Mike Oxlong Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 the club think Hopper has a really bright future ahead of him. . Yeah, rumour has it they think the sun shines out of his arse.
Guest MattP Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 My mate goes to the same hairdressers as James Pearson and apparently he went there out of hours to avoid being seen the other week. I doubt many people in Sheffield have a clue who he is even if he has been front page news. He also didn't seem too bothered by the whole event I was told too. He nipped into Mark Jarvis on Saturday, seemed in good spirits. I don't think we are going to be sacking them now, think we would have done so, there is clearly a lot more to the story than we know though, that's all I'm saying.
Flyfox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 As per previous comment, I'd imagine the club are keen to adhere to employment law regarding disciplinary/dismissal. I'm no HR guru, but there may be statutory notice periods factored in to notices being served on staff subject to misconduct, this basically affords them a number of days to raise a defence. Given the relatively high profile nature of this incident, I'm sure the last thing the club needs right now is another employment tribunal further down the line.
Gerard Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Couldn't care less, the owners and staff will decide the best action. Besides i've been involved in 6 orgies since this happened, none of which made the news. I hope your ring piece is recovering well?

What could we possibly not know that would redeem the stuff we do know?
ClaphamFox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 It won't redeem it, but it might explain the lack of disciplinary action so far.
Tielemans63 Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 If either side (player or club) is considering legal action that could drag things out considerably.
Guest MattP Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 What could we possibly not know that would redeem the stuff we do know? I'm not talking about redeeming the behaviour which is clearly abhorrent. But disciplinary procedures can be compromised if more people are involved and/or there is far more to the story than we have seen.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 If the strategy is keep quiet, let it blow over and keep them at the club then it'll be interesting to see what happens when Pearson's contract expires at the end of June. I for one would be disgusted if it were extended given it's justifiable on no level (other than Nigel being his dad).
cc_star Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I cannot believe they're still at the club, especially Hopper. Quite a statement to 50% of the current population & 100% of young 'uns, if they were to be retained in some way. Especially as the club has already said "Our players at every level are expected to behave as representatives and ambassadors for our Football Club, both on official Club duty and in their personal lives" Their statement indicates the outcome, it's abhorrent they've taken this long.
ClaphamFox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 If the club's investigation revealed that the three players had acted completely alone and could therefore easily be made an example of without the risk of them going to the media and implicating others, we would probably have seen action taken by now. The fact that nothing has happened could suggest that things may be bit more complicated than that.
Collo73 Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 A slap on the wrist is all that's needed and a strong message to grow up.. geez some people on here have you never been abit of a lad??! Time to move on

Frank to be Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Well the thread has certainly revealed that some city fans have a surprising tolerance towards racial abuse. More pleasingly the vast majority don't though, and the "lads" are in a minority.

Frank to be Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I reckon you'd find a lot of people just used the racism as an excuse to be outraged at what they did. I think most were legitimately outraged at the racism and pretty displeased by the aggressive misogyny. I haven't seen many, if any poster condemning them purely for having an orgy with prostitutes.
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I think the term 'racial abuse' is a bit strong personally. Use of the slur 'slit-eye' is certainly a bit unsavoury and insensitive but 'racial abuse' makes it sound like a sustained verbal assault delivered by some foaming-at-the-mouth neo-fundie skinheads. I think phrases like 'racial abuse' and 'aggressive misogyny' should be reserved for genuinely hateful and inexcusably discriminatory behaviour, otherwise the terms themselves lose any intrinsic meaning and become almost useless at describing whatever it is that has happened. Are these 3 lads really women-hating racists? I doubt it a lot somehow.
Frank to be Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Based on the video, I don't know how anyone can say Hopper at least is not misogynistic and racist. Lads or not, normal people don't say those things or act in that way. As for the term "slit-eye", it was probably the only racist term Hopper could think of. He delivered it purely because it was racist. He revelled in the racism, enjoyed it. Imagine the players been on tour to Africa, he'd have used the 'n' word. Had that got out, the outrage would have been tenfold. Just imagine rocking up in Africa calling local people 'n'. There would be lynch mobs. "Slit eye" is no better, it was meant with exactly the same intention. Anyway, this thread is long, I'm sure everything that can be said has already been said. Peace
Rincewind Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Didn't Prince Andrew use some 'allegded' racial abuse whilst overseas. I recall many saying then what he said was normal for squaddies and was OK because they were the enemy. Maybe all this has been exagerated and if not in the limelight even at a lesser degree to bigger names the incidents would not have been in the papers. Although posting a video on social media may have brought trouble and possibly indecency charges re the content. It is others saying it was racist not the girls.
Albert Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 They're all getting sacked. Club will announce it once all the legalities have been done. Close the chapter and forget it ever happened
Rich Fox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Think Prince Phillip always addresses people in the far east as slit eyes when he represents the royal family abroad
