Captain... Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 The story: Chelsea footballers may be fabulous with their feet but some of them can barely write. The embarrassing claim was made to the Sunday People as we investigated the sale of a “fake” autographed photo of club captain John Terry to a fan. Terry, 34, called foul after seeing a shot of himself online. He posted to his 1.1 million Instagram followers and the fan: “Where did you receive this from... that’s not my writing or signature? It’s fake and if you paid for it you should ask for your money back. JT.” But when the fan said he had bought it for £9.99 from the club’s store at their Stamford Bridge ground, Terry apparently went quiet. A source said: “It’s a bit embarrassing. John had no idea the picture was from the club shop when he posted his comment.” At the side’s West London stadium we bought pictures of Terry and stars Eden Hazard and Diego Costa, which came with computer-generated autographs and handwriting. A store worker joked the technology was handy as “there is never a player around when you need one”. He added: “Some of them can’t even write properly, they can play football fantastically but their writing is terrible.” Tonight Cheryl d’Silva, whose nephew Clarence bought the picture while visiting the family in London, said: “It’s unbelievable. You’d expect better from Chelsea. Clarence is football mad and Terry is his hero. “He could not believe it when he saw the message. We’ve complained to Chelsea about the autograph but have had nothing back from the club.” A source added: “Fans are told the autographs are made on computers but they could at least get the handwriting right. "There’s no suggestion fans are being hoodwinked as it is clear the players aren’t signing the pictures.” Firstly I don't really get autographs, never did, even as a kid, but if I did want a personalised signed photo I would want it actually signed by the player, I would want those words to come from his very hand, even if he didn't mean them I would want them to at least run through his head while he wrote it. How the fvck can Chelsea charge for computerised official autographs? Especially as it turns out that it isn't even his real signature. On the other side why the fvck you would pay for one of these, you could just print out a signed Jonh Terry Photo off the internet, add your own personalised message and save a tenner. If it is for a present then you are just cheating the recipient, if it is for yourself then seriously, have a word. Even if the photo was a tenner and the printing was free it would make no sense to have some fake computerised message on it, just what is the point. Finally John Terry, what a plum, "Yeah mate, your pictures fake, wheredya geddit from?" "Chelsea club shop" "...." Brilliant, you would think they might have advised the players they were computerising their signatures. Anyway here is my computerised signed John Terry Picture:
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 What kind of service is this, and why the hell would people pay for it? For once I'd say the dumbest thing certainly isn't John Terry. The Club for doing it, but most likely the fan for paying. I could understand someone on eBay selling this kind of garbage but the official club store?
StanSP Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 Definitely not the fan or JT. How can it be JT? How is the the 'plum' here? It's the club's fault for not 'advising' him. It's surely the club - selling something which isn't legit and getting money for it - actually, that doesn't sound so dumb, just exploitative
Sampson Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 Definitely the club shop. Not sure why people are voting John Terry because someone at the club shop tried the cover their fraudulent actions by saying "yeah, but he can't write"? All he did was help uncover the club shop's blatant fraud.

StanSP Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 What's dumb about the club is not telling the players and letting them accidentally make a mug of you So how is that JT's fault? Anyway, Terry is clearly not the dumbest thing here.
The Doctor Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 So how is that JT's fault? Anyway, Terry is clearly not the dumbest thing here. I didn't say it was - you said the club sounded exploitative, not dumb. They are exploitative, but they're dumb for not telling the players or at least copying their real signature and handwriting.
Captain... Posted 15 June 2015 Author Posted 15 June 2015 yeah so I don't get why Terry is an option Firstly why would you tell a young fan that has paid money for an autograph it's fake, let him believe he has the genuine thing, you know it wasn't for genuine concern about the fan he was probably more concerned about his image rights and signature being used without his permission, he deserves his cut of that tenner. Secondly when they explain it's from the club shop and it's computerised, you don't just stay silent that just compounds the dodgy nature of this "autograph" selling, I don't know how they got the autograph, maybe it was on one of those digital writing pads and that's why it looked wrong. Or at least that would be a plausible excuse. Finally he should at least offer him a real one. Personally I think the fan that bought it is the dumbest, I couldn't think of anything more pointless, it pretty much sums up the state of modern commercial football, plastic fans knowingly buying fake autographs from the official shop, add to that social media and John Terry and you have a perfect storm of modern shitness.
Guest ttfn Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 John Terry is the dumbest thing about every story.
Kitchandro Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 The fan is the dumbest for wanting a signed picture of John Terry.
MPH Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 So how is that JT's fault? Anyway, Terry is clearly not the dumbest thing here. For once....

Some just have a vendetta against the bloke. Without getting into any politics, I just wish he was still playing for England.
ozleicester Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 Terry is a knob, Chelsea are cvnts. I have one autograph and only ever had one.. Gordon Banks
sylofox Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 Can't vote as no option agrees with my view. If the fan paid knowing Terry did not do it, it his him by far.

I didn't see last night's match but I heard that there was some defensive lapses and mistakes in the lead-up to Slovenia's first goal. I think if Terry was in the England squad then perhaps there'd be fewer mistakes and England would be even more defensively solid cos let's face it he's probably the best English defender there is right now.

Don't even think it's up for debate. It would also bring the best out of Cahill for obvious reasons who alongside Terry had a great season domestically.
DennisNedry Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 A computerised signature? Completely takes away the whole point of getting one!
Nalis Posted 15 June 2015 Posted 15 June 2015 JT's silence is golden here and offers no help at all. I'm mean, why has he not offered a legit autograph to a young fan? Maybe if the lads mum was a looker he'd take a different view... ...but ultimately its the club shop's fault.
Carl the Llama Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 If the club are advertising that the message and signature are CG, they aren't being stupid. A heartless machine milking money from the fans, but not stupid. The fans who make an object devoid of any soul or meaning whatsoever into a source of income for the club are what's stupid here.
