Kram alone

Our Croatian friends from Rjika led us to believe that Kramaric should not play up top alone. We have played ulloa, vardy and nugent up front alone at times this season but none of them have impressed me in one performance as much as Kramaric did tonight. I think this is how we should play from now on, does anyone else agree? 5-4-1 from here on out.

5-4-1 allows us to play deeper....and keep the ball for longer.

Playing a proper 4-3-3 can also work though. Palace showed us first half that it counters well....and in schlupp, mahrez and kram we have a solid front 3.

Don't think it matter what formation we play from now till the end of the season, with QPR and Hull both winning today we are as good as down, may as well go shit bust and attack every game from now on let's score some goals even if we get tanked at the other end

he was swapping and changing with mahrez at times, too. he was much less isolated than when we play ulloa and as soon as we get the ball back we just boot it to him. we had measured and composed play moving forward as a team, until the final third when we had mahrez/kram/schlupp using a combination or skill and pace to scare the defence and carve out chance after chance. it was great.

Thought he was excellent tonight but tbf he could be even better in a more attacking lineup.

I disagree slightly.

On the counter is the only time we ever look dangerous. We don't have the players to unlock sides which sit deep at this level...so we must draw them onto us in my opinion.

also i think it was clever from nigel to play a back 5 but not use wing backs, use genuine full backs and put wingers in front of them. i'd argue we weren't really playing a 5-4-1 but more a 5-2-3 or so, with 5 at the back, james and cambiasso in the middle (but with less defensive responsibility due to the 3 cbs) and then mahrez, schlupp and kram further up again, and again both wingers had a tad less defensive responsibility due to the full backs behind them. he really is a genius.

5 - 4 - 1? **** no unless we're playing top 4

4 - 5 - 1 with Cambi a bit further up and Hammond a bit back?? Hell yeah.

Hit the nail on the head pal, would be perfect with wasyl and Huth cb's and Hamer back in net

thought he had a thankless task today when I heard the side

I understand why he was a better option than lumping it to ulloa when you have 9ft7 mertatwater in the back 4.

but was really impressed with how well he did of scraps tonight.

Agree with this. and someone mentioning Hammond I know he aint pretty but does a job in a 5 midfield allowing the creative players more freedom up front

Funny you say that, I said 'this is the system Little used to play', which was at times 5-2-3 with Lowe, Joachim and Walsh up front.

Kramaric alone or not, never made much difference to him, though he should play whole games because you never know when the magic will happen. Mah and Cas seem to suite him, and I think Schlupp will adapt soon. Nuge too probably.

Ullua... probably not because the whole dynamic of your game changes when he's on - long balls, posession changes twice a minute, counters are lacking. I mean Kram worked great as a second striker in the NT, but Ullua is no Mandzukic and there's no Rakitic or Modric behind them.

It's natural to want to put more attackers up front when you need wins, but your RB and LB are so defensively oriented you need another man in the middle to get posession and then Krama will turn that into sweet sweet goals.

Fantastic finish, could you have imagined if it fell for Schlupp?

Yeah, schlupp would have scored! He's our most improved player this season and has learnt how to finish, give him credit where it's due...

I was far from convinced after his performance at Old Trafford but last night he was excellent

His running off the ball was intelligent and his hold up play was very good

As others have mentioned we actually looked worse when Leo came on because it took up some of the spaces Kram was running into

Being super critical he did look reluctant to use his left foot and in this league if you are one footed it won't take long for quality defenders to suss you out

All Leo did when he came on was foul people and fall over, breaking up the last 10 minutes of play and effectively ruining any chances we could have had in the last 10 mins

I like Schlupp and his improvement has been fantastic but I'm certain he would have skied that chance
