ealingfox Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Given Danny's had a little run in the side is anyone convinced he's better or worse than De Laet? Not much in it for me. Simpson hasn't offered a lot going forward whereas De Laet hasn't offered much at the back. Who should be first choice?
Callabinho Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Both have faults, however I'd say Simpson is slightly better defensively, I'd replace both given the choice.
Devonfox1884 Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Both have faults, however I'd say Simpson is slightly better defensively, I'd replace both given the choice. This.
Stadt Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 De Laet doesn't really offer much more going forwards, De Laet gets in to good positions but rarely puts in a good ball. Accurate crosses per game: Simpson - 0.5 De Laet - 0.3
Monsell1976 Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Defensively out of the two, Simpson all day long, but as Wookie says, de-leat does get forward more, but lacks the final ball, so I would have Simpson in, he's not been spectacular but done a good job since coming in.
The Doctor Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 De Laet. Simpsons positional awareness has been atrocious, and he's looked worse at dealing with wingers than De Laet.
ADK Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 I couldn't really choose. Simpson seems physically stronger with more stamina but De Laet has more raw pace. Mahrez has managed to play well with Simpson there so I'd keep him but with no Mahrez we might need someone to do more attacking. So perhaps De Laet would be better with Albrighton.
shailen Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 De Laet for me purely based on his pace. He must be one of the quickest full backs in the league, and although defensively he needs improvement, I reckon he has more in his game over Simpson.
Stadt Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 De Laet certainly has pace but what does he do with it? More often than not De Laet actually ends up ceding possession and breaking our attack up.
Grewks Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Considering we have criticized De laet for his poor positioning at times. Why has more not been made of Simpson's poor positioning for both spurs goals? For the first he completely left Chadli, and for the second the foul came about because he was out of position.
Fox92 Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 De Laet doesn't even look comfortable or confident on the ball.
LCCFox96 Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Simpson. Steady and consistent. Better defensively. What we need in each of our defenders in our attempts to stay up. You can tell Simpson has the ability to perform at a higher level because he's been rated at Newcastle and QPR during his time there. For me De Laet is an abundance of talent and if he could address some of his defencsive frailties and deliver a cross that found a medium between clattering into the first man or going out for a throw in on the opposite side of the pitch he could be a very good right back.
Merging Cultures Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 RDLs pace is based on a controlled environment during the off season and training, without the ball. Sure, he can probably run quickly without the ball but with it he is as slow as everyone else and doesn't do much with it. To me Simpson seems to do more with the ball and is more physical.
Rasmic123 Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 simpson is worse, lacks any composure. but i also wouldnt change the team too much after winning and playing well vs tottenham so i'd leave simpson in for the time being
dannythefox Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Simpson for me he's stronger in the tackle and reads the game better only thing is he's not as quick but you can't have everything.
jammie82uk Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 We won't need to pick between the two unless we sign someone can see De Laet playing right wing as he did today while mahrez is at ACON
LCFCSOULBOY Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 I think I need to look at Simpson a little more to decide.
inckley fox Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 I'm not particularly a fan of Simpson but I honestly believe that De Laet is one of, if not the worst, right backs I've seen in this league since John Curtis. In fact, Curtis would eat him for breakfast. Our full backs are a joke.
theessexfox Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Oh yeah I forgot Simpson's crossing against Spurs nearly reduced me to tears.
kingfox Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 They'd sure be perfect competition and perfect choices to have in the Championship. At Prem level I feel more confident with Simpson in the side.
Harry - LCFC Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 De Laet kept making mistakes that lead to goals, don't think Simpsons really done that. Just looks more comfortable.
The Doctor Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 De Laet kept making mistakes that lead to goals, don't think Simpsons really done that. Just looks more comfortable. Conceded 7 since he came in, 3 (Lampard, and both against Spurs) came about from him being out of position.
Harry - LCFC Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Conceded 7 since he came in, 3 (Lampard, and both against Spurs) came about from him being out of position. The whole back four were to blame for the Spurs goal. Far too high a line with the ball that close to them.
cjslcfc Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 I just feel more comfortable with Simpson in the side for some reason.
