards a "road closed" sign in a built-up area.

 

There were no diversion signs but traffic seemed to be turning right with a purpose up a side street next to the road closure.

 

I thought - these guys know what they are doing to get around this - and I followed, as did three cars behind me.

 

After a left turn, then another right, it turns out that 9 cars have followed a guy who was heading to park outside his house in a cul de sac. 

 

We end up in a line of cars up to the end of the cul de sac, and we all have to try and turn around in a tight space, to go back the way we came.

 

FFS.

I go up behind them and flash them. 

 

Those that don't respond don't even notice me. They are the real problem, and they need to have licences revoked.

 

Its because when I go past them I have a look at them. And they are always in some sort of trance/stare directly ahead and usually pushed up close to the steering wheel.

 

Their awareness is limited to what is immediately in front of them in their lane.

 

In my opinion they should not be on a motorway, hell they shouldn't even be driving at all.

Probably moaned about this before, but why are you buying a SUV or one of these massive cars now, and then braking sharply to do 10mph over speed humps?

 

I can forgive the ones at the Meridian, they'll send you into space, but the ones down New Lubbesthorpe, or even the small soft ones going into Glenfield I've got these big hulking monstrosities who won't go over them at a reasonable speed.

 

You can easily do the NL ones at 20mph at least, but the dribble down to a glacial speed and then STORM OFF to the next one before braking again. Good god man.

Drives me mad, they’ll be driving like 60mph in the 3 lane of 4, you got in the right hand lane to overtake and suddenly they start speeding! 
 

I’ve found that when someone is in the 3rd lane, when it’s quiet, I just go into the left hand lane so I’m undertaking but with a clear lane between me and them.

I had to drive an old banger of a car to Sheffield recently. I took my time only rarely even touching 70 and most of the time travelling at 60ish. The middle lane hoggers are an even bigger menace when driving at the lower speeds. Amazing how many there are dawdling along at 65 in the middle lane.

Someone decided to pull out across two lanes at the LFE northbound merge yesterday. Very luckily my reaction to swerving was quick else me and the wife would have been slammed into the barrier and most likely seriously injured, if not killed at that speed.

 

The worst part is there was no one ahead of him in the lane he was in. He just wanted the 'fast lane'. Driving is definitely getting worse from what I see day to day.

Been driving on the M1 in the rain, with lots of spray and terrible visibility. Of course there are zombies in the middle of the road with no lights on....

This is mainly due to auto headlights that people rely on not turning on in the rain as it's actually quite bright.

 

Unfortunately you have manually turn on your headlights in this case which most people don't bother doing.

 

I've only recently started doing this as I assumed for years that my headlights would be on in the rain but they weren't.

Too much reliance on technology. Advances in technology in all areas of life are great but in driving i think theres some element of we need to get back to actually driving the cars themselves. Some sensors are OK, and satnavs, but the cars do too much these days. Auto headlights, lane assist, self braking etc. Just drive it yourself and stop relying on the car to do it for you.

I hired a car last year. Brand new Peugeot 5008.

 

Driving through the Cairngorms and as I'm going around a bend there's a small layby on my side of the road with a car in it.

 

I'm going a good speed for the road but there is someone behind me.

 

The car in the layby reverses and as I'm rounding the bend it's directly in front of me, but obviously not on the road. Absolutely no danger, the car is waiting and I'm rounding the corner nicely.

 

All of a sudden the dashboard screams at me, coming up with a red warning telling me to brake now.

 

I get a mini surge of adrenaline despite the fact I know everything is fine. I round the bend and - obviously - all is good.

 

Now, say we're a few years in the future and I'm driving an autonomous vehicle. If the car is telling me to brake in that situation when I didn't need to, a self-driving car is actually going to brake and most likely send the car behind me into my rear end.

 

So, I 100% agree with not always relying on the tech.

 

Also lane assist is annoying af.

Not annoyed but the absolute arrogance of some people.

 

Primary school gates are on an alleyway at the side of the school. A woman parks her 4x4 across the top of the alleyway blocking it off and anyone with a pushchair can't get out.

Just seen white van man come down the bus lane on Saffron Lane to the Pork Pie roundabout, when couldn't go any further, mount the pavement, drive about 40m on the pavement into the United Reform Church car park and stop to pick up his little one at the nursery there.

 

Nice he's so concerned about his little one getting wet.

I think you're referring to front DRL's. (Daytime Running Lights)

It's not a required standard feature to have rear DRL's. I think the the law is being looked at so maybe it will be.

That covers a lot of society really. We've automated so much that we're losing skills and experiences

I recently drove a hire van that actually slammed the brakes on several times in similar situations, often on bends with on coming traffic. I guess it thought it was a vehicle pulling out in front of me.

 

Scary as hell. Apparently there was a way to turn it off, but I only drove it a few times.

My sis-in-law drives a car that does so much assistance-wise, I wouldn't trust getting into an older car with her driving, that didn't have all the gadgets.

Imagine that on an icy morning where you have a sense of loss of controlled braking and getting into a skid. 

 

Automation in cars is not a good thing in many situations where driver awareness and the ability to adjust reactions to various rapidly developing situations is an absolute key. A hazard detection and automated reaction system removes any driver perception and their ability to take into consideration, and further react to, any peripheral hazards not detected by the car's automated systems.

The traffic around Aylestone, Blaby, Glen Parva & Whetstone recently has been gridlocked. Leicester Lane being closed for what feels like weeks hasn’t helped.

Not so much annoyed me but just found it strange. Coming along Clickers Way last night from Hinckley towards Desford and there was a tractor (was doing 30-35mph) another car and then myself. The car in front of me, who had been traveling right up the rear end of the tractor, eventually decided to overtake. He obviously couldnt see far enough ahead as coming the other way was a police car. Said police car had to pull in tight up to the left side of his lane and stop as the overtaking car hadnt got enough room to pull in in front of the tractor. The police car then put his blue lights on and proceded to turn around, however, once he had started to catch us up he switched his lights off and just followed the van that was behind me and just sat there for the next mile or so. I would love to know if just the video evidence, that im assuming was fitted in the police car, would be enough to maybe prosecute the overtaking driver or just whether he thought stuff this my shift fineshes an hour cant be bothered with the paperwork.
