Transfer Budget = Safety?

Recommended Posts

I just read an article on bwinbetting.com with the headline 'Why Leicester’s heavy Kramaric outlay spells relegation doom'. Basically it says sides which has spent their entire budget on one player in this window has been relegated. It's suggesting that the club have used pretty much their entire transfer kitty on Kramaric to bank on safety, where as Pulis has bought in 5 players for the same amount and fixed the teams shortcomings by spreading it about.

But the fact that Pearson is also going for Okazaki for similar money, and lost out on Maloney, suggests there is more money in the pot. However, should that 9 or so million quid be spent on one Japanese striker or one defender and 2 attacking midfielders? Pulis is a bit of a master at escapes is he not? Should Pearson be following his lead on this one and spreading the money around looking for more creativity in the middle when he's already spent up large for Kramaric?

Interesting article. I hope Pearson spreads it around personally

Do you genuinely think bwinbetting.com is in the loop on the budgetary situation of LCFC?

Not at all. It's obvious they aren't up with the play on the Okazaki bid, so they are clueless about the budget. What they pointed out was spending over the last few seasons for teams in this position on the table, and how the money was spent and who survived. So the gist was that it was better to spend it on more players with different attributes than shell it all out on one player and hedge all your bets on him. Just wondered which was the best option if there was only 9 million quid left in the transfer kitty

We're obviously in for another forward, and a midfielder... Who knows whether we're in for defenders and more midfielders too as the current management team don't do their work in the eye of the press

Basically, we probably haven't blew the budget on one player

Does the team need Okazaki for 9 million? I don't think so personally. Maloney was missed, but that's where Pearson should be looking to do business I think. Pointless having another striker and no service. If they go for Corluka you have a CB who also plays fullback. Then I would concentrate on someone with a little bit of quality and pace out wide from within the premier league. No strugglers will sell to another team in the relegation fight, but if you can nip someone on loan from one of the better teams then that's what I would do. Salah from Chelsea, that type of quality. Better ways to spend than on another unproven striker

Pullis was chasing macmanaman from Wigan.... he is proven in the pl.. we should chase him.

As for a proven cm .... any suggestions?

Meanwhile I repeat that new signings may add just a few points...but most of the points we get will depend on getting the best out of those we have already got.... so nigel needs to get ulloa in the starting line up and carry on fixing the problems.... he has fixed some but he has more to do.

So I think that how transfer money is spent... on one or more players... is less relevent than having a gaffer who gets on with sorting the problems out

I don't believe Kram has used up the transfer budget. I think the owners will want us to give surviving in the PL the best shot by backing NP - as they know that an instant return isn't a given.

There is definitely more money available and hopefully more signings too! What a shame this didn't happen 6 months ago.......

It depends on your current squad and whether any replacements are either filling gaps in your 25 man squad or are better than them.

We only have a couple spaces so there's no point buying 7 or 8 players if they are not better or provide a better balanced squad.

As is always with football there's never a single solution.

Whose to say we don't have money to fund a move for Okazaki and a few defensive reinforcements? Equally whose to say the Kramaric move wasn't the overwhelming majority of our funds?

We don't know the finances of the club but if we are to assume German sources about a fee being agreed for Okazaki are true, and like the OP said on Maloney's bid, then it's more likely that we do have remaining a decent budget and can conclude this article is more likely bull than not. How can they determine whether we have spent all our budget on one player midway through the window - published too early at best.

Just reading here in New Zealand that Chris Wood might be off to the Championship shortly, so that might free up a move for another player. Any others that should be on their way out in this window?

You believe an article on a betting site? Surely you do understand they issue reports based on a certain intent which may be connected to... betting?

It's great to see us being compared to West Bromwich Albion, a team that has now spent several seasons in succession in this league. Do you think that is a fair comparison in terms of player material already available?

Don't be fooled by literary output like the one on that website.

That's a bold statement.

Haha, nice one jonthefox. Couldn't bloody change the setting

MC Prussian, didn't say I believed it, just that I read it and thought it was an interesting take on things. Yes, it's a betting agency site, but a fair, and probably obvious, point they made that teams who have spent large on one player haven't succeeded. Just stats really, but it would be great to see some creative flair on the flanks and not another striker come in. That's all I got from that article

Apparently we're close to a £10m deal for Okazaki. In the Prem you've got to have players of international standard, and a forward line of Ulloa, Kramaric and Okazaki looks potent.

The only slight issue here is, what about the service? Is that 'International' standard.........??

Service will be fine if Mahrez and Schlupp perform as they have been recently and Knockaert and Albrighton continue to perform as they did vs Villa.

We need a CDM and some defensive reinforcements.

I still think we need another decent midfielder, playmaker

we definitely need a lb and a cb
