SystonFox Posted 28 October 2005 Posted 28 October 2005 If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink. If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green. Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating if you're lucky! It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.
Parsons Posted 28 October 2005 Posted 28 October 2005 cool, but dont stare for too long because it hurts your eyes
CasinoGee Posted 28 October 2005 Posted 28 October 2005 If you stare at one pink dot all the rest disappear as well.

Vacamion Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 If you want to know how and why your brain is fooled by optical illusions, I suggest "How The Mind Works" by Steven Pinker...
kingcarr21 Posted 28 March 2014 Posted 28 March 2014 Optical illusion: what do you really see?. http://www.learning-mind.com April 7, 2012 Optical illusion is a mistake in the visual perception of the observed phenomena. In other words, it is a cheating on your brain and your visual senses, which sometimes is also calledvisual illusion. Here are some of the most interesting optical illusions. Spinning girl I have already posted a similar image in the article “Left vs. right hemisphere of the brain: which dominates you?†The illusion was created by web designer Nobuyuki Kayaharaand the main question to be answered is “In which direction is the girl spinning?†Take a good look and think on whether she is spinning clockwise or counter clockwise? The correct answer is: in both directions. By the effort of thought you can change the direction of her spinning to the opposite. If you find it difficult, then you can use this satellite image below: Look at the right side of the picture and then to the main illusion, and she will spin clockwise; look at the left side and she will spin counter clockwise. Guide lines on the girl’s hands and legs help your brain determine the direction of her rotation, and you begin to see the direction pointed in the picture. It looks like magic, doesn’t it? Red lines Q: Are the red lines parallel in the picture? Dots Q: What color are the dots that you see in the picture? White or black? Spirals or circles Q: Do you see spirals or circles? Concentrate on the black dot in the center of the image below. After some time of concentrated attention the colored spots will disappear. Incredible, isn’t it? Figure This is without a doubt the best optical illusion. You should certainly try it! The instruction is in the picture below: I hope you liked this small collection of optical illusions. It is a demonstration of the complexity of the brain and the visual perception. Who knows, maybe the world we see with our eyes is an illusion too… I promise I will post an article with a detailed explanation of these phenomena. By now, do not hesitate to share your impressions about the optical illusions you have seen!
MPH Posted 28 March 2014 Posted 28 March 2014 The league table was an optical illusion for a few weeks. It had most people thinking Forest were a half decent team. But i wasn't fooled!
Rincewind Posted 28 March 2014 Posted 28 March 2014 I have found when on a train and look out the window it seems to be going in both directions when I know it isn't. Maybe I should do something else when on a train.
