DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 29 December 2014 Posted 29 December 2014 Neither are Premiership quality, but I much prefer Simpson to RDL.
funkyrobot Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 De Laet gets my vote. Simpson had another absolute shocker against Palace. At least De Laet offers something going forward and recent performances show Simmo isn't any better at defending.

I'm not sure De Laet is a significantly better attacking option, his distribution is a joke. One assist and very little to do with any of our other goals. Was arguably not good enough in the second tier, is completely hopeless at this level. It seems we always go round in circle with De Laet, Konchesky, Nugent, King... when you know a player isn't good enough, focus on the viable alternatives instead.
davieG Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Simpson, especially in the first half was awful, nervy, lost soul and total out of the game.
sdb Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Simpson not looking great but still a far more solid choice. I'm sure we'll have a better defensive record with him in compared to RDL.

I'm not saying De Laet is a world beater. He's better than Simpson overall. And certainly a better, more incisive passer.
Kitchandro Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Simpson is no better than De Laet at all. At least De Laet was qucik and could offer something going forward.
Kitchandro Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Simpson not looking great but still a far more solid choice. I'm sure we'll have a better defensive record with him in compared to RDL. He's not been solid at all, he's been very poor defensively and has given away the ball far too often. I'm not sure what anyone sees in him, he's simply poor.

Callabinho Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Simpson's okay, RDL is a complete and utter waste of air, he has pace but other than that he is about as useful as a ball with tits.

I'm not sure what anyone sees in him, he's simply poor. And De Laet isn't? Our good run of defensive performances came with Simpson in there, and doing his bit. I thought he was poor today but it's best not to over-react. And if I was exploring alternatives I'd have Moore ahead of De Laet, simply because I think when you see a player isn't up to scratch, you need to explore all viable alternatives before going back to something which you know isn't good enough.

No, he's been poor the majority of the games he's played. I never said I thought De Laet is good enough, he's not, but based on his performances for us Simpson is certainly no better. He's been absolutely doggo.

Simpson had a mare today but he's been much more defensively solid than RDL since he came in.
SecretPro Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Simpson still better than De Laet in my opinion. So he didn't have the best game today but look at the stats since he's come in and he's definitely sured up the defence a bit. I feel more confident when he's on the ball too. Any defender picking up a yellow early on is going to have a shocker for the rest of the game because they can't do the job properly for fear of a sending off. Was has been magnificent lately. Really good. Proper premier league quality.
Raj Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 They went after Simpson today...especially the fist half...says it all

When was this good run of defensive performances? The league table would indicate that we're still waiting. Simpson put in a real stand out shocker today.
narboroughblue Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Was screaming numerous times today for Simpson to overlap and still he stayed back. If he's going to defend like that today it's a no brainer, RDL all day long.

Really good. Proper premier league quality. Yep - Simpson had his hands full against zaha - he had little help first half. He isn't as good going forward as RDL. Depends what you want from your full back. IMO, we play three in central midfield and then can play RDL overlapping behind mahrez cutting inside. The extra midfielder should be able to cover for Ritchie. (Yes I remember Newcastle but that was naive - James should have taken a card).
gazfox9 Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 de Laet all day long. Simpson was awful last week and continued that for today. At times he seems to tuck in that much he's almost playing as a 3rd centre half, and particularly today, left us exposed.
Sunbury Fox Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Have never been impressed by Simpson. He is a right footed Konch. Also gives off the impression of having a bad attitude; his off field antics add to that impression. For me De Laet is a much better footballer.
chapero82 Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Ritchie gives us better attacking options too, it's not very often Simpson does that for us, look against the Man U game Ritchie goes down the right at pace and does a great pass to vardy, it's the pace we miss
inckley fox Posted 8 February 2015 Posted 8 February 2015 When was this good run of defensive performances? The league table would indicate that we're still waiting. Simpson put in a real stand out shocker today. I was thinking of when we conceded just one in open play from six games, though that was before we inexplicably dropped our goalkeeper, admittedly.
