  1. Cheques.
  2. Possibly, and Arsenal are big down here in the south. But so are Chelsea in recent years. Closer than you'd think.
  3. I forget which one of Kegworth or Castle Donington it is (maybe both) but they have Derby post codes, yet are officially NW Leicestershire. Probably Kegworth. Given it also has a boundary with Nottinghamshire, I don't mind if folk there support Derby. Some fairly civilised pubs there too. Not the worst part of the world, or even the Midlands.
  4. It's only one game, but it shows we can struggle if we play a team that knows how to convert their chances. In a sense though it's good we've got this wake-up call now, still with a big cushion and leading the table. We cannot be complacent from this point on.
  5. Can't help you with the Bernabeu thing. When I was there tickets were mega-expensive, and I suspect they still are today. Madrid breaks - generally a very safe city, but pickpockets are active in busy central areas (metro/rail stations, the Sol area). Make sure you and companions keep money/cards/phones in very safe places. Taxis - always best to flag one down, don't go to taxi ranks. However those from the airport are monitored by the council and should only charge the fixed rate into town (used to be about 30 euros but may be more now) Learn to greet staff in bars/shops etc with "Hola!". You can get exceptionally quick service in bars by ordering when you enter and approach the bar "Hola! Dos cafe con leche por favor" (or dos vino tintos or dos cervezas etc). If you look lost and hesitate in the middle of the passageway you'll be ignored... If you want to pay up (this can be the time-consuming part) learn to shout out "me cobra?" at the barperson (ok, la cuenta? can also work). Perhaps shouting is the wrong word, but be prepared to speak loudly to gain attention. If you can take a day trip to either Segovia/Toledo/Avila. Should find some good experience options on Airbnb. Don't overtip in bars - 5-10% is normally enough, and no problem if you don't as service is supposedly included. Until June it can get surprisingly cold at nights because of surrounding mountains. Go in July/August and the heat is oppressive, don't expect to do much in the daytime. If you want advice from English-speaking folk who live there, pop in an Irish pub like Triskel or James Joyce and ask customers/staff. 47 Best Things to Do in Madrid Right Now (timeout.com) It's not something I do in cities I already know (and can use public transport buses) but for the first time visitor it may be worth taking the hop-on hop-off tourist buses. If you+family are into history/culture, this option used to be the best one to look at. Across Madrid Tours - museums, historical and children's itineraries
  6. Maybe we need a webpage to promote products from Foxes fans? Although I suppose we could just use a thread like this one?
  7. Filmed back of Tudor Road? The other advert I remember well is the Wally ones from Swithland Motors. As per other entries, New Walk, parks, great curry houses, some "interesting" drinking holes down Humberstone and Belgrave Gate.. Also, and I've lived in various cities, Leicester has (or had) a great selection of takeaway options. Better than most.
  8. Strange isn't it? For those of us who've followed the team for various decades, we've seen many dire times, but if anything it makes us identify more with the club. One reason I can respect the Cov fans (even some on that forum) for staying loyal through the hard times. But we all want to see our club win (further) trophies, so their fan who claims he's happier that they didn't have the success we had in recent seasons, no, can't understand that.
  9. I'm still of a similar opinion, but I trust in the bosses' judgement. If Enzo thinks CC is a worthy first team choice, then who am I to differ?
  10. Yep. If anything it's easy to feel pity for the place*. Hard to hate them in that sense. * Some nice villages and countryside once you get outside the city, but you can say the same about Leicester.
  11. Weakest midfield we've put out this season?
  12. Another option may be to target gift shops in convenient areas (St Ives a bit far, maybe Lincoln, Cambridge or Stratford on Avon?) and try and offer your goods as consignment stock ie if they sell they pay you the agreed wholesale, otherwise you can retrieve at a later date. Make it easy and risk-free for the retailer, and if it's an attractive product you may stand a chance of the shop stocking it. All depends on how many you can produce, and how confident you are these will sell. Best of luck, will take a lot of work to sell/get a marketplace.
  13. Yep. Footballers get huge wages, to compensate for short careers, and JV has hardly been at the bottom of our pay scale. He's earnt every penny of his huge salary, but now he has to face the same challenges of life we all face (albeit with a few million behind him). Giving him extended contracts when he's no longer able to contribute at the Premier level is crazy. We need that money to pay for new players and options.
  14. Something appears to have gone very wrong when the canal overflows. A lot of houses have now been affected by flooding, as well as caravan dwellers. The clean-up will take some time. Also very bad news for any property owners who had plans to move house. Their sale value must be hit hard. Hope you're able to move about and access shops/services etc.
  15. Yep. Not everyone has the necessary skill set to be top of the pile. He's probably light years ahead of most posters here, but it doesn't mean he's got what he needs at this level. Maybe he can find a place at a League 2 or Scottish club. Hope he makes the right move.
  16. I imagine (unless very watertight) the beer cellar is the first thing that gets wrecked. Must be horrible for anyone getting flooded out of their home. Takes weeks to get a place back to normal.
  17. Anyone here affected by the floods in Loughborough and surrounding villages? Looks particularly bad in the area I once lived (Bottleacre Lane/Belton Road/Meadow Avenue)
  18. Please keep him.
  19. We really need Man Utd to have a good second half of the season. Last thing we need is a big Manchester club sniffing around our manager.
  20. He reminds me of Diego Costa!
  21. I think we need to wait for biographies from the likes of Soyuncu, Tielemans and even Vardy, so we find out if BR really did damage players' careers. There was something seriously wrong in the last season and a half. Truth will out.
  22. All the best, and keep the faith! We're heading back to the big-time!
  23. Fair cop, no chance of getting the prize in any other nominations...
  24. It's a great forum, with some top notch contributors. But isn't this going a bit too far? Just my opinion.
  25. I remember getting splinters. And dead legs.
