Mark_w Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 I think it's brilliant. Here we have an exchange of words between a manager and the press and within two days, it's grown into some kind of a news phenomenon, beating a plethora of other sports news, even trending more than many other much more newsworthy topics online, be it Twitter or elsewhere (heck, even on here! ). It's brilliant because it deflects attention from our result, the defeat, the players' performance and also sheds a light on modern media, their choice of topics (we may have free press, but don't forget they're all free to choose what to publish also) and their representatives. No matter how prickly you think Pearson reacted, it tells a whole lot more about modern-day journalists and how they tick. Because here we have two guys using the encounter to promote themselves and put them as a person in front of the actual news, ultimately making them the headline. THAT should give people food for thought. I'm not sure why you think we need to deflect attention away from the result or the players' performance?
LcFc_Smiv Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 I'd say that's missing the point somewhat to be honest. I don't care about other people's perception of us - but I do care about us acting with integrity. One has directly affected the other. I think this whole thing has been completely unnecessary and has turned all our press coverage from 'Great run of form' to 'Manager is a ****' - surely we'd rather the players reading about how wonderful they've been playing? Even from the debate on here you must see that it has impacted what was a ridiculously good mood at the club - not saying that isn't still there, but it's definitely been impacted The players don't care what they read, the only reward they will be looking for is 3 points and backing from the fans. I'm sure they find Pearsons antics rather funny and probably have a laugh about with him first thing the following day. Everyone in the club states their backing for Pearson and the type of character he is, they know he's not some tool he makes himself out to be to the media. If worrying that other fans in the premier league don't like us because our manager comes across as a bully who gives a sh*t, barely any club these days has a moral high ground to stand on. Any impact (if any) on the mood will pass when we're celebrating 3 points tomorrow after seeing off Newcastle.
Larry_LCFC Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 This thread still going strong? As strong as an erection in a strip club. Or Pearson on an ostrich farm.
shailen Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 Not sure why this is a huge talking point. I doubt it affects the players here anyway since what Pearson has done in the past has not had a negative impact on the players anyway. I do believe in the siege mentality argument, because there is no way Pearson is not clever enough to know the consequences of his actions. It's a little bit of mind games. Fergie/Mourinho have done it in the past and it's worked for them. Particularly, Jose where I remember Lampard saying he made it out as though everyone hated Chelsea and that inspired them to give that little bit extra to win games. But at the end of the day, it will not define our season.
Mark_w Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 I'm just looking forward to the Ostrich/head in sand goal celebration on Saturday.

Because here we have two guys using the encounter to promote themselves and put them as a person in front of the actual news, ultimately making them the headline. THAT should give people food for thought. Nonsense. Why would we want to deflect attention from such a good performance? We won many plaudits for our performance against one of the very best teams in Europe. A game in which we gave as good as we got for most of the game, and were within 10 minutes of pulling off a draw. Without Pearson’s idiotic press exchanges, what the press would be talking about now is yet another mightly LCFC performance. The press would probably be speaking of Pearson and Mourinho in the same breath. Instead, Pearson is currently Twitter’s ‘village idiot’. People are laughing at him. He’s in memes with David Brent for goodness sake. What on Earth is ‘brilliant’ about that? Newcastle should be shaking in their boots. Instead, they are thinking that they have got a real chance to cash in on the instability within the Leicester camp. This whole incident has harmed our fight against relegation – be in no doubt about that. And also be aware that should we lose on Saturday, there will be lots of people drawing a direct link between Ostrichgate and our defeat.
Monsell1976 Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 The day Nige leaves, some of you ***** on this thread that have bashed him will be crying for him to return. Really ****ing pisses me off how plastic some of the posters here are. He was being bashed for 10 minutes and reacted well. Other people are going around calling him an arrogant twat and some of you are joining in when all the man did was to defend the players he manages. What does Pearson have to do for people not to bleat on like this. When Pearson goes, it will be because he's not achieved what the owners want. He is arrogant and his behaviour is strange this season, I think that's clear to even to the most harden Pearson fan. As much as this was strange behaviour, but something or nothing, you can't seem to accept his out of order, even though the man himself has admitted he's in the wrong, and said sorry
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 Would absolutely love an ostrich based celebration if we score on Saturday. Shame Nuge isn't available he would definitely be up for that.

andreibrad Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 Idiotic Pearson, just put in his place by BBC reporter Pat Murphy... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32543893 Clean the football= start with managers=Pearson out!!! He is a bully, un-educated and rude! Come on on Foxes! A
Finn Claw II Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 I think Pat Murphy comes across as pretty balanced, but as a senior reporter he should be. The question of what critism is particular should have been anserwed better. Pearson has a press officer, he should anticipate these questions and draft a decent answer for Pearson. Pearson is clearly a man with strong principles, but it is fine line between being confrontational in a good way and coming across as a bit arrogant. The press are trying to make this more than it is though

Overlooking a short amount of recovery time and lots of injuries in favour of the manager calling someone an ostrich.
HighPeakFox Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 Pat Murphy comes across as patronising and arrogant.....it's almost as though the press assume their role is important
harrowhorn Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 I thought that was a fantastic performance from Pearson. What was he supposed to say to Murphy's questions? His deadpan response was fantastic, IMO Murphy made himself look a tit. Hoe you stay up, look forward to next year!
Babylon Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 The question of what critism is particular should have been anserwed better. Pearson has a press officer, he should anticipate these questions and draft a decent answer for Pearson. If there were any he's not going to repeat them because he couldn't do so without dragging a players name in to it. Which, clearly he's never going to do.

Murphy got 'schooled' by pearson, he got nowhere near putting Nigel in his place, and he's neither a bully or uneducated, even if that rant was any reason to get rid of anyone what so ever,

Anyway he's apologised Ian baker has accepted the apology and he's moved on so should everyone else.
RobHawk Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 Apologies if this has already been posted, i've not read the whole thread! But this is genius so worth adding on here again even if it a duplicate.
Fox Ulike Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 Yeah I'd imagine there will be a few idiots. Overlooking a short amount of recovery time and lots of injuries in favour of the manager calling someone an ostrich. And maybe the fact that our manager has spent the last couple of days fielding questions about ostriches and bullies rather than preparing his team for the most important game of the season. Don’t you think that Pearson’s focus is not where it should be right now? Plus, as usual you ignore the core of what I’m saying. Do you not think that Newcastle will be given a lift in confidence following this fiasco?
FourtyFour Posted 1 May 2015 Posted 1 May 2015 murphy's quite senior which means the journos have got their 'older brother' to help them out. he comes across as arrogant but, in a way it's justified as pearson has been a little more vicious towards the press than mourinho or van gaal.

Do you not think that Newcastle will be given a lift in confidence following this fiasco? Has he? He's done the normal prematch press conference, that's it. Even still, that's what we've got a coaching team for. No. Why on earth would they be given a lift by what is just a nothing story?

Whereas he would usually be with the team coaching at 2:30pm on a Thursday.
