Pearson interview

And maybe the fact that our manager has spent the last couple of days fielding questions about ostriches and bullies rather than preparing his team for the most important game of the season. Don’t you think that Pearson’s focus is not where it should be right now?

They are prearranged press conferences, he's not had to do any more press than he would have had to do. So trying to make out it's in some way changed the way we'd prepare for the game is ridiculous.

Plus, as usual you ignore the core of what I’m saying. Do you not think that Newcastle will be given a lift in confidence following this fiasco?

No, why would they? Why would they care that he called someone an ostrich? They probably laughed at a meme and got on with playing xbox all day.

You're very much overstating the impact, I could quite easily sit here and state it will actually rally the players and the management together at Leicester. That a siege mentality will develop and make them all fight even harder.... but I'm not going to because the reality is it's a nothing incident and the players won't give a shit.

murphy's quite senior which means the journos have got their 'older brother' to help them out. he comes across as arrogant but, in a way it's justified as pearson has been a little more vicious towards the press than mourinho or van gaal.

I don't think they did, lots of journalists have been very critical of him and stated he's a self appointment spokesmen. I think it's more a case of one ego trying to take on another one, in attempt to create a story rather than report one.  Looking through his timeline on twitter he had some sad case (non journo) telling him he's the man to sort Pearson out, that he needs to do something.... then he rocks up the next day for the first time.

Posted

Has he? He's done the normal prematch press conference, that's it. Even still, that's what we've got a coaching team for.

No. Why on earth would they be given a lift by what is just a nothing story?

For goodness sake. Pearson is trending on Twitter and you call it a ‘nothing story’. ?

If it’s a nothing story why are you on here talking about it?

I think you would have to be pretty blinkered not to believe:

  • That Pearson has been distracted from the task in hand
  • That Newcastle will be glad of Pearson's distraction.

Honestly. I’ve no problem listening to opinions, but to believe that this story has no impact on anything is breaktakingly naïve.

Nonsense. I'm not stating what the impact will be at all. I'm saying that there will be an impact.

You're saying it will rally the players. Maybe you're right. I hope so.

So what do you thinks happened? That he'd turned up for training and decided he can't discuss tactics as he's got to write a 5 word apology to the reporter.

You're being ridiculous.

No, I said it probably won't rally them because they won't give a crap. It's already been laughed off publicly by Kasper.

Yes you are over stating the impact I quote "And maybe the fact that our manager has spent the last couple of days fielding questions about ostriches and bullies rather than preparing his team"... quite clearly over stating the impact it's had, he's done no more press than usual, will have spent the same time with the players as usual etc. In what was would it have distracted him from preparing them?

And yes, anyone thinking the impact of this would be to blame for a loss over other factors such as injuries or us only have a short amount of rest time compared to them is also definitely overstating the impact.

I think that's the main point for me. There is actually a quote from a player, yet the drama queen's want to ignore that and try to make a big deal out of the situation. I suppose that's how some people get their kicks, but it's pretty sad.

lol @ people saying tomorrow is our most important game of the season.

It's our 25th 'must win' game.

We're getting to the stage now where every game is important aren't we? Picking up points in these winnable fixtures is essential if we want to stay up. Each game will be as, if not more, important as the last.

Lots of shite trends on Twitter, some no mark fans from other clubs talking about ostrich gate means sweet fa, but it's a funny outburst and that's why it's being talked about:

- despite the players laughing it off and denying that

- it's dubious if he's even been distracted but even if so, Newcastle will have been more distracted, it doesn't help them

Pearson makes strange comment in post match press conference, apologised for it in pre match conference 16 hours later: it's a completed load of nothing being used to fill headlines.

Nonsense.

Why would we want to deflect attention from such a good performance? We won many plaudits for our performance against one of the very best teams in Europe. A game in which we gave as good as we got for most of the game, and were within 10 minutes of pulling off a draw.

Without Pearson’s idiotic press exchanges, what the press would be talking about now is yet another mightly LCFC performance. The press would probably be speaking of Pearson and Mourinho in the same breath. Instead, Pearson is currently Twitter’s ‘village idiot’. People are laughing at him. He’s in memes with David Brent for goodness sake. What on Earth is ‘brilliant’ about that?

Newcastle should be shaking in their boots. Instead, they are thinking that they have got a real chance to cash in on the instability within the Leicester camp.

This whole incident has harmed our fight against relegation – be in no doubt about that. And also be aware that should we lose on Saturday, there will be lots of people drawing a direct link between Ostrichgate and our defeat.

You think the players seek assurance from the media about how well they played? They couldn't care less what they read, they know how well they played and that's all that matters. Siege mentality hasn't got anyone anywhere now has it...

Pearson is a winner, it was clear he was highly disappointed to have come away from that game with nothing... especially after the fantastic effort put in by his players, so he just reacted badly to the first sign of criticism to his team... he got it wrong and apologised, rightly so. I'm sure he wouldn't let this effect the team and we will see the same commitment and effort on Saturday...

When asked about it Carver backed Pearson wholeheartedly... doesn't sound like he's trying to take advantage of it. Plus he'd paid that much attention to it that he got most of his facts wrong anyway.

That is painful to watch. The man is as stubborn as the day is long but he's proven his real side often enough. He doesn't like being backed in to a corner which if we stay in the PL he has to learn to be more responsive to the press etc as it's becoming horrible for our club. We aren't in a position to play mind games like Mourinho and Fergie have done before, we don't want to be detested because our manager can't behave himself with people he has a poor opinion of.

Speak for yourself. None of this bothers me particularly.

Well, that doesn’t account for the mental distractedness that Pearson might feel whilst he should be preparing for Saturday’s game.

Has his mind been 100% focussed on the Newcastle game since Wednesday? I doubt it.

Anyhoo, I take the point. It might actually motivate the players…

17 pages, media overload for calling a journalist an ostrich heaven knows what we'd see if he'd swore at him.

If these so called 'football' journalists focused on doing their job they'd have let it go and talked about the actual football but no they know this will generate more views from a pandering evermore goulash public looking for something to make them feel superior.

The greatest football manager this country has ever seen wouldn't agree with you. Sir Alex Ferguson regularly pulled players out of matches and told them that he was deliberately focusing them on a game 2-3 weeks down the line and they had to prepare accordingly because he needed them on their best for that day. No game is more important than any other, they are all equal and Ferguson recognised that and gave different players time to rest and focus on their next "big game". It's all mind games and brilliant man management.

This thread has really opened my eyes to how fickle some peoples minds are.

According to some of you, Pearson hasn't had time to prepare for the match because he has been 'so busy' in a pre match interview - that he has had to so before any game.

The players are going to lose respect for Nigel because of his antics in the media.

We are going to get relegated because Newcastle will take advantage of this HUGE distraction.

The owners should sack the man, that pulled us out of league one, nearly got us promoted to the prem in the first season, left, they re appointed him, he got us promoted in the '3 year plan' they discussed - all because he called someone an ostrich.

Outrageous!

I'm not sure why you think we need to deflect attention away from the result or the players' performance?

Because we caved in too much during the second half? And the scoreline is somewhat harsh on us.

The hope lasted for 47 minutes.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

The Chelsea game wasn't.

I agree the next 4 games could all be 'the biggest game of the season'

All pure conjecture.

For all we know, he might as well have started prepping up for Newcastle since last weekend.

Pearson is too smart to allow this little thing to get in the way.

He isn't the type of person to focus on the news, he's probably not even read an article regarding the matter.

The players will obviously give him some stick (jokingly) but that's not a bad thing.

This is a story that belongs in the same category as Katie Price getting married, it's for the idiots of the world to drowned themselves in.
