Only two Premiership sides didn't train yesterday..

What was the schedule of the rest of our training week? what was that of other teams? what intensity did they train at? what intensity did we train at earlier in the week? There are so many variables that it's not a problem, very few teams do a full training session the day before a match and are very much light sessions.

Of course it's not a high intensity training session .... but 18/20 had a training session.

I've got to say it seems a strange decision to me .....

NP must feel that his job is absolutely assured - surely he realises that if we lose then he's going to get questioned about this decision??

We never under NP have we?

Don't know .... I've never thought about it until it was mentioned on a different thread that Spurs did train and we did't, and then SSN said only us and Yanked didn't.

I'm sure we didn't last year either, If I remember correctly Nigel stated why, I don't think it harms them not training to be honest, as long as they didn't all get totally shit faced yesterday.

your always slating Pearson this is just another jibe at him, grow up pal.

Actually I feel quite sorry for the bloke and am certainly not having a go at him .... I've also posted this morning that I think we'll win comfortably today and go onto a winning streak so maybe you need to be a little less aggressive and personal and just join in discussion instead???

Personally my opinion, since you're so interested, I think it's a bit naive of NP to think that it's a good idea to give players the day off when you're bottom of the league. Of course it will lead to criticism if they lose .... I would have thought that a light training session to check that players are in good shape would be prudent on the day before a sell out crowd and massive game.

It's certainly a nice gesture by the management .... could backfire if we don't look sharp today though.

Do I sense a snide remark about the manager for alleged incompetence here?

Can we play the game first, then moan about something?

No.

Maybe you read something that was just an observation about LCFC. Maybe not all comments on this forum have to be either pro or anti Pearson???

Weird concept I know.

Not against it think it is a good thing.

The players should be relaxed after a day with the wags and kids.

Praps a breath test on the way in today would be a good idea.

We don't want another Brighton do we lol

I think it's reasonable for people to ask questions like this. ANYTHING which all of those other clubs that are looking far more like top flight clubs than us are doing, and we aren't, should be paid attention to. Especially as so many of our shortcomings seem coaching-related (set pieces etc.).

His message has repeatedly been that he is happy with what he's getting from his players. That was the message in early 2013 too. A move like this (considering he has, in the past, suggested that Xmas Day training depended on their performance in previous matches so - as we've just lost 5 on the trot, I can't imagine how bad things need to get for our players to have to be called in for work) suggests that what he's telling US about fine margins, and the work-rate being what he wants from them, is also what he's telling them. This worries me, because our work-rate has been very poor at times and I've been keen to distinguish between what he says to the public, and what he says to his players.

I'm behind Pearson, but as some point he needs to ask himself what he's doing wrong, and look at it with as objective a mind as possible. Perhaps this line he keeps coming out with about not taking his work home with him needs to stop cropping up, because there are plenty of managers out there who'd be losing sleep right now about our form. No, we don't know how intensive the other sessions have been this week, but it's yet another indication - and as fans we rarely know what's really truly going on, all we have to go on are indications - of a manager who feels far too laid back about our predicament. He may be assured of his job, and I hope he keeps it, but only if he's treating it with the seriousness it deserves.

I agree with this .... Because we really don't get much insight into the club from any source really little things that you hear are taken as indicators about what the manager thinks.

This could well be taken as "have the day off as you're doing OK" ..... Or "you've worked your socks off in training all week, have the day off and make sure you are adults on xmas day" .... We just try to guess!!

Alas, another stick to beat NP with should we lose later, no doubt.

And if we'd done it, and lost, it would have been because we trained the day before a match rather than allowing them to recharge. He can't win with some of these. I bet even if we were to win they'd call it inspite of Pearson...

Impossible to compare without knowing how we trained the rest of the week compared to the other 18 teams

No one does, so there's nothing to discuss.

Will only be used as a stick to beat someone up with

We have no idea what the schedule was, they might have been doing double sessions for the three days before yesterday.

Because it's not the norm doesn't mean it's the wrong decision, plenty of sides will have trained yesterday and will lose today, I don't see how missing out on a couple of hours training will make that much of a difference when they won't be training much in the next 10 days anyway.
