History Makers: The Story Of Leicester City’s FA Cup Glory 🦊
drofmor55 replied to Sambiasso's topic in Leicester City Forum
Shows us what it meant to the players as well as us fans...losing to Roma and not reaching a europen final must have hurt them too -
Brendan buying Jose " a nice bottle of wine" before the first leg was like taking in an apple for the teacher. Too nicy nicey. Jose repaid him by instructing his players to foul, dive and fake injury constantly.

Agree with Martin Keown's comments re we need to learn from this...as far as European comps go we are inexperienced but nights like this in Rome will benefit players like Fofana,Dewsbury- Hall,Barnes and Maddison. You dont win European comps until you have become battle hardened. This defeat may almost turn out to be a blessing in disguise, like when we got relegated to Div 1. We know what that led to.

Good point

Remember when West Ham beat us early in the season 4-1 and Souchek,Antonio,Coufal et al bullied us ...Perez was sent off for a dangerous tackle (unluckily,he stumbled just before he made it)but at least he got stuck into them....admired him for that
-
He is not a holding midfield player and fair play to him for being willing to play that role in the two matches. He has always been prone to a loose pass(amongst all the fine creative ones) but in your own half that has greater consequences,as was shown tonight. It was almost like he was in no mans land with his attacking instincts shackled.

PSV (A) 14 April | UECL quarter final 2nd leg

Hope we play a DM ..Youri,KDH and Maddison looked stifled in the first leg, having to over concentrate on defence -
The only player i can remember who when he played for us alternated between Left back and centre forward..and i seem to remember Man utd had him on trial for about a month but never took up the option. Opposition players found him hard to predict probably because he never knew himself what he was going to do. At one time we had about six players who spoke fluent german ,of which he was one. Fuchs,Kasper,Shinji,Huth amongst others. Must have helped us bond as a team when we won the league

Would'nt mind Amartey playing the defensive midfield role..seem to remember he played there before his injury -
Remember him well...probably the toughest player i've seen play...then became a match day guest host at Villa,so he must have had a nice side too!

Lewis Brunt has been training with the 1st team...has played well with the U23's and in the cup game v Watford...deserves a chance -
year 2000...Ian Marshall in a pizza restaurant in Cheltenham one evening during the festival..he was with a group of his mates and they looked as though they had really enjoyed thier day. felt like asking him if this was the way to prepare for the League cup final a few days later..obviously it was as he came on as a substitute and we beat Tranmere

title winning season..Jamie Vardy had just got sent off and walked down the tunnel at the King Power..West Ham fans started singing " Jamie Vardys having a shower"

Leo Ulloa did this role perfectly at the front of the six yard box ...i would have thought Kelechi should be capable of doing it as well...or Ndidi but putting Vardy or Thomas there isnt going to work -
He seems to have built up a good relationship with Soyuncu on that left hand side
-
His performance against Rennes was impressive...nearly all of their chances came down our right hand side..his side was watertight..dont know if it was because their best players were on the right hand side but the best i have seen him play
-
I think thats a pretty fair assessment of the game...i was surprised that you continued to attack in the later stages..just a 1-0 defeat would have been a decent result to take back to Rennes, but you allowed us to score on the break late on !
-
and he can do it with either foot..v.hard to stop...seems to have an instinctive partnership with Vardy as well

Schmeichel was excellent..cant blame him for the goal, the pitch caused that Soumare doesnt track back..its more of an amble back Randers were a decent team until they run out of puff..but thier finishing was comical -
Not sure re Frank Large..remember him being a big lump and fearless ! Dont think we will ever see a 17 year old goalie in the Premier league.
-
Was at that game ..John Sjoberg and a 17 year Peter Shilton had brilliant games
-
Agree...i noticed with the goal we conceded v Brighton, it was late on in the game and he got beaten in the air, when he landed his legs almost gave way under him.
-
Danny Simpson was 5'9 and one of the best i've seen at dealing with crosses to the back post..think its about anticipating the flight of the ball..he was a natural defender but v.limited when going forward
-
Mendy played well...was effective in closing down space in front of the back four and looked composed when he had the ball

Overall Leicester were pretty decent, but its hard to know how good the opposition are. West Ham are top of the league though and Sonny Perkins looks a good player
