Schlupp to Swansea

The mass undervaluation of Schlupp by Leicester fans is at times frightening.

Sure he has his off days and batches of inconsistency, but it's no more than Mahrez.

This is a player who has adapted from a youth career as a ST, to be told he's not good enough as ST so play LB, to be told, play LW - picking up and playing LW in the space of a pre-season.. after changing his mindset the season before settling as a 'defender'.

That takes a certain degree of adaptation, intelligence and desire to go through all that at such a young age. You never quite know the level Schlupp will reach with us, but i'm sure his early learning and 'utility' aspect has put him in a stronger position for his career here.

One of the few players I wouldn't sell 'for the right price'.

With all respect to Swansea that would be a sideways move for Jeff. Despite the current league positions of both teams, if you look at the training facilities, fan base and money available there's nothing in it. He's very settled in Leicester and if he leaves it will be to a bigger club than Swansea.

A slightly naive comment considering the league position and recent history of the two sides.

Current league position really counts for nothing. It's the infrastructure of the entire club that matters. Look at Portsmouth, they had a good run of years in the Premier League and won the FA cup but failed to build the club up as a whole and now look at them. Players take a lot more than current league standings into consideration when joining a new club. Borussia Dortmund are another example, does their current position in the Bundesliga make them a less attractive proposition?

Current league position counts for a lot when we're in the relegation zone. If we go down we will not be able to compete on wages or fees with Premiership clubs, obviously. Recent history suggests they are more of a stable Premiership proposition than we are.

Also there is nothing to suggest that their training facilities are any worse than ours. And fan base really doesn't come in to it.

I would agree that Swansea isn't a step up for Schlupp unless of course we are relegated.

Fan base and history says they're one of the smallest clubs in the Premiership. All clubs end up at their true level and Swansea will get relegated for sure again at some point. They're having a golden period now but it's unlikely they'll get any better and at some point they'll lose their better players and replace them with dross.

Just like us under O'Neill, Leeds when they ere good, Middlsebrough, etc.

Only the really big clubs stay in the Premiership for any length of time.

That's assuming we go down though. On the flip side if we stay up there's no reason that we cannot develop as Swansea have done. However saying that they still aren't a bigger club than us. It's not like a Tottenham or Everton coming in for him, Swansea are very much a sideways move from a club like ours.

Disagree with this. You could argue that Swansea are challenging for top 7, but imo that's still unrealistic. As has already been said, he won't be offered much more money, I don't think he'll be better off in terms of development, and he'll be out of place in a team that like to play a clean passing game. I can't see him walking into the XI and even if he did, he'd be playing for a mid-table club.

Based on that, I think he'd be better off as part of the team he's been brought up at, helping us establish ourselves as a Swansea-esque club.

That's why I said it was naive. Players are interested in a) money and b) playing at the highest level. At the moment it's debatable whether we'll be able to offer either next season, so saying we are as attractive a proposition as Swansea is getting ahead of yourself slightly.

No surprise whatsoever for me this.

A few weeks I made the claim that Schlupp may well be one of the few players to get snapped up should we get relegated. I hope it's just noise but Swansea won't be the only ones interested IMO.

There will be more Prem sides wanting Schlupp than Cambiasso, for example.

That's because of the age difference. If Schluup was 34 do you think Swansea would want him?

When Cambiasso was 22 he was at Real Madrid.

His biggest problem is that he is rapid without the ball but looks like he is running through treacle with it. Also needs to learn composure too. More likely to score from 20 yards than a 1 on 1 where he has time to think.

Leeds are a big club, if you were going on fan base alone they would be top half premier league.

thye can have him, if we go down he will want out, and if we stay up we will need better. i like him, but its goodbye i think

Schlupp just needs more composure and better concentration.  He can be taught that.  I don't see why people want to get rid of someone who is so quick.

22 and possibly our player of the season. It's not a surprise that a top 8 team want him.

Is there anybody but you and Col saying that? He's like top 5 but a run of like 4 matches where he looked great doesn't make him player of the year
