Feeling a little cheated ....

Players that are valued at more than £10mil aren't interested in coming to LCFC in fact it's fairly obvious that those that are valued much less than that don't fancy it.

I get the distinct impression that not many 'quality' players actually fancy the idea of a relegation battling season and anyone who thought it wouldn't be is a tad naive.

Probably using Southampton as a blue print? Off the top of my hand, they still have two of the guys which got them up from League 1.

And bloody good managers along the way ...and changed the ones that weren't doing the business

Love it

100% behind the Southampton model

Pearson / Adkins model would be a good start lol

Await the pro pearson arrows from the communist party on Foxtalk lol LOL lol

Do people just ignore what Pearson says?

He has stated time and again that he will not just buy players for the sake of it. He will only buy players that will improve the team. We have the funds available to buy more players, such as Maloney and others but deals fell through on terms with the player, which could be anything like not agreeing on a relegation clause or just not feeling the right fit with us.

Second point the 120m for getting promoted is including parachute payments £60m prize and TV money first year then a further £60m over 3 years after relegation.

Thirdly £20m in transfer fees is only part of the story, wages, signing on fees, agents fees, win bonuses etc.

We still have the funds to buy more players and the owners will dip into their pockets if needed, but it is not as simple as that, agreeing a fee is only half the story and truth is we are the least attractive prospect in the Prem.

Where is the 40m academy them ?

I'd love your point to be true , the club said we are going to build a structure for the future ...build a world class academy and attract the best

Truth is there are some championship teams with better academy's than ours is

But yea I'd support that process

"Lads we are going to like go down but this windfall is going to make us the best Midlands accademy by Miles"

It may have escaped your notice but we are one of 20 or so category one academies in the country, the top status we can gain. That's something we've invested substantially in. To suggest otherwise is just wrong.

Managers sell dreams , sell ambition , sell the product , the plan

CEO's make those sales pitches work in ££££ in the players accounts

Managers are Key .....not sure Nidge would sell a life raft to a drowning man

And the only way to get them interested would be to offer them a fvck load of money, which is not the right way, look at QPR.

The owners have only been here four years. Already invested a huge amount, and 40mil is a huge amount to invest in one go. Get your point though, which is valid

It's a bit of a catch 22. Do we invest heavily now, try to avoid relegation, and use the PL money to invest in the youth system. Or do we wait 1/2 seasons and invest it then. The irony is we need success to improve our network, and that may mean blowing money in the short term

QPR bought religation and sold survival , no one suggesting that model

Someone who can debate properly on here , brill !

Can't argue with that point

It isn't a question of spending huge amounts of money, it's about getting the right balance.

As an example, we could spend half the windfall on fees and huge wages, but go down and be stuck with players on huge wages who are not up for a fight in the championship.

A great example of this is Wolves, but also Bolton and Wigan spring to mind.

It's a delicate balance and the real difficulty is trying to add to what you already have, without disturbing what is already good. Players coming in on huge wages is one sure way of disturbing the balance.

So I think we have done the right thing. You also have to look at the sutuation where you have already lost £80m I think it was in the business and your first priority is to ensure you could get back at the drop of a hat if you need too.

If we stay up, we will try and invest further to try and maintain our position, but I tell you one thing, for sure we will never invest massively as the rewards of doing so are just not there.

Two good examples of this are Villa and Newcastle. Both have savvy owners and both know that the benefits of spending £200m are just not there.

Martin ONeill left Villa becasuse he wanted funds to take them into Europe. The owners knew that the rewards of getting into Europe were not sufficient to balance the investment and have opted to maintain a mid table position. Risky I know, but the owners know there isn't any financial benefit playing in Europe versus the investment needed.

Obviously if it was Champions League is it a different story, but the chances of achieving that are remote when you look at the competition.

Mike Ashley is a clever cookie. He certainly won't spend £300m with the only benefit of finishing possibly 5th. He knows the score, he spends as little as he can in order to get the premiership money at the end of the season. He knows the fans will still go, so he just takes the flack but is making the right decision for his business.

Football is broken. You have an elite few that are fighting for the champions league and the rest are just trying to maintain premiership survival and have a good cup run. There is no real benefit in finishing tenth, so you don't invest huge sums to get not much more reward than those that finish 15th.

I think our owners have done the correct thing. They have the possibility now to get their money back from their investment, which would have been causing them a massive headache. They are now balancing a sutuation between risk and reward.

As a business we are in a healthy situation. If we do go down we probably have the right group and right deals to not do a Wolves or Wigan. We also have cash available to try and get us up.

You only have to look at the clubs around us. They are also having to run the business like we do, so there is no need to think we are being hard done to

I'm not knocking the academy , just saying it that's the plan , foundations up , then build the best fooking foundations possible

The owners started that process as far as we know

It's PART of the plan, along with all new training pitches that mirror the stadium pitch, under soil heating at the training ground, investment in the team.

Ahhh so the real point of this thread rears it's head. Another Pearson bashing, it's all his fault absolutely no other viable reasons around.

Do you support Leicester? How can you not know about our academy, scratch the surface, there is a whole world out there!

Martin O'Neill managed top ten fiishes by bringing in quality and experience. Cottee, Marshall, Collymore, Parker etc. etc. Why does it have to be £10million or nothing? I find it hard to accept that the owners wouldn't back Pearson.

Think it's now a case of hoping that we stay up, which though difficult is not to unrealistic, then be able to look at what they could do better for 15/16. Not being a 'newly' promoted club will help, plus that they have stayed with Pearson means it won't be wholesale changes no matter what division we may be in. Still think we will sneak survival.

Nigel Pearson isn't Martin O'Neil.

Completely different eras of football now. Agents more powerful than ever, you simply don't get the type of players O'Neill had any more.

Any evidence for that?

I thought the op was going to say he felt cheated because the players didn't turn up yesterday.

Because I felt cheated that after spending a fortune traveling up there, and your team sets up like they did and don't even give it a go, I felt a bit cheated

Mahrez £400k

Yep French 2nd division and players like him are the exception. Izzet and Lennon were two quality British players (at the time) who we were able to pick up in a less inflated market.

This would be next to impossible now.
