Breaking down remaining fixtures

Recommended Posts

Yes, we have a rough stretch coming up. But I looked at the fixtures of the teams around us and think there may be a little glimmer of hope still left. I examined the bottom 7 teams because although Everton is not ahead by much in points, I just feel they will not be relegated. Hull looked shite today and have for a while. QPR, Burnley, and Villa all are also not in good form for quite some time.

So starting 7th bottom: Aston Villa 5-7-10, 22 points

Remaining fixtures vs bottom 7 teams: 5 (3 at home)

6th bottom: West Brom 5-6-10, 21 points (note: play tomorrow)

Remaining fixtures vs bottom 7 teams: 5 (2 at home)

5th bottom: Sunderlund 3-11-8, 20 points

Remaining fixtures vs bottom 7 teams: 6 (5 at home)

4th bottom: Burnley 4-8-10, 20 points

Remaining fixtures vs bottom 7 teams: 5 (2 at home)

3rd bottom: Hull City 4-7-11, 19 points

Remaining fixtures vs bottom 7 teams: 5 (4 at home)

2nd bottom: QPR 5-4-13, 19 points

Remaining fixtures vs bottom 7 teams: 5 (0 at home)

Bottom: Leicester City 4-5-13, 17 points

Remaining fixtures vs bottom 7 teams: 5 (2 at home)

Now I am not saying that it's a given we'll stay up. Far from it. But there is a chance. For as much as people are bemoaning our upcoming schedule, we still get to face just as many shit sides as everyone else. Just thought it would be an interesting study to break down the remaining fixtures for us and those around us and really, if we play up to our ability, finishing out of the relegation zone is definitely possible. We just need to be in better form.

Surely Palace are also in the mix. If (and after yesterday I know it's a big if) we beat them on 7 Feb we could be 3 points behind them. They also have to play Chelsea (a), Man U (h) and Liverpool (a) in their last 4 games.

I think Crystal Palace will finish top 10, they are a new team.

I agree and that's why I did not include them. However, many teams have been very streaky this year and their current form could maybe just be a Pardew bump.

I can't see us getting anything from the next 5 considering four of those games are against united, Chelsea, everton and arsenal.

I'm really struggling to see where we will pick a win up from!

I did think that, but I think Dwight Gayle and Puncheon are really finding form. Wish we'd have signed Gayle!

It's going to be rough but if we can nick a couple draws I think we will keep a chance.

Palace are deffo in the mix. They can easily go through a run like us and like previously posted, if Leicester beat them there will be a 3 point gap. Gayle and punch are no Kram and Ulloa.

How on earth can anyone not include Palace? They'll be back down there when their honeymoon period is over. I just hope we're the ones who end it.

Just because everyone wanted them included:

Crystal Palace have 5 left against the bottom 7 (3 at home)

Everton have 6 left against the bottom 7 (4 at home)
