lcfcbobby Posted 21 October 2014 Posted 21 October 2014 I personally think we should be playing a 4-4-2 as it suits our style of play and with Ulloa and Vardy up front we will create a lot more chances but i would like to get other peoples opinions on what they think.

Fox Ulike Posted 21 October 2014 Posted 21 October 2014 It doesn’t really matter what you call the formation. 4-4-2 4-5-1 or whatever should only really be apparent when players line up for a goal-kick. One formation isn’t magically just better than the others. It’s about picking the right players who can read the game well enough to know where they need to be at a certain time. What we need is a player like David Nugent or Andy King who can drop deep to help midfield if they are getting out-numbered, and can also then get forward to support the striker.

A midfield 3 of James, Cambiasso and Drinkwater behind 3 forwards in Vardy, Ulloa and Mahrez would provide enough attacking threat to outscore the opposition and enough energy to get back and help cover the defence. If we are going to use the 4-4-1-1 formation I would like to see Powell/Nugent playing in behind Ulloa but I'm not sure how Vardy would fit into that system and I think we look considerably weaker going forward without his pace and energy. Vardy's 1st name on the team sheet for me.

I can see him picking up the ball and running at the defence, pulling them out of position so that Ulloa is free to receive the ball and score.

eye666 Posted 21 October 2014 Posted 21 October 2014 Vardy is at his most dangerous when he's the furthest striker forward running in to space. He doesn't do the dropping deep and linking play anywhere near as good as Nugent.

But with Ulloa being marked, that opens up the space for Vardy to get the ball and then run at the defence, pulling them off Ulloa, to free him up. Or to continue pass the defence because they are marking Ulloa... I am not talking him playing right in the middle of the park, but just off the shoulder of Ulloa.

Richard Posted 21 October 2014 Posted 21 October 2014 442 with Vards up top, line up like we did last year with Nugent dropping deep and picking up their fifth midfielder. No matter what we are most likely to be overrun in midfield so we have to be effective on the counter, if fit Mahrez has to start, with Schlupp on the other side to provide protection for Konchesky as Dyer will be a big threat all game. Cambiasso doesn't have the energy to play from the start so bring him on for Drinky/James towards the end of the game is we're looking to hold onto the lead or looking for some creativity from deep.

Kitchandro Posted 21 October 2014 Posted 21 October 2014 It's 4-3-3. If it's 4-5-1 we're doing it wrong. As in, it was 4-3-3 against Man Utd, and 4-5-1 against Newcastle. Personally a 4-3-1-2 sounds like it suits us best - that way we get our best 3 midfielders in, with Mahrez behind Vardy and Ulloa who will both playing in their favoured position of striker.
lee7 Posted 21 October 2014 Posted 21 October 2014 Recently I've seen some posters on here saying 'NO not 4-3-3, it doesn't work' but like the previous poster pointed out it was 4-3-3 against united and that is the game where we have looked most dangerous in my opinion. Vardy should be playing on the oppositions last man for me, he will out pace any defender in this league! If we can get balls in behind then you can guarantee vardy will get there first. Him Nugent and Ulloa upfront will cause most teams problems if given the service from midfield. Against Newcastle we looked most dangerous when these 3 were on the pitch together.
kingfox Posted 21 October 2014 Posted 21 October 2014 4-3-3 rarely works for Leicester City, over the years it's been the most frustrating formation that I've seen us play. We go 4-3-3 then our full-backs become exposed & end up having poor games, we go 4-5-1 our striker usually get's isolated & we end up creating very little, and then result to hoof ball. 4-3-3 was the right formation to play against United, because they didn't play with any out & out wingers; however due to us having no support out wide for our full-backs, take Van Persie's goal for instance, it came from a Falcao cross because De Laet got exposed & had his pants pulled down, was anybody out there with De Laet to double up on Falcao? No there wasn't! 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 is the way to go for me, as I've said many times since Palace 4-3-3 will only work against teams who don't play with wingers.

Look at the start of our season some will say Hammond and King arent our best players but for the first few games they played out of their skin.

What he will do is get on the end of quality crosses. We got to concentrate on getting him some service whether it be 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or whatever! So we're relying on Ulloa to score the goals then, and the stats back that up. No one else in the squad has scored more than 1 goal and not a single goal from James, King or Drinkwater yet. We've changed and not for the better.

RedSoxUK Posted 21 October 2014 Posted 21 October 2014 4-5-1 when not in possession / 4-3-3 when in possession. Anyone wanting Vardy up top instead of Ulloa is an idiot, anyone wanting a straight forward 4-4-2 go here or drop down a few divisions and years.
