Off to Barbados on Tuesday to watch West Indies vs England (ODI & T20).

Never been to the Caribbean before, so really looking forward to seeing the island and the warm weather. Hoping the cricket will be good too.

You’ll have a great time. Been a couple of times for cricket.
St Lawrence Gap is great in the evening, plenty of bars & eateries. Oistins fish fry is close by & worth a visit for some seafood. Try & get on an island tour too, only takes 4 or 5 hours.

Have a fantastic trip.

Yeah there's loads more to Majorca than just Magaluf. Also been to Palma and it's beautiful. Two different worlds!

Went there on honeymoon. If you're still there by the Friday evening, go to Oistins. Grills and barbecues of all the fresh fish/seafood they've caught. Only held on Fridays and people from all around the island head to it, so travel early-ish as traffic gets mad by the evening.

Harrison's Cave is also a must, and views from Cherry Tree Hill are pretty cool. Visiting any one of the old plantation houses/rum factories is worthwhile too.

Going to Nice in a few weeks. Booked it ages ago but only just getting around for planning things to do.

Any 'essentials' to see? We're planning a short trip to Monaco for half a day/day.

Is this with a tour company, or have you sorted it yourself ?

Sorted it ourselves. Two of us booked direct return flights back in May for £450 each. Booked what looks like pretty decent accommodation at a very reasonable price, a stones throw from Rockley beach (not too far from St Lawrence Gap/Oistins Fish Market). Kensington Oval nearby too and bought match tickets online at windiescricket.com for £15 each,.

Happy days! 🇧🇧

glad you are going this time of year, we did August and train to Monaco was rammed and people panicking - was way too overcrowded. Easy to get train from the station, remember passport if you want to enter the casino in Monaco - worth it just to tick off the bucket list. Nice is lovely, vibrant area - avoid the tourist trap restaurants near the street acts, some restaurants offer lovely fresh seafood. Essential's would be the beach (obviously) - stoney beach but nice. It was quite a while a go when i went to if i think of any other "must see's" i will let you know

Legend, thank you.

Probably won't hit up the casinos as travelling with our baby but good to know if we do wander in.

I see travel is really cheap on the train to Monaco, too. Only £17 return for 3 of us! Are trains/trams easily accessible (with a pushchair too)? We're staying in the Garibaldi area of Old Nice.

  :giggle: probably not then!

There is a place called Eze - really picturesque town between Nice and Monaco worth visiting.

Cafe de Paris in the square in Monaco is very famous, a couple of coffee's will be cheapeast on the menu (around 14 euro's)

old port area in Nice really nice with lots of cafe's etc.

a cannon goes off mid-day - we absolutely shat outselves first time we heard it we thought it was a bomb, something to watch out for.

Boulangerie Jeannot - bakery with really nice fresh pastries etc,

Nice is very expensive (as expected) be prepared to spend 8 euros + for a bottle of beer and generally eating out as well will be ££ - we ate in Monaco in the evening before getting the train back which was an experience watching super cars. Can get train back late but as you have a little one they run quite regularly throughout the day.

My round the world trip is complete. LHR - San Francisco - Hawaii - French Polynesia  - New Zealand - Australia - UAE - LHR. It's been an epic trip.

Thanks. Where's the cannon? We'll be sure to be far away if possible lol . What's the tradition behind that?

Thanks for the recommendations, we're prepared for the expense if you will!

It is a remanent from Victorian days when a british wife couldn't remember to go home for lunch when she holiday'd in Nice. It is in the old port.

it is a massive cannon blast so can't really avoid it 🤣

French trains are great. Went from London to Genoa a couple of years ago, about 120 pounds one way.

Comparing to trains over here it's insane. Costs triple for me alone to get from Bedford to London!

One day a UK government will sort out affordable, clean and punctual rail travel and rule for 1000 years.

Going to France is quite radicalising tbh because it's a country right next to us with a similar size GDP and population and almost all infrastructure and services are way better.

The HS2 situation seems a shambles.

I think their train service is an unheralded success of public ownership; high speed trains, well used, very good reach. There are geographical location similarities but equally a couple of huge mountain ranges which make it difficult.

You look well they coped with the attempted disruption to the Olympic Games with their high speed lines.

As soon as you use trains abroad, it emphasises how poor and expensive our trains are.

I went from Sydney to Wollongong, takes 95 minutes. So, about the same as Leicester to London. It cost £3.70.

Smart double decker train, clean and on time.
